I think your problem is you're all scared that you'll have no more infantry to kill because they will all be in the IO servers. If i'm right, then you're selfish and arrogant.
Your right!!!!! People like planewhore need infantry to boost their stats even higher, So without planes, tanks and etc it will ruin the game for them. Self-centered thinking of the people who don't like the IO mode. Like you said play on servers without it, ITS THAT SIMPLE........

Welcome to BFWWI. Support nade spamming, medics throwing bags everywhere, and snipers galore...and the battle line remaining exactly where it was 30 min. ago. Without jeeps, etc., the strategy of maneuver is gone, since a halfway decent team can create a firing line/spam grenades at choke points (aka Karkand), while the commander can spot any stragglers to be hunted down and killed before they even neutralize a flag.

EA spent alot of time tweaking the vehicles to achieve a proper balance to a map, then they decide to remove them altogether? USMC should always win Sharqi in IO: defend hotel and city entrance with snipers and support, spot the straggler. No one will take the time to walk around to TV. Game Over. Sounds like fun.

haha - install 1.4 beta2 and try it before giving opinions. it is true, that not all maps are balanced properly for IO mode [i think that is going to change with introduction of 16p maps int rotation - these are balanced pretty well] but most of them are - and maps like wake/dalian or zetar are REALY fun in IO mode, no mater how weird it sounds.

btw. support are less popular then engys in IO mode.. it is all i have to say aobut nade spamming

Re: In praise of Infantry Only

Wow, i leave the thread for a few hours and its three pages full already! Great to have so many responses, nice to hear some people think like i do, and some constructive criticism, particularly from Harmor. The vehicle lite option is an excellent idea.

I think the only serious answer i can provide to people like Planewhore and Wolfgang is: if you dont like it, play on another server. Easy to do right? There seem to be many people who agree with you, so im sure the bulk of servers wont run it anyway, so why worry? Yet you seem to be worrying enough for all of us.

Why cant you just let a portion of the battlefield players enjoy themselves in the way they see fit? Why do you have to enforce your idea of what is right on us? Cant you just let it lie, and be happy in the knowledge that you will still be able to have fun on your choice of battlefield servers and we'll now be able to have fun on ours?

Dont get me wrong i respect your right to an opinion, we've all got opinions, and the great thing about battlefield is there are so many opinions. But you dont need to act like a judge who can tell us what we can and cant do. You made the specific point planewhore that its us forcing our opinion/idea on you, but cant you see you're doing that exact thing? And we wont be forcing it on you because YOU WONT EVEN HAVE TO PLAY IT.

Also the paranoid parrallels with CS are just ridiculous, how is it going to be ANYTHING like CS exactly? Obviously a few people here dont like CS and thats fine, i;ve never even played it myself, but battlefield is not and will not be anything like CS just by removing the vehicles.

To be honest I'm kinda sad we had to argue about this, because all i intended this to be was a little note of thanks to the guys at DICE just to let em know theres a few of us here who like the idea.

Not like in vanilla BF2. But I will say tactics and strategy are not necessary in IO. Because in IO you simply move forward, shoot at players and capture poits. If you die it's not a big deal because with 30 other medics running with you you'll most likely be revived.

Ah snipers.. figures you'd point out one of the most useless classes in the game, a class that is far outclassed by the emdic. To answer your question I dodge sniper bullets all the time. Moving, proning, jumping and sprinting I never die to snipers. I can't remember the last time I died to any of the sniper rifles since on the rare event they do hit me with a round they never end up killing me and I throw down a pack and I'm back to full health in seconds (claymores are another matter).

Well of course. The point I was making is that a low scoring player who is having difficulty playing the game "as is" is the type of player that has whined and bitched for a no vehicles - no artillery mode

I've got lots of profiles but I'm playing on a new profile now which is http://bf2s.com/player/74315412/. Mostly vehicles on that profile at the moment but now that I've unlocked my beloved G36E again I'm getting a lot more medic time.

Yes and it I felt it was a pathetic mode and extremely easy. Scoring 130+ points a round as a medic isn't too far a stretch for IO mode with a couple other medics in tow.

I've got a few reasons for disliking IO in any form. To put it to a real world analogy the people who want IO mode are smokers and the people who enjoy vanilla BF2 are the non-smokers. So we've got this favorite little resturant we always go to that's strictly smoke-free but all these smokers are standing outside bitching that they want to come in but they want to smoke!

