Funny story, I ran in to one of the posters here who is a big advocate of IO mode on one of my favorite 64 player city maps servers. And how shall I put this... this high ranking player (who shall rename nameless) wasn't doing all that well and was at near the bottom of the scoreboard every round I played with him. Purely to satisfy my curiosity I was keeping an eye on what was killing him (on Sharqi) and I noticed he kept dying to artillery, vehicles and the helicopters. This little observation further reinforces my opinion that the players who want IO mode are shall we say rather careless and as such have difficulty dealing with vehicles. Maybe he was just having a bad round. I can only imagine how badly he'd be doing on a map packed with vehicles like Gulf of Oman. I'm starting to understand the type of player that wants IO mode (aka easy mode).

I on the other hand was snagging the 1st or 2nd spot almost every round as a medic (on his same team) and I died approximately zero times over our three rounds to the helicopters, APC, tanks or artillery. Difference between me and this other player I assume is that I put a lot more thought and strategy in to my movement patterns and methods of attack which reduces my vulnerability to the heavy vehicles and makes me nearly immune to artillery (aside from the rare unlucky artillery I run right in to).
So basically, someone who wants to play IO (easy mode) is a bad player?

Give me a mother effing break.

Me-thinks you would be ripped to shreds without the aid of a jet. In fact, some people might even say that lacing a flag area with cannon fire or dropping 500 pounders is 'easy mode'. I play both infantry and jets, and surviving on the ground is 20 times more difficult then staying alive in the air.

    100 times if you're piloting a J10.

Have you actually tried playing IO in 1.40 BETA 2? Playing on any other map other than Karkand, Sharqi, Mastuur is dumb. Everyone is a Medic/Support/Sniper with a few Assault. Nade spam everywhere!!! Squads of 6 medics with G36E attacking ya. No way to catch someone with a vehicle if they get ahead of ya. Running 70% of the time (especially since there is no squad hopping).

The game was designed with vehicles...this isn't CS:Source. What they should had done instead is the following:

      1. 'Vehicle-lite' ranked map option:
      • Replace Tank/APC spawns with Heavy Jeeps
      • Replace AA vehicle spawns with Light Jeeps
      • Remove Jets
      • Replace Littlebird and Attack Helicopter spawns with Transport Helicopters

      2. 'Vehicle-neutered' ranked map option:
Same as above but transport weapon's removed.

      3. Also they should add 'Supply-line' ranked map option (you can only take flags in a certain order - the flag available to take would be highlighted in your HUD like a wounded soldier, except semi-transparent grey)

ALL maps of ALL sizes and ALL kits will be playable.

Hey, good news! I've just heard they are allowing jets in IO, due to popular demand. No other vehicles, thou, because jets already are the ultimate challenge.
And there's a game play change, too: medics are able to revive while flying!
Oh, yes, just a single pass over them and they are ready to go!
It's time to wake up, now… and not on Wake Island.

I think what Planewhore and the other players like us out there are wondering is why are so many people enthralled with the IO option, when the main premise of the game is to fight on a battlefield with a mix of planes, tanks, jeeps, helicopters, and infantry?

This describes Counterstrike, not any game in the battlefield series.

"It would be nice to not have any tanks or planes" seem to be a common response to the people who are requesting or are in favor of an IO option. If you didn't want armor/jets involved in the game, THEN WHY DID YOU BUY THE GAME IN THE FIRST PLACE?!?!

Um, no, you won't get your stats reset for playing on an unranked server (although you could probably still get PB banned for hacking/cheating if it's a PB server). How/why would they? They aren't allowed to make RANKED servers with global unlocks 1, but unranked should be just fine.

And that 'challenge' exists in vanilla BF2 in addition to the challenge of avoiding/dealing with vehicles. There won't be any more challenges in IO than there are in vBF2, only the ones that already exist minus quite a few.

                  1) Spawn at a different base, unless:
                  2) You have no other bases and your team sucks so the vehicles are immaterial - you'd still be getting your heads handed to you whether there are vehicles or not

Actually thanks for proving an excellent point (you're not even close to right, BTW, but by all means continue to pat yourself on the back because of it nonetheless). PW has been saying all along that people playing IO means fewer people playing the regular servers which will in turn create in imbalance of people on the battlefield in the regular servers (too many people wanting to be in vehicles, not enough people to ground-pound). People, mostly IO supporters, keep saying PW is being overdramatic and it's only a worst-case scenario issue, but your post would indicate otherwise. So now if everyone moves over to IO, that means, among other things, BF as we know it will end here with BF2, and any further installments in the series will cease to be true 'BattleField', but instead just your average hum-drum CS-clone FPS because nobody wants vehicles anymore. If that's the way you guys would like BF to turn out, then I, like Shepherd, must question why in the world you bought a BF game in the first place.

is so easy to get in a plane, helo, tank or vehicle and kill. with IO servers you will see how hard is to get kills. i think the only wants that complian about these settings are those that use the vehicles all the time. I used to play AF and tanks all the time until my friend took me to one of those servers and I even got me one . Ill tell you. i never had that much fun. you actually need skills to get some kills and the commander actually commands. you should try it sometimes you are going to have alot of fun like me.

trust me. there are more than 1400 servers to choose from

As opposed to, say, an infantry weapon system that uses a random cone of fire to determine whether you get a hit or not? And (looking at another thread here) half the time the ironsights aren't actually positioned where the bullet will hit? Yeah, tons of skill needed there.

I would LOVE to see Infantry Only ins BF2. Inf is the only reason i bought this game and boy was I dissapointed when I experienced it.

But they also have to fix the fuken insta-prone. Its getting ridiculous- people with pistols, mgs, ATs jump around corners insta-proning, thats the reason I left BF2, INF sucks balls in this game atm.

