    Sudden inexplicable performance decrease

    hello all,

I'll make a long story short here and any help will be greatly appreciated. A while ago i reformatted my comp and had BF running flawlessly, the best it ever had. If standing alone im getting 85-100fps with all but 3 settings on high. If in combat or in vehicles im getting 50-80 which is perfectly acceptable until yesterday. I got home from work and decided to do some regular maintenance. i defragged, ran ad aware, deleted cache files from BF2 mod folder and rebooted. Upon entering the game I noticed that it looked ok still, but definitely different, so i check the fps and im seeing 40-50 when alone and right around a constant 30 in combat. I had literally played on the good numbers hours earlier so im fairly confused as to why anything I did would cause a change like this.

Oh, and one more thing I did was download and use xfire to play with a friend. Anyway, while still playable this is very annoying because the high frames are the sole reason I spent 1500 to make this rig. Plz help!!!

    My setup:

    Radeon x800xl
    3.4ghz P4
    2 gigs kingston ddr
    win xp sp2
intel mobo and asus psu........thats all that should matter

Try recording your FPS using fraps because there might be a problem with ingame build FPS reader and download the latest drivers for ur video card and lower ur settings (shadows, lightning or AA).

next time your PC is running flawlessly, dont F with it... thats my best suggestion. If I were you, I would do a rollback to day before yesterday with Windows System Restore, try BF2 again, and if it works, leave it the bloody hell alone.

          Good Advice

Try to install new drivers from Omega Drivers. They seem to work really well with that card. If you are using the AGP card, you might never hit 100FPS during "busy" scenes.

I have learned that BF2 is the ultimate LoveHate relationship, its such a damn good game but its coding is absolutely abhorent. I have a a64 3800+ Orleans, 2 gigs of pqi turbo DDR2 667,256 eVGA 7900 GT KO and I average around 45-50 FPS with settings on high mostly at 1024x768. I was expecting more around 70FPS average, so your frames are actually pretty damn good. Also, I think the ingame FPS counter is flawed because it told me I was getting between 30-40 but then I used fraps and it told me I was averaging about 50-55. Anyway, dont sweat it.

              check your video options
bf2 resets them all the time
(for me, adds dynamic shadows when I set them to off)
