Dear Colin Clarke (or anyone at DICE).

So I ended up reading all these responses to the BF2 Community from DICE rep. Colin Clarke, and after reading all of these topics being questioned. I must wonder what exactly are they fixing?

I won't post every one I've seen but these really stuck out to me.

Metallicaguitrst (F-35b Vs J-10... Please Fix!): F-35B is practically useless... Some people like myself have gotten used to this, and can still be "somewhat" effective with the jet, but this is just ridiculous. For the most part, if a J-10 gets behind you, you are going down. Unless he is completely new to the game or flying jets, you are pretty much going down.
Couldn't agree more with ya brotha.

Colin Clarke (Updated Answer): So we took a long hard look at this issue in relation to what we could try to do in 1.4. We did some tuning to the J-10. Believe me or not most tuning we did actually made that lil sucker even more lethal (some people may have seen a server named 'J-10 Test' up within the last few weeks). Which brought us to the realization that if we were to do anything drastic to the J-10 it would likley ruin the vehicle unless we spent weeks in review and retuning.
Okay, so... You ended up making it more lethal. Weren't you suppose to numb it down? gg on that one. Now you're saying anything done anyway will ruin the vehicle unless you spent weeks working on it... ok, so what's the problem? Spend the weeks working on it ffs. What have you all been doing for 3+ months?

Colin Clarke: We then reviewed what would be required to adjust the F35. The work and tuning and adjustment that would be required to try and bring the F35 up was roughly equal given the dual function of the F35 engine. I also received a crash course (har har) on hit box construction which helped me realize that this also would not be a simple adjustment and would also require weeks of adjustment and trial-and-error. Long story short - This dynamic will not be changing in 1.4.
Again... Now you can't seem to get the F35 right either? I'm sorry but are you qualified to work on the plane dynamics, and if not, who is? Because you don't seem to know anything about how the jets function. Either way, that's no excuse to not fix either of them.

Eastcoasthandle (We should be able to destory claymores with grenades): I mean come on, if you can see a claymore and have a grenade why can't you destroy them? It makes no sense. If you didn't see the claymore and it kills you so be it. However if the combatant place the claymore in clear sight and it's blocking your path chucking a grenade should solve the problem.
I couldn't agree more on this one as well. I mean, I shouldn't even have to say anything about this one, Eastcoasthandle says it all well for all of us.

Colin Clarke: The canada team looked into adjusting claymores so that they could be destroyed by specific soldier munitions and found the change would be a code change with significant risk. So this change will not be coming through in 1.4.
So to make the claymore blow up from a grenade will have a code change that would what, exactly? To me that's a load of BS. I know it's not hard to do that, and I can't believe you guys would just blow this off so quickly.

Talus (Any change on widescreen support issue?): Is there a chance we may see 16:10 widescreen resolutions officially supported in BF2 in the future?
I think it's just common sense nowadays to have this on a game as popular as BF2.

Colin Clarke: This is something that is on our list but will not be coming for BF2 and is unlikely for 2142. I do not have the intimate details on widescreen for 2142 at this time.
Okay, wtf... seriously... I can understand (i guess) about BF2 not getting but 2142? Are you guys nuts?? Again, what exactly is the problem with having WS support? Surely it must be code, right? That seems to be the most popular response we've heard thus far. Seriously, get it together and give us WS support. It's not cheating and it's not an unfair advantage. It looks rediculous on standard res on a WS moniter.

Adamfool99 (Repair Points): I think the repair points should come more than they do now. It is easy to get heal points and ammo points but it is a pain in the ace to get even 5 repair points in one round. You have to literally do nothing BUT repair to get the Expert Engineer Badge. I think Repair Points should come more often.
    /signed

Colin Clarke: Hi guys, there are not going to be any changes to the current scoring system. While I love the engineer kit, and some of the ideas I have seem posted are pretty entertaining (throwing land mines), any changes to the scoring system at this time would require a full overall evaluation.
Then evaluate it, please. God, I wonder sometimes what you guys really do over there. Everyone and their mom knows engineers need more points for repairs. How in the hell would that change the scoring system that much? Just reduce the repair time by 50%, or even 30% ffs. It's pretty rediculous when a medic gets a point instantly when healing someone or support gaining an ammo point when someone reloads his gun near the ammo pack.

HateKILLL™ (Release Hotfix For Ctd's !!!!!!!!!): By reading a lot of the forums about 1.4 beta and all its problems that it having. I don’t see 1.4 coming anytime soon in the near future so why not just release a hot fix?
Because then they'll need to release a hotfix for the hotfix. Don't you know it's how they operate. Always releasing 2 patches, usually to fix the one 2 days before it.

Colin Clarke: Hey Guys, some players are still reporting join game CTD's (though not yet in beta 2?) and we want to make sure we have completely exterminated this and other stability bugs.

We really appreciate your patience thus far. Though I am guessing that some may have already broken out the [DICE]CKMC voodoo doll...
Okay, this has 2 sides to it. While I appreciate your efforts in fixing this horrible bug (over 3 months now), I can't say that I'm staying on board with DICE/EA. This is something that is expected. I can't pat you on your back and say I'm proud of you because, again, this shouldn't have happened to begin with. So aside from fixing something that shouldn't even exist. What else have you done to even call this a patch?

=50K=MG (Beta 1.4 is out!): Will Infantry Only option be available for ranked servers?
Colin Clarke: Possibly - but we need to figure out which hard code respawn settings to go with and if we are going to keep certain tunings and so on...

