I just got an email from Gamestop saying that if you preorder with them you automatically get free unlocks and you start at a higher rank than everyone else. This is totoally lame and I can't believe that EA/Dice is doing it, everyone should start at the same level.

Rank up is one thing... if they give you the points for the rank its another...

Could possibly be a rank up but you still start with 0 points so it would still take the same time to get the next rank as someone with out the "rank up".

ah... what ever... I am guessing that a good portion of the "unlocks" will be available with something like 50-100 hours of game time. At least they should be, for the casual gamer.

Of course this type of deal really depends on how balanced the unlock system is.

From what I have read seems like there will be a very high chance that they will be greatly unbalanced. Kids that can play 10 hours a day will have a much larger equipement/abilities advantage then a casual gamer (more then just practice time/skill)

EA is moving this FPS to more like a MMRPG with each release it looks like... The lifeless kiddies always have the advantage in those games as well...

So who did not pre-order BF2? Allot of people did, and allot of people will pre-order BF2142,....and so they get a "Rank UP" big whup it does not make you a better player? Anyhow with so many cry baby namby-pambies whining about a game they spent $50 on a year ago and how there going to "Protest" (Ooooo..) and not buy BF2142 what do you care anyway about a pre-order "rank up" whatever that means??

Anyways there will never be an equal rank threshhold, as even now 4 star generals play with privates..

Rank really means nothing it means you played longer or more then the other person that's it.

On the issue of unlocks. I really don't like the idea of unlocks. They have better sights, firepower, acessories, etc. I do like some of the BF2 unlocks but would rather start out with them just so everyone can have them at once instead of beating up people with M16s with your G36E only because of the fact you've been playing longer.

Yes, and preordering merely is just making you play it before others, aka longer. And for me it is even better because then the people can actually tell others that earn their rank up, the pros and cons of certain unlocks, thus I for one will have a better overview and not be in the fog of decision making on what to spend my next unlock.
