Spotting is probably the best thing a commander can do, so do it a lot.

No, don't do it a lot. A lot is too much and it can be very annoying and distracting. Use the UAV and leave the spotting for enemy that are sneaking away from the main fray or taking flags but no uav available. :)

#1. If you do a scan, the red dots that you see, your team-mates will NOT see.

It depends on your definition of "a lot." I think if your guys are defending a flag with 10 guys rushing it then a UAV is the way to go. If you a couple of guys going for a flag and the UAV is up, then spotting is the way to go. Just randomly and repeadetly right-clicking on the map over and over can be too much, especially on smaller maps.

I try my best to spot armor for jets and choppers too. The bottom line is, spotting is very important, and in my opinion, is not done enough. I especially love the ignorant commanders who let the enemy attack their uncaps and assets without spotting them to the people there trying to defend the assets. These people should be mutinied.

Some commander yesterday spotted every enemy on the map the entire game ... it was impossible to think ...

I think its best to just spot things like armor, apc's, cars, jets and heli's ... i only really spot infantry if they are behind our lines going for back flags ...

They can see a spot that is a spot but not a fuzzy spot. They can't see a spot that doesn't show up as a spot at all. If you spot a spot and a spot shows up it's spotted.

It SHOULD work like this but just as the other poster said, it does not actually work like this. I command a lot and also have experimented with this using TeamSpeak. It is true that a commander can spot a Satellite Scan fuzzy red dot and hear "Enemy Infantry spotted" or "Enemy Armor Spotted" but unless that target turns into a distinct flashing red dot or distinct flashing red tank/APC, on your map, IT DOES NOT SHOW up on your team's mini-maps and therefore is USELESS. The commander MUST wait for the fuzzy red dots to disappear or I've found I can start spotting them even as they're fading away.

Also, I can confirm that the commander can do "blind spots" anywhere on the map. Simply right click and select "Spot". If an enemy is nearby, they will flash on your map and on your team's mini-maps. If not, you'll get the question mark. This is particularly useful if you have a squad going into capture a CP and your UAV & satellite scan aren't currently available.

Finally, I want to echo the comment about being smart about spotting. It is extremely annoying for commanders to spam out enemy spots on targets that are meaningless to the team. By meaningless I mean their presence at their location is no immediate threat to the team, and/or they are in a location that cannot be engaged by any of your team mates in the approximately 6 seconds the "spot" will be active on the mini-map.

What happens with me and those that I have worked with to check this out is that unless I see the hard spot on my radar, they wont see it.

If anyone really has a question on this, its an easy thing to check out. Just try it. Run a scan and immediatly spot three of the scanned enemies and ask your troops if they can see the spotted on their radar.

Blind spotting is a good idea if there is a UAV request in an area but you have already committed the UAV elsewhere or you feel the need for it elsewhere is greater. Give the requestor a couple of blind spots in his area. If they are red "?" question marks, it means he's clear.

Oft times when I have a guy asking for UAV in an unimportant area (almost off the map, no flags in area) as opposed to waste UAV for a single hunt, I'll give him a blind spot.

I will sometimes run a blind spot on secured flags just to see if I've missed an enemy infiltrator too.

Keep the spots to a minimum and keep them usefull. Spot less on a public server with people who may not be listening anyway. Spot more with your buddies who actually are using you as the commander to spot. Communicate with the squad leaders with the talk all SL key or the specifically selected SL private key and find out what they want from you.

I've been on TS to find out when exactly others can see my spots. It's the solid dot that is telltale of what you are reporting to the world.

You do realize there is a second, to a second and a half delay when talking on TS.

Yup, when they talk sometimes I hear myself in the background. A spot lasts about 7 to 10 seconds though. That and they can hear me say "Enemy Infantry Spotted", they just can't see any red dots from that. (after a scan that is)

Communicate with the squad leaders with the talk all SL key or the specifically selected SL private key and find out what they want from you.

For those that may not be aware, whenever the Commander uses the "V" key, they are talking to all squad leaders. To talk only to a specific squad, click on the desired squad to highlight it, then use the "B" key to talk instead of the "V" key.
