ok i just posted this in another thread but i think it it worth starting its own thread.


Hello everyone who have had this crash to desktop when trying to join game issue.I found a solution that worked for me hopefully it will work for you also. Simply rename the BF2 folder in My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles named 0001 , to something other than that like 0002 ,0003 , 0004 ect just make sure you rename the folder named 0001 (for some reason the account when in that folder '0001' seems to have crash to destop issues,but renaming it to '0002' ect seems to fix it.) I found this solution because my girlfriends profile '0001' was having crash to destop problems almost everytime she tryed to join a game , while my profile '0002' was having no problems whatever. First I tryed deleting her profile and redoing her settings and still was getting the crash to destop with her account but when i renamed her profile folder '0003' and then tryed to play no more crash to destops , so I hope this helps , please tell me if it helps any of you , i think ea must have some buggy code attached to the 0001 profile that is causing this issue.

you screw up my BF2!!!! you screw up omg what happen is I try went black then show error #00327761_invild code I was like WTF you screw up any reason to fix it?

I dont really understand what your trying to ask me ??? I simply stated renaming the profile '0001' to '0002' or '0003' ect helped get rid of my crash to desktop issue.

Sounds like he tried the mentioned fix, screwed it up somehow, and is now getting errors when loading BF2.

We really DO need a more accurate description of what is going on by punkboy.

I didnt really understand what punkboy was saying either , if he somehow renamed the 0001 folder wrong he could just change it back to 0001 , and also he could just delete the profile. I dont see how he could mess up changing a folders name its not that difficult. I know that changing the folders name too '0003' worked for me ('0001' might need to be changed to '0002' , '0003' , '0004, ect depending on how many diffrent profiles you have) just make sure you change the '0001' profile name to '0002' or '0003' or '0004' , ect (which will depend on how many diffrent profiles you have) and you should see improvement with the crash to desktop when joining a game . Its the 0001 profile that i have found causes problems and renaming it works for me.

I can't confirm this fixes anything (as I don't have the issue) but I can confirm it doesn't break my BF2 either.

In my BF2 folder the 0001 profile is the default proflie and has never been used, so don't see how renaming/deleting will help anything.

Best way to get around the CTD when clicking on join game is to don't, just make sure that you have Auto-Ready enabled and wait the 20 seconds for it to join you automatically (hitting Esc is also supposed to work).

I will also try this when I play some BF2 later tonight and post back here with any findings.

I CTDd twice yesterday and twice today when I haven't in a long time...so I'm for trying something at this point.

Yes, I can confirm that it CTDs when you touch nothing. Just superstition that clicking would somehow crash it.

However, i think the thread starter has a point. When I use anything other than my first account, i have never gotten a CTD.

So renaming 0001 to 0002 may make your first account appear like a second account.
