ok i have a gforce 6600 pci-e oc is this a good card i bought it and dunno if it is it runs well but bf2 is not that smooth but then again its bf2 so you kno lol i run on high should i run on igh with this and i have 2gb of ram sorry about off topic

i wouldnt have thought that could run on highest settings too well. especially with a constant high framerate. use fraps and see if it can keep a framerate higher than 60 constantly.
my choice for that would probably be 1024x768 low - medium settings.

well this isnt my rig its my dads but heres wat i know it has,6800gtx?(pci-e one)2 gigs of ram and pentium D processor,its sweet i can run everything high at the higest resolution and 4 AA,but the only problem is he doesnt have any sound devices so battlefiled 2 is quiet!bad when getting locked on to.

Probably the easiest and cheapest way to get sounds on your dad's machine is to buy a USB headset with a DSP.

Plantronics has one for $50.00


Just plug it in, and I believe this one loads XP drivers, no additional software or asking your dad to install any PCI soundcards.

You can unplug it when your done, or let him use it.

There are cheaper ones but the sound won't be as good.

You think he needs an upgrade? I still have AGP.

Attention to detail slick, he's only temporarily playing on his Dad's PC. His permanent PC at home is PCI only. So yea he needs an upgrade from PCI to either AGP or PCIe.

7600gt's are around $160-170 x1600xt's are around $130 both are pci-e but both could play bf2 on high if you had just decent hardware to back it up. amd 64 bit processors took a huge price cut $88 for a amd 64 3500, socket 939 pci-e boards are under 100 bucks, and 2gb of value ram is all you need. 500-600 dollar upgrade is what it would cost for high graphics if your reusing the parts you can. the time to upgrade is now :) just don't go overkill on the videocard dx10 is right around the corner, start saving what you can for a dx10 card when they come out.

A friend of mine just upgraded his machine. He was running on an old Dell with an FX5600. 2 weeks ago he built his own PC based on my recommendations and he cannot BELIEVE what a different game it is.

He's always saying things like .. that sign wasn't there. This used to be a dirt road. I never saw THAT before...

He is blown away. He got a 7600GT.

I have never seen high graphics. I run most on medium with no dynamic light/shadows and no AA. View distance at 100%. My card is a Radeon 9600XT 256MB. I prefer no shadows as you can see people better.

wel im over here at my dads house and he has a XPS 600 with 2 gigs of ram and a nvidia 6800,high graphics are simply mmazing,wish my dad would give me his rig:p as u know i have a 5500 fx at my house and its a huge setback than from wat im playing here.

i was hping peoeple could give me suggestions for a possibly new mobo and other parts.

I have a amd 64 3000 and 2gigs of ram. To give it some more life before I upgrade mother board I got a Nvidia 7800gs! This definitely seems to be the best card if you still have an agp motherboard. Once i got it the first game I played was FEAR and it handled the highest settings at looks amazing! BF2 looks pretty good on it too ... at least my system will have some more life until I need to spend somer real money on it ...

look at the asrock 939-dual, for £35.

you probably wont be able to fit another board in your case though, dell use custom sized ones.

I just upgraded to what I have below (look at sig) and I have to agree. It makes playing more fun when you don't have to deal with lag and stuttering and the occasional lockup or two.
A decent pci-e setup doesn't cost you an arm and a leg anymore.

$1,500 (US Dollars) just got my Cyberpower PC. Athlon 64 3800, 2GB Corsair PC6400 Ram, FX7900 GT 512KB vid card. This after I've been using a Gateway hunk 'o junk, FX5500 like the OP, and 1 GB, all on low. Now, everything is maxxed out. ALL settings. Runs smooth like glass. FFS the streets have lines on them! Who knew!?!!

so yea - you can get a real good rig that'll run this on max settings for low, low money. And it's still upgradeable to the nth degree. No SLI, room for 4 more gigs, and a whole laundry list of better processors.
