Re: People, please keep an eye on your minimap

The winning commander gets 2x the average points -tk's

The commander can get gold, or @ least silver, or bronze if he DOESN'T tk

    Those tk's cost you medals

I use the arty a little more sparingly these days, if we are ahead, I only drop arty in the enemy rear

In my 400 hrs. commanding I have had less than 10 mutiny votes, & every day ppl REQUEST me to command

Maybe the problem is your team m8's are anonymous, I however play w/ up to a dozen ppl in a TS channel, when I do arty tk someone, even if it is their fault, & they APOLOGIZE TO ME, I feel bad

But you guys are grown-ups, you can do what ever you wish

I just hate to see the "they were stupid, so they deserved to die" attitude from commanders, in my opinion a commander is supposed to watch over, guide, & do his best to protect, the expert players, the average players, & the noobs"

Be a "good sheperd" over your flock

Serialbutcher, Im your superior officer here.

One thing that is certain 100%, in BF2 there are MORONS, IDIOTS, *******ES and IGNORANT POINTWHORES. Now that I got that out of my system, turn the system around...

Dont use artillery as offensive weapon. If you do, open your eyes and get that tunnel vision off man! Always have arty as the last resort to defend a flag that is attacked by hostiles and no friendlies are nearby. ALWAYS assume that if friendlies are nearby, they will rush to collect arty shells.

The way I use arty is, I attack flags which my troops will reach in more than 15 seconds of time. I drop arty at flags that are about to be hit by hostiles.

I treat jets as my artillery more than my shells, the fun part is, they get the teamkills, I dont.

I also do not hesitate to drop artillery on my own team if Im absolutely sure that they will lose the fight. Losing a flag is more important to me, as a commander than losing 2 guys that fight a losing fight.

Then again, I dont command like your average commander, yet people like me when I do command.

Higher rank just means you play more, which doesn't necessarily equal better skill in every case. I guarantee most of the stat padders are awful fps gamers.
High rank doesn't mean that a particular individual is a better fps gamer, that is true, however it can be said that on average it is true, but you don't have to be a highly skilled fps gamer to know the strategy of the game

I believe age, maturity, experience, intelligence, & real life military experience are the largest factors in what makes a good commander

Playing commander is like playing chess, & the more personal experience you have @ every role, in every situation on the map, the better you know how the "pieces" move, & the less likely you are to arty your own "pieces"

It is also plus when an experienced commander has fps skills to defend the main base

I agree with you on all points except real life military experience. I bet you'd be the same commander you are w/o it. This isn't a war sim, and is pretty far from realistic. Strategy in this game is nothing more than obvious logic and being able to pay attention to what's going on, with a few tricks thrown in.

There really isn't any brainstorming that goes on to be a good commander, it's more or less common sense, which surprisingly, alot of people lack. I have no military experience, yet am an above average fps gamer and pretty good commander when I feel like doing it (which I don't enjoy, so I usually don't).

SERIALBUTCHER, ever seen the movie "The Last Castle" or "The Castle"? Robert Redford as lead actor.

Talks about a general who is put to prison. Anyway, theres a quote which 100%, literally describes whats going on in BF2 right now.

Its something along these lines, I may be mistaken- "If you play chess with one and the same opponent, his first three moves will always be the same."

As a jet pilot in BF2, armor movement is ALWAYS the same. You can literally assign a macro that takes off, takes a course and bombs a target area and you get a kill, in the first 20-60 seconds. If youre commanding, its advised to keep that in mind. I myself almost NEVER issue orders, but when I have a competent squad at my command, I try to set them at defense, to repel that "enemies" first move with their armor, at a certain flag, and THEN move on in for the offensive. Provided I have a good squad, I succeed in keeping my flags, destroying enemy armor and moving in for a successful offense.

Real life military basic training (boot camp) is the best leadership, & teamwork training "bar none", & transforms individuals far more than any other institiution known

While this may be the case in "more" effective persuasion in real life, what matters in Battlefield 2 the most is logical thinking, respect, immersion and GREAT VOICE, which of course all is binded into one big "commincation" bag. Thing is, when youre playing with regulars, you can use the commander seat as its intended. Full VOIP, full communcation in all channels in all directions. If youre playing with random people, teamchat is the only way to go, and you can only act as an "Intelligence office", as in, you provide the information, and hope to god the team does something with it.

Needless to say, the best, by far the best gaming experience has been commanding 4-6 cooperative squads. My god, that is awesome. I had a bomber, 2 man squad, a chopper squad, and 2 full squads all 4 on VOIP with 100% communication, aswell as 2 other cooperative squads. Only then you can start really using your own full experience and knowledge gathered from everywhere (boot camp for example) and use it on the field.

If youre a good commander or a squadleader, youll notice it when people start talking back, and call you "boss".

Sorry, never saw that movie, I will have to put it on my list

I also give few orders, I concentrate on providing intel, & support

9/10 of my orders are to assign squad leaders flags to capture, splitting them up makes them harder to arty, & spreads the enemies defenses

I also have the advantage of always having 1, or 2 squads in TS that actually follow orders

My "peeps" call me "Serial", "Butcher", or "Pimp"

Usually when I command there will be 6-12 high ranking officers in TS, & half will be in vehicles, & the other half "ground pounding", & others not in TS gladly follow them

Believe it or not, I sometimes enjoy the luxury of watching the majority of my team working in cooperation under my command, & we almost never lose

Forced teamkills from arty is one way for the mutineers to garner enough votes to have you removed. Inexperienced players will blindly follow their SL or any group. Especially if the SL or enough of the group is a much higher rank. That means you only have to have a few mutineers to sway the masses after the arty tks. Since arty is not instantaneous, the inexperienced ones that have never commanded think that the tk was due to you as the commander being unskilled and unworthy.

That is true, however my "home server" (Moders) doesn't even have mutiny votes selected in the server options, but there is always an admin there, & as a rule you can only command 2 rounds on, & 2 rounds off

Besides, I play there so much, even the guys that aren't in TS know me, & my reputation

When ever I create a squad, it fills up instantly

Most ppls complaints about how they are treated by other players in BF2 is because they don't have a "home"
