hey y'all
i've had a look around the forums and can't see what i want so;
i've just bought the bf2 deluxe version and it's patched up to 1.12 automatically it's been working fine yet i try to play today and everytime a map loads up to exactly 57% it crashes to desktop. no warning no error message WTF?! and so i figure maybe it's patching - in order to get it fully updated to i have to install all the patches or can i just install v1.3 if thats the most recent? sorry if this has been done i'm just confused and don't know anything about patching i just like to play and own people!

You just need the full version of 1.3

Download and install 1.3 full to patch it up to date, but don't be surprised if you still get crashes to desktop (usually happens when you click 'Join Game' on 1.3).

cheers guys BUT WHY?!?! it's the most infuriating thing when it crashes to desktop!! if i got some sort of error i'd understand! does everyone have this problem?!

Think its an issue with the 1.3 patch, atleast it happens to me and my friend.

Strange, i have deluxe edition and its already patched at 1.3 from the get go :s

Just pray that dice don't **** up the incremental patch for 1.4. Otherwise you're in abit of trouble seeing as even if you re-install bf2 you're still with 1.3. I say sue them if incremental doesn't work.

update: - i can now get to 84% then crash to desktop after a lengthy conversation with everyones friends at EA tech support. Tell you what if battlefield 2142 needs anywhere near this amount of work just to frickin play the game then i'll go insane

If you start BF2 in windowed mode as opposed to fullscreen mode, you should be able to see whatever error message pops up. You'll need to alter your desktop shortcut to do so. Right click on the shortcut and in the target box you should see something like this -

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe"

just add this after the last quotation mark with one space in between -

+fullscreen 0

so it should look like this -

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +fullscreen 0

This should at least allow you to see whatever error message pops up underneath the program... otherwise in fullscreen mode it just shuts down the app and doesnt let you see whats wrong. This should give you more direction on where to go from there.

It is possible to edit the registry to allow you to patch downward if you really want to. You just change the entry to say you have v1.00. It could be a problem if it tries to encrypt the CD key when it's already encrypted. You can always just put the unencrypted key into the registry before patching though.

There is nothing an incremental patch can do that a full can't. A full patch works on any lower patch level. That's why it's called "full".

Welcome to BF2. You'll see, it will become natural to you seeing bf2 crash. Now, Im like "OMFG !! I joined, I joined" each time It doesnt crash when I first join a server.

oh well at least ill get to play 2142 before 1.4 comes out be on that till release of full game in oct probably wont play bf2 much after 2142 comes out i luv the game but im just bored with it now after more than a year its getting a little samey