Now the annoying part of this is right next door and across the street their are hundreds of other resturants that welcome smokers that'll suit them just fine. The resturant owners offer a compromise saying "Ok fine how about we make an identical copy of this resturant right next door strictly for smokers" (IO mode unranked) but even though it's an identical experience and preserves the enviorment for the non-smokers.. they throw it right back in their faces. So finally the resturant owners gives in and says "Ok smokers we're tired of you bitching we'll let you come in and smoke". Only problem is the resturant owners (DICE) gave little consideration to all the thousands and thousands of happy non-smokers who dine on a regular basis. It's a pretty ridiculous scenario because that's the thing that made this resturant so special in the first place is it was one of the only smoke free resturants in the world (or a game with vehicles and potent commanders).

So the resturant owners spend time and money upgrading to a smoker friendly resturant. The time they spent could've been spent much better on upgrading the menu or the furnishings to make the resturant more enjoyable for the people who were perfectly happy with it. Now because of all the smoke our clothing starts to stink, we have to breath in all that second hand smoke if we want to stay in our favorite resturant and the regular crowd of people start to leave. To make matters even more annoying it turns out many of these smokers who claimed to only want to eat in the resturant only wanted to get inside the resturant just to blow smoke in the non-smokers faces. These issues can be attributed to the real concerns of things like redistribution of our favorite servers, corruption of the ranked servers statistics with easier points, and splitting the community forcing players to leave.

The issues are numerous but the fact remains that absolutely no good reason exists to make IO mode ranked. I'd be perfectly happy with an unranked IO mode because that way the crybabies who want an easier way to get statistics would be screwed but the players who really honestly do enjoy and want that easier type of game mode just for entertainment can have it. And if their is one thing that I cannot stand it is when crybabies get their way.

My only hope is that the majority, that being the unspoken voices in the crowd, do in fact agree with PW and myself, because I'd hate to see the BF franchise get turned into just your average blah FPS because everyone wanted vehicles removed. I'm hoping there are hordes of people out there who bought BF2 and enjoy it for what it is, not what it isn't. I'm hoping future BF installments are modeled after vanilla BF2 and BF1942 rather than a watered-down unbalanced IO mode.

But nobody forced you to buy the game, the game which had vehicles included in it and was mentioned on the box and is one of the mentioned game features. You bought it knowing full well what's included in it, so why would you want those things removed? That's like buying Gran Turismo then asking them to take out all the race cars. :p

Okay, so if you've never played it, then how will you know what it's like, and therefore how will you know how BF IO will compare to it?

I can hit tanks treads about 99% of the time, I can hit helicopters about 90% of the time. It doesnt mean I suck because I wanna try infantry only for a little while, sometimes fighting things that take shot after shot to kill, and can turn around and kill you instantly, jump out at the last moment avoiding the death, or running 100mph in the other direction to heal is not my idea of fun.

Really theres no "adapting" you can do, a super skilled AT guy still has to leave himself open giving even an average driver enough time to counter, the only sure way to not leave yourself open was jumping and shooting over walls which they nerfed in 1.2.

Actually you can still strafe behind cover while your AT rocket is in-flight, so long as you don't move the mouse when you're strafing the rocket will still fly where you originally shot it. So you can just peek your head out from the side of the building, pop off a shot (just make sure you don't n00b rocket yourself against a wall :p ) then strafe back while it's enroute before the tank driver has time to find you.

It really depends on the situation, against campers its basically impossible to pull that off. If they just come to cap a flag or something then its not as hard. So in a spot like karkand it would be nice to have infantry only. And maps with jets it will be awsome to have, very cool indeed.

I don't think IO will be a big succes in BF2.. Why? Because the engine is not made for it, simple as that..

The BF2 engine is mainly made for vehicles, not infantry.. The way you move, are in contact with the map, the way the guns shoot, the netcode, the hitdetection, infantry-fighting in BF2 just feels like a bad version of Counterstrike or Rainbow Six.. BF2 always has been a good mix of everything, the total battlefield, that's it's strenght, that's why it's a succes and so popular.. If you take away the vehicles etc, you take away the best part, and bassicly take out the balance of the overall game.. All that's left is (like I said) a bad version of games like Counterstrike or Rainbow Six etc..

So if you don't like vehicles but want IO instead go try those other games I mentioned, they are much better team-based IO games then BF2 IO will ever be..

                              IMHO..

I really can't see what your problem with IO mode is PW and others. You claim you don't play for stats or care about stats but its obvious you do or you wouldn't care about IO mode and it being ranked.

When it comes down to it you are worried that a player playing on an IO server will score higher than you on average. What I think and from experience playing IO mode will happen is the scores will be more even across the board. You won't have a tank whore with 2x or 3x everyone elses score, therefore they won't score as high as that because the average score will be higher because there aren't any armour whores. It doesn't mean that everyone will be getting 200+ points per round.

I really can't see what all the fuss is about. Its just another game mode, it mixes the game up a bit, it gives players another option to play. As far as I can tell its win win.
