    Re: Major Framerate issues

How hot is your laptop? Mine used to get really hot and start lagging, normally after about 5min of playing BF2, got a underlaptop cooler and it did the trick.

My laptop gets extremely hot, but i usually keep a fan blowing right on the "hotspot."

As far as checking how many watts my cpu is, i have no idea how to do that?

scan you computer for virus, adware, spyware, malware using AVG free editon, spybot search & destroy & ad-aware.

update your sound drivers, & gfx card drivers, goto MS website make sure u have all upto date drivers.

Try also using the xp performacne tweaks guide. U may be running too many programs clogging up your memory..

Heat can be a problem, but u sually can tell if you pc is overheating my seing artifacts on screen, eg lines straight through screen, textures all messed up, etc etc.

Why is ur laptop getting to hot? Try playing on it in a colder room see f that helps.

              Re: Major Framerate issues

Thank you all for the suggestions. It's not getting "too hot" i don't suppose, but hot yes. I'm 100% positive i have no viruses or adware, and before everytime i try to play i turn off all non-essential processes. As far as the settings i had it at, i was wrong. I had it all on medium with the midlevel resolution, so i tried it with everything set to low, which gave me about a 5 fps performance boost, which is still very lame. I mean, come on, 25fps max? That just doesn't sound right...

Ok, i've kinda had a breakthrough, feel free to explain why this is if you have an answer.

I tried 2 things tonight which in the long run worked excellent. The first thing i tried was reinstalling, i i figured it couldn't hurt to try. After it was done reinstalling i join a single player game to test the fps, still the same, a lousy 15-20. I then set all my settings to low and turned my draw distance down all the way to 50% and Viola, 100+ fps. Not content with playing a game with the settings all down i upped it to medium. I then got a steady fps of about 90, which if you remember is a about a 70fps increase from before. I decided to get risky and set it all to high, and i get about 50-60fps with everything maxed. This is all before i patch it, hopefully when i download the patch, everything doesn't go to hell again. Wish me luck.

Its the latest patches. I used to get 40-80fps with my 6800GT, now with the rig below I get 25-50fps in anything but an open area. When I reinstall the game and I play on an unpatched server I get 90-100fps at all times.
