Until then, why don’t you make a backup of your BF2 directory, install this 1.4 so called pre-final patch (it’s not beta, since it doesn’t display it on the screen, like the true beta) and start playing?! No CTD, no crashes, new map, all is there for you to enjoy.
And when the final 1.4 arrives, restore BF2 directory and install the new patch. Easy!