I know this is too much to ask but I would love it of they made an option for "arcade gameplay" and "semi-realistic gameplay"-more sprint, less health, realistically accurate guns etc.

                          Wolfgang,

You're missing the point. The whole idea of IO is for the ground pounders who like to play in tight squads. What's so wrong with that? If you don't like playing on foot, don't play the bloody server.

Personally, I favor armor over infantry- but that's my opinion. However, I play with lots of guys who enjoy playing in small infantry squads instead of playing armor. Playing with IO enabled allows the infantry to fight an 'even' battle without the worry of getting laced with an APC cannon.

                          What's so wrong with that?

                          Big time.

If you're implying it takes more skill to kill with armor than it does with a rifle, you've gone off the deep end. Don't get me wrong, it takes mad skill to use armor well, but a dedicated ground pounder has a tougher time staying alive then someone sitting in a vehicle.

how dramatic. bf2 gonna die.. its dying! oh noes!

yes, bf2 is not immortal, and it is going to die sooner or later. but not because of IO mode. i can name many reasons to stop playing bf2 [crashes/hackers/bfroe/tedious gameplay/bad gameplay accidents/boredom/other games etc] but IO mode if anything is going to give something new to attract new players, some of them are going to play IO, most of them is going to play vbf2.

you are realy concerned about your points only. and targets to shoot at. i also like murdering infantry with my tank. and i know that my scores are going to be lower when i join half-full server - because there is less cannonfodder and more threats to me.

whatever you 'leet' guys say, infantry is weaker than vechicles, it has MUCH shorter life span, and in most cases cant do **** to a vechicle - even run away from them. whein in tank im not afraid of AT guys, specops or infantryman with grenades - i mostly die to mines and other armour. and it is not because at guys are weak in skill, no, it is because they are not adequate for their job form the point of kits strenght. after first hit they are dead 90-95% times. and relying on a 'teamwork' we all know does not exist because is not promoted in any way [contrary to IO mode, when a lone wolf is dead no matter how good he is] is a cheap and hipocrite excues PW and his followers love to use.

spare us your cries. whene there is large part of community that want to play something different, dont try to be smart and point them to the cs:s, because we can do the same to you - you go play vbf2, some of us will play bf2:io. and, oh my, each of us should be happy playing what HE likes. if you are unhappy because i play something i like, then.. i dont effing care.

because this DOES NOT AFFECT YOUR GAMEPLAY IN ANY WAY [other than stats :) which we know are 'teh important'. arent they? these shiny gold stars?]

Armour is only successful when infantry lets it be. Infantry holds ALL the power over armour. They're more mobile, smaller to hit, have guided rockets, can climb ladders, go inside buildings, behind hills. Armour only dominates stupid infantry - you know...the kind that gets spawnkilled at the Hotel in Karkand and rather than spawning somewhere else and/or spawning as AT, respawns at the Hotel as a medic or sniper, expecting the tank to have magically disppeared. That kind of infantry gets raped by a tank and for good reason. Then again, infantry that stupid deserves it and would have gotten raped by someone with an M16 just as easily.

If you mean a tank that faces off against an AT trooper in the middle of the swamp in Zatar Wetlands wins all the time, then I hope to **** in your mess kit he does, because again, that's a stupid infantryman. When I'm on foot, I get killed a lot more by other infantry than I do armour, even on maps like Oman or Kubra, simply because I can go where armour cannot, and I can see them much more easily than they can see me. If you mean it's easier to kill in armour than it is with a rifle on a basic 'point at the enemy and shoot' level, then no, I'd say they're dead even. Infantry doesn't have the protective coating of metal armour does nor the powerful splash-damage cannon, but that doesn't mean he's outclassed - it means he has to use what advantages he does have over the armour to beat it (as I mentioned before, mobility, etc.). Not to mention armour lights up like a Christmas tree in the target painter of a jet, can show up from acres away in an attack heli, has AT mines and TV missiles to contend with, sneaky C4ing spec ops, AT rockets from buildingtops and such, while a single foot soldier is more diminuative and therefore harder to see (and by default, hit), so it's not like it's an invincible machine.

Armour only truly has a one-to-one advantage over a stupid, or unprepared, infantryman. Smart foot soldiers can either take out or evade armour simply because they don't go zerging the closest flag and leaping into the enemy frontline.

Really? That's news to me. Why don't you quote the place in my posts where I said anything about my points. Go ahead, I'll wait...

whein in tank im not afraid of AT guys, specops or infantryman with grenades - i mostly die to mines and other armour. and it is not because at guys are weak in skill, no, it is because they are not adequate for their job form the point of kits strenght. after first hit they are dead 90-95% times.
Again, you're playing against stupid infantry. Plain and simple. One single tank almost never kills me more than once, if even that, unless I'm totally out matched (as in, the base is swarming with enemies and I've got infantry coming after me, or another tank/APC, etc.) or I do something stupid. One on one, a single AT trooper vs. a single tank is a fair fight. Believe me, I play AT a lot and just one single tank by himself is not a problem unless I'm running down the middle of the street with no cover in which case I deserve to die. If you kill the AT trooper that shot you 95% of the time after he fires his first rocket, then news flash - he's not a skilled AT trooper, despite what you may think or tell yourself.

Actually if EA were smart, they would capitalise on this by making IO an entirely separate game, in which they could revamp the hit detection model, change the accuracy for the guns, rebalance the classes (and eliminate a few of them such as AT or Engineer) so medic isn't the only thing you'll see. Then they wouldn't have to split the fanbase of one game, and instead they could make two distinct fanbases that wouldn't be at odds with one another like they've done now. But oh well.
