I tried putting in "Mike" but it was taken.... so i added a space BEFORE the name and it worked so its " Mike". Heh, this'll be fun. So simple.

all of them were in use

Have you tried using a different EA account to reserve your BF2 account ?

The error is worng. It should say "BF2142 Soldier name already in use!!!" and not "BF2 Soldier name already in use!!!"

Try registering the same nick but make a small difference like adding a space before the name.

You get to reserve your in game name (so you can keep your old bf2 name if you want) and you get a free unlock for bf2142 . You may as well do it if you want to keep your name even if your not getting the game you could change your mind and end up buying it and someone else already has your regular name.

p.s. It wont let you have numbers at the beginning of your name so if you have them you ll have to change it I'm stuck with Zulukiller18 now .

No, it say's bf2 username is in use. Not bf2142 name is in use.

Figured it out....someone already registered my name....so much for reserving your name.

it took a while but finally did it. the new name i wanted was taken. seems a bunch of people have had the same problem. guess i'm stuck with deadboy79 again. now i just have to preorder the game and i'll have 2 automatic rank ups when i start playing.

Bascially you need to put a space infront of your BF2142 name or make up another name - the Error message is actually a typo (OP states in forum)?

Well, I've read about it before, but didn't realize how incompetent EA and their customer service was until I wanted to ask about the BF2 vets program.
Wanted to register my name (ChrisFox71) but surprise I couldn't.
I'm very SORRY for the long post but I really want to know if I'm going nuts or these guys are really stupid.

I wrote to EA:
When I filled out the form, it came back (completed) The screen in writing mentioned someone has this name reserved already? Perhaps I was wrong in filling out the form, could you please see if there was a mistake, will the servers be reset (is it not official yet)? The BIG question is will I be able to get my original BF2 name (ChrisFox71) FOR bf2142? Thanks.
Is it perhaps because I am beta testing at the moment?

Battlefield 2142 does have a 14 character limit on player names so some old names that exceed 14 characters can not be used. MY BATTLEFIELD 2 NAME IS CHRISFOX71.
"Enter your Battlefield 2 soldier name and password and reserve it for 2142. You must have an existing EA account to complete this. "
"Make sure to claim your soldier name as soon as possible! All unclaimed names will be made available to anyone as soon as Battlefield 2142 launches."
The web page never mentions PICKING ANOTHER NAME.
THEN CHANGE THE WORDING OF THIS PLEASE.

I wrote back once again. (AND NEVER AGAIN)
ONCE AGAIN, the web page is wrong.
Fine, I'll take my ChrisFox29 name for BF 2142.
The web page now reads "This entitles you to bring your Battlefield 2 soldier name over to Battlefield 2142 before it hits the shelves, making that name unavailable for anyone else to take."
APPARENTLY THAT'S WRONG SOMEONE HAS MY BF2 NAME NOW.
Also the web page reads " You can also choose any new name not already in use for Battlefield 2. "
ONCE AGAIN. WRONG. THE NAME WAS IN USE -CHECK THE GAME RECORDS I'VE BEEN USING IT!!!!!!!
I don't want anyone else missing out on their BF2 name, so please get this right.

Now soldiers, I'm I really nuts? Thank God these guys don't run a hospital or something important.
I'd like feedback guys, and perhaps how I can register with a different EA Account do I have to buy another game? (Which I won't) Although I did get Special Forces, but the same account unfortunately.
