how to "spot" when commander?

Hey Guys,

I am more of a ground pounder and enjoy close quarters combat the majority of the time I play bf2. I recently applied to be commander and actually, by some miracle, recieved the position. Well my question is how do you spot an enemy when being commander? I tried to access the main radio and spot like I usually do and was unable to bring the main radio options up (with commander window open). I searched the forum and googled it and figured I'd ask you bf2 savages :) . Thanks....

Right click on the enemy and select "spot"

Tip: if you are zoomed all the way out... the spot area is pretty big so you can randomly spot soldiers in the area... Just don't spam it.

Spotting is probably the best thing a commander can do, so do it a lot. Some will get annoyed with the radio spam but it helps to know where the enemy are. This is one reason why, IMO, that you can't fight and command effectively at the same time. Some commanders thing they can run a UAV then jump in a tank and go shoot someone but what they should be doing is spotting.

right click, right click and more right click when you're commanding

right click on the map, right click on a squad, press shift to select multiple squads and right click.

Use the UAV / Radar and right click on red dots to distingush between infantry and hardware

And if anyone complains you're radio spamming tell em you're a a commander ie you're meant to be making a lot of noise, now listen to my orders you ignorant fool

You can scan and see a bunch of enemy red dots in one go. Your team does not see these. If you try to spot while these red dots are still visible to you, your team cannot see what you are spotting The only spots they see are the ones that show up as solid red dots when you do a spot. Oh, and if you find a solid white dot, thats the enemy commander. Everyone comes up as enemy infantry except vehicles and snipers. They come up as vehicle name or Enemy Sniper.

If I have soldiers capping a flag, I may run a couple of random spots around them. The question marks will let them know that in their immediate area they are clear, OR it will show a red dot of an enemy coming to stop the cap.

The big scan has it's uses even though you can't show the spots to your guys. It lets you see possible troop movements to unprotected flags and also opportunities for artillery.

UAV scans show up on all your sides radar. Good for confrontation areas.

REALLY???????????????????? I do that all the time thinking I am actually spotting. If not, I need to stop.

Oh, and if you find a solid white dot, thats the enemy commander.

That I knew. I love telling my guys that I'm spotting the commander. There's usually a mad rush to kill him.

Most don't. When you spot a fuzzy red, you'll notice it doesn't go solid. Even while it is fading, no solid. Then when it's gone, Solid. Thats when they can see it too. I've been on TS to find out when exactly others can see my spots. It's the solid dot that is telltale of what you are reporting to the world.

The average commander does a big scan then does everyone the favor of spotting all the guys in one go. If EA wanted that, they would have made the scan show up on everyones radar. This is a preventative step (I believe) to that.

Sometimes if I see the white dot, and I'm close, I go in for the knife. I feel it only fitting for one commander to knife the other If its not in my area, I'll point out the commander as enemy commander to both squad leaders and to all on Team Speak if I'm on a TS server.

One tip: when youre spotting, spot enemies that will help your team. (Tank headed for your shiny new spawn point, enemy sniper, etc.) dont spot enemies just hanging around in the rear most spawn unless you have some covert ops going on over there.

Have you confirmed this? I have heard people say both ways but have not tested it myself.

If you scan and spot, your team does not see the enemies on their maps. You have to wait for the red dots (fuzzy dots) to disappear then you can spot them. I usually zoom all the way out and try to remember the essential bad guys, then spot right away. Or if there are a bunch grouped together (not on UAV), I will zoom in and track them and spot once the Scan has cleared. There's a guide in the tips and trick forum that explains everything.

:edit:I got a PM about my post, so I wanted to clarify what I said:

You have to wait for the dot to disappear completely before you can spot it for your team. Otherwise they just get the message, but no dot on their minimap.

That's why I suggest zooming all the way in to track enemies. You can see them, and spot them once the Scan (all the red dots) have disappeared. Or you can remember where all the dots are, and spot them from the 1x, or 2x zoom. That way you can spot more enemies, but with less accuracy. Sometimes you'll get the same guy over and over even though you know there are several in the same spot.

Confirmed both in Vanilla BF2 and SF BF2 after having many "Enemy Infantry Spotted" or "Enemy APC Spotted" from commanders not visually show up on my radar. I always thought what you spotted was spotted. I used TS and did experiments with the people on TS many times to see what they could and could not see of my spots.

They can see a spot that is a spot but not a fuzzy spot. They can't see a spot that doesn't show up as a spot at all. If you spot a spot and a spot shows up it's spotted.

No!

Here it is simple okay.

#1. If you do a scan, the red dots that you see, your team-mates will NOT see.

#2. If you do a spot (while the scan is running) your team-mates WILL see the spot.

#3. Any other time that you do a spot, your team-mates will see it. So spot all the time, to relevant location.

#1. When playing on Karkand (more than 32 players) and you are commander. In the beggniing of the round, if your are MEC, make sure to spot any people that get behind the hotel. If a flag is capped behind the hotel, its gameover for the mec.
