ZBoard/mouse for chopper flying/tank/apc/jeep/ground/boat, Saitek EVO for planes.

I just can't get used to flying the helos with the joystick...

I just picked up this joystick yesterday and played for about 1 hour last night (just practicing).

FAR easier to fly with a joystick than the mousepad. I just need to fine tune settings and practice a bit.

One question though:

This joystick allows you to "twist it", which can be kind of screwy when you are flying.

Do people use this feature?
How do you configure your in-game settings for aircraft, specifically for steer left/right and roll left/right?

I'm looking at a few other threads as well.

If you have problems with the twist, its because your joystick is placed correctly on the table. grab the stick and pick the whole stick up and put your hand in a comfy spot and then put the stick down.

this way you don't twist it accidentally.

I've said it once and I'll say it again: "mother**** a joystick." Is it really that much better? I go up against badass pilots all the time with joysticks and hold my own. I'm not saying I'm maverick or anything, but I spent some time tweaking my settings, and have a decent system and mouse to be able to fly good with the mouse. Its really not the trigonometry u people make it out to be. But then again we wouldn't be Americans if we weren't always in search of the shortcut.

To this date, I have never been bested by a pilot with a mouse. Ive been killed by them by surprise, or because of my own mistakes, and Ive seen mouse pilots to good stuff, better than most JS pilots, but even if they kill me once, they usually end up killed by me many, many times. Youre right, RIGHT NOW, the difference between a mouse and a JS, in efficiency is a bit smaller, because the missiles do most of the work. But back in the day, I saw mouse pilots just bomb, and almost never dogfight.

In a word: Yes.

Any half decent pilot using a joystick will be able to out perform someone using a mouse. There are maneuvers that just aren't possible using a mouse. I don't care how sweet you think you have it configured, a joystick is better.

I'm not even sure I know what you're talking about here. Using a joystick has nothing to do with it being a shortcut. If anything, using a mouse for all your controls is more of a shortcut than using a joystick.

It's about what's better and what allows the pilot to operate the most effectively.

Step 2 : don't give any attention to settings etc

Step 3 : practice

Step 4 : practice

Step 5 : practice

...

Step 78 : own others

this guy is nutz, iv had mine for way longer then a month and let me tell you that I havnt noticed it to be any different now from when I bought it really! works great he just prolly takes care of his stuff poorly!

Couldn't help but notice some talk about Z Boards. Thats a pretty noobish keyboard in my opinion. If its so much trouble to figure out how to play bf2 with a regular keyboard, then FPS isn't your style.
On another note, I have watched people fly with arrow keys instead of the mouse, and it seems like better control is achieved this way. It might be worth learning since I don't plan on purchasing a joystick anytime soon (or do I....)

True!! I had a logitech wireless mouse and keyboard and my mouse blew up! Thew battteries inside blew up and melted the chip inside the mouse. Cheap. But the keyboard is fine.