We want to rank it but we want to make sure it’s something that can be ranked without a lot of problems suddenly popping up.

Keep in mind that even if I am not posting a lot I am still around.
You make IO Ranked and you will effectively ruin BF2.

From everything that I've read here, and various other complaints, it seems that nothing has really changed. You added IO and have almost fixed the CTD in the beta 1.4s, but what has been implemented?

Nothing above mentioned by some great players have even been thought about. Just quickly dismissed. So as I see it.

    1.4 comes out:

    - No J-10 fix
    - No F35 fix
    - Claymores can't be destroyed
    - Still no Widescreen support (not even for BF2142)
    - A new map: woohoo! (I'm sorry but there are plenty of really good maps to download from great modders but you have done a pretty good job dividing the community so no one will ever play them.
    - Infantry Only Mode: Again, but some other crap that no one asked for. Are you guys making BF2 for DICE employees or for the good paying public community? Because I really haven't seen any good ideas from the public be implemented into the game.

On a final note: I really think you guys should ditch EA. Your games were much better without having you guys answer to them, meet their deadlines, and ultimately ruining such a great game, and more to come. BF2 looked FANTASTIC!, I really mean that. Fuxin AMAZING! I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. But then it came out and I thought, wtf... where is my game?

This version we have is nothing like what this game should have been, and I know you all want money, but you guys would have gotten plenty of cash if you didn't have EA and actually waited to release this game before it was ready. Trust me. Many other companies are doing it. COD 1/2 are awesome, ppl are still playing CSS and CS 1.6. The list goes on. I emplore you to re-evalute the way you guys do your thing and gain back the faith and support of many followers that you have lost, including myself.

    Peace.

    PS:

This isn't just a rant, this is really a sincere attempt at addressing alot of issues the community (myself included) have. I would very much apprecaite some response from either Colin or any other official representitives of DICE and if at all possible; EA.

    Thank you.

Re: Dear Colin Clarke (or anyone at DICE).

    3 questions:

    1) is dice uncapable of fixing the looming gameplay issues that plauge bf2 or will they be fixed eventually?

    2) with these looming gameplay and rank system issues remaining from day one, would revamping the rank/point system really do any more harm to the system than has already done through neglegence of these gameplay issues?

    3) with all these problems still around, do you really think we needed a new game mode and map? if there is another patch, could you possibly not add more content and instead fix the problems?

I said this on the 2142 boards but Ill say it again-
Dice is doing all these changes to make the ranking system better and promote more teamplay but the simple fact is all ranking systems are exploitable, so no matter how hard is it or how much it promotes teamplay, people will learn to abuse it, usually in a way that doesn't promote teamplay, but destroys it.

And most if not all BF2 ranked servers are filled with the lonewolf style of all for yourself style gameplay that completely ruined BF2.

I for one would be happy if the whole ranking system just dissapeared, we didnt need one in BF42 yet people still loved it, they played for *gasp* fun of the game, and not some stupid medal, or unlock

Ever think that EA is keeping DICE on such a tight schedule/deadline that they can't even begin to touch the things they want to and make them 100% right? I believe this is some of the reason why bf2 has been deemed a "broken" product, DICE makes a great product it's just the fact they have unrealistic deadlines and products/ideas get rushed.

        Just an observation.

this is why i think it would be benificial to revamp the ranked system and limit server options on them to the extent that its always a fair experience no matter what ranked server you go2. we should be playing unranked if we want to play a less than fair game. hell we should be playing unranked in general, who even does that?

There doing a fine job. Alot of things people want changed others dont, so in the long run its a lose lose for them. So they can just do less work by not listening to you whiny buggers :)

I completely agree with this. I think we should be pissed off at EA. EA is getting most of the $$$ while DICE is putting in the work. Maybe that's why they don't care anymore. I mean, at least DICE interacts with the community somewhat...I have never seen someone from EA do that.

I would love to just sit down for 15 minutes and have a conversation with Colin Clarke and find out what is really going on with EA and DICE.

you guys know that after 1.4 patching for bf2 will still go on!! so we might still have a chance at the j10 unbalance still being solved because of the 1.4 ctd being top priorty they do not have enough time to fix this, they are concentrating on the major problems

I honestly don't know. I was under the impression since dice did other battlefield games that they just got grandfathered, for lack of better words, into bf2.

tbqh i wouldnt consider CTD's a major issue (cos i dont get em :p ).. where as planes being a big part of the gameplay on certain maps get out matched by the other side,

Have you guys heard about FrontLines:Fuel of War...made by the creators of DesertCombat. (http://www.frontlineswar.com/ <--Community Site)

You would be amazed on how active Frank Delise (Lead DC Dev) is on their forums.

Of course on the other hand there is a [DICE]demize99 sitting in IRC right now, so I am not really sure.

P.S. [ht].Ken where in colorado do you live?

The original DC team was incorporated by Dice then Dice was incorporated somehow into EA's family of businesses. This gave Dice access to more technology than they would have had as a struggling independent development house. Long story short, the original DC guys are new known as Koas Studios, a division of another publishing house similar to EA (THQ has incorporated them) and they are making Frontlines: Fuel Of War

It's like a record company, if you have an album and your goal is to sell a million copies of it. You aren't going to stick with the indy record company that only has a 4 track and a garage/studio. You are going to go with the more established companies that have more professional equipment and you stand a chance of making a better product.
