IMO they would have to be limited to like 200 ft or something, because it shouldn't be just as good as a normal AA placement..

Imagine the hell the choppers would get!

Now not only do they have to worry about JETS, other heli's, AA, and .50 cal, but just like the jets, they have to worry about _ / 32 people with handheld stingers all trying to take you down!

And plus, I don't even see the point of this thread.. as you know damn well this is not going to happen... DICE is too busy with that 2142 BS, and they can't even figure out the most basic of things to patch, but yet, you want them to add in this...? Are you all crazy? You wanna talk about bugs... LOL

Look at it from the groundpounder point of view now, these jets can come in from anywhere and bomb the crap out of you and you have nothing to say about it. At least with this it would go both ways now, they just have to bomb less crowded or smarter areas.

OMFG u read my mind. :yay: this thread consists of replies from pilots who obviously dont want their ability to dominate the game taken away from them. i assume that is why they are putting out IO, because of groundpounders like me who cant go 5 minutes with out getting killed by a helo/plane whores.

Yes. Provided that they get dumbed down to pre 1.2 level.

          we use them in 21cw.

Actually they were dumbed down after 1.2, I dont see how harder to use aircrafts is dumbing them down. Really you tell these pilots they might have to face a challenge and they talk to you like you just killed their dog... Is it really to much to ask to have some airspace which you cant go over without dying? Get some control of the AA from your ground units if its really to hard to evade them. And remember your the one coming to kill us not vice versa why should you get the advantage?

STA crossfire (no matter which patch) has been an awesome thing. With a 375 metre distance, 1 second lock-on time and 1.12 tracking ability, two, just two well placed AA gentlemen with STINGERS can do just about anything. If you want the AA to be 100% effective, you have to cut from somewhere. I have no problem if a portable AA launchers tracker is tracking very well, but I do mind if its range is great enough to cover 1:4th of the map.

Balance first. You want a portable AA unit that can create an advantage in placement and terrain, not to mention, become virtually undetectable. Thats great, by all means. But this should come at a cost.

Which amazes me the most is people like you who think an auto-killer is an ultimate answer. Ive said it once and Ill say it again, bitter groundpounders who havent flown a jet do not make for a good game-balancer.

Think it through, come up with a suggestion that covers all pros and cons, all details, backfires and possibilities of exploitation. Also cover the possibility that it just might become a VERY popular kit.

Is it really to much to ask to have some airspace which you cant go over without dying?
Yes. I believe in second chances. So if Im skilled enough to survive an area, then this ability shouldnt be taken away from me. If I make a mistake in that said area, I deserve to die. But I dont deserve to die just because I "wandered in there". Just as you, as infantry, have a chance to survive jet attacks, I as a pilot should be able to fly and survive STAs.

Range should be balanced with lock time.
              Damage balanced with tracking ability.

Get some control of the AA from your ground units if its really to hard to evade them. And remember your the one coming to kill us not vice versa why should you get the advantage?
Right, so if theres a map like Wake, the JFS pilots shouldnt leave the carrier deck? Shows just how qualified you are to propose changes.

"I want it better, better, me me me!!!" Details please. If you need help with whichever change can be done, I can help you out, in some extent.

Bottomline, if you create a unit with high mobility and advantage in terrain, placement, unpredictability and stealth, you have to compensate that said advantage.

I see what your saying, but if you compare bf1942 to this one you can see why they require a quick finish. They cause a lot more damage than they used to, back when they were better balanced. With the huge added offence there was not a very large decrease in defence, so who really knows what to do, pilots dont want to lose offence or defence.

                  Re: Shoulder Fired Stinger

I am thinking of this from a pilot's prospective. I honestly don't want to totally screw helo and jet pilots! I whole-heartily support this weapon, but for once, I truly feel it needs to be gimped from the very beginning. I advocate a shorter range, long lock time, and weak damage.

Even shortening the flares' load time might be an option. But, we desperately need these in the game. If you want to talk about balance, lets preface that discussion with how unbalanced this game has been for the last 14 months! The air group has had free reign for since the release; only in the last 5-6 have we actually started to have AA that was effective.

I respect that pilots should have some dominance, IRL, the already do. But, IRL, we also have shoulder fired missiles that are 98% effective, (<2% are misfires). So, don't start crying because we want this. I think we need it, but I also feel that we should see some balance with it too!

Bring it on, gimped and all. Because a jet will most likey come and go before a shot can lock and hit. It will take several to finally take one down with the way I am thinking of working it into the game. But with helo's well, they better be ready to run back to base with the tail between the legs, or get faster flares.

The problem is that most people proposing changes only propose them to benefit one side. Yet they a lot of "balance" words in their sentences. If you want to be taken seriously, think it through.

What I could think of right now is to set a 200 metre distance limit to the portable AAs with a 1 second timer and efficiency to get a 100% hit if the shot is shot off with a perfect lock. Granted, jets come and go like a flash, but at least you have a chance against a chopper, and a chopper has a chance against you.

You really have to think about what purpose would the change have? Just to nerf the jets? Whine someone who cares. To beef up flag defense? Speak up.

If you want to make the portable AAs into an offensive weapon to have a go at hunting jets, and make them effective enough to fulfill that said purpose, then you have to boost up jets defenses. Keep in mind that what kills jets, annihilates choppers.

If you want to create a defensive weapon, leave the jets alone, and keep in mind that what kills jets, annihilates choppers.

Bottomline, its really much harder to come up with a good solution, than just a simple idea.

Well if there is no solution Id rather have a crappy jet that people can use if they are so inclined than an overpowered one that ruins entire maps and people line up and tk eachother for. I know people who flew fine in 1.2, they still got a 5-1 ratio which is pretty damn good.

Yes for shoulder mounted AA. But i think it should be like DC where u have to judge when to fire it, not a lock on type like the ground aa.
