rare breed indeed my friends, but its even harder to get a decent pilot out there. i have so many bad experience, most pilots fly too low, go straight to the flag and just hoovers there. I spot enemy heli like 10 times, nothing, he's determined to cap the flag and baam tv rocket comes in. no wonder there are so many soloist, which btw is a great feature not smth to be nerfed. every clan WANTS someone capable of soloing and acutally making some damage.

Piloting a chopper and operating the chaingun/TVG requires lotsa skill... Beeing a newbie at both I should know :-)
But again beein a neewbie isn't the same as beeing a fool...
I had a FEW hardcore pilots showing me a trick or two, helping me understand the techniques of gunnery. Combined with reading some tutorials here and there, helped me improve my skill, not that I'm perfect - By far!

I would say good Pilots & Gunners are of a rare breed... It takes time and skill to master... I haven't even begun to fly the chopper yet, jets the same...

I always seem to get the opposite, I am a great gunner that needs a pilot that can hold the chopper steady for 2 seconds while I line up a shot. My experience is getting paired with the drunken sailor who seems to control the heli with his toes and is missle crazy. I am spotting tanks and such and of course they never fly back over so I can take them out. Most flights usually end with us crashing into a tree near a flag....

I'm a fairly good pilot and yesterday for the first time in the past 6 months i had a gunner who did now how to react. We flew the complete roundtime without even dying once and raped the **** out of the enemy. He had like 140 kills =) Damn i enjoyed that ride.

Too bad this is very rare. I always tell crap gunners to go and read a tutorial or if they really suck i wait very long releasing flares when locked upon and tell him to get out as if we are being shot down the next instant. Most of them get scared and jump out :)) After that making a quick roll and flares release and fetch a better gunner or simply go solo.

There should be an integrated army college just like America's army, which you have to finish before the game lets you take place in a chopper. That would be a nice feature ( maybe in the next patch??) dreaming along.... sigh..

i consider myself an above average ah pilot and gunner both, however i dont know if it's lag or what but some days i cant hit anything with the tv missle other days i cant miss...

Same here. Some days, I can take down enemy helos consistently, and ground targets are cake. Other days, I'll fire a TVM at a tank that's barely crawling along, and somehow it will (just barely) miss! Frustrating. And it makes me feel like an idiot when I finally am able to get into the gunner seat with a decent pilot.

it takes me a few shots to warm up too. sometimes id miss the obvious targets like a sitting turret on the carrier! lol. i seem to do it every so often, especially when it counts. then again, i dont have a problem blasting the enemy atck helo's out of the sky... go figure eh?

ps. i had the sweetest tv shot the other day. i spotted an enemy chopper and i went to shoot it as my pilot aimed me but because i was so excited i dropped the aimer down too low and clicked and shot my missile towards the ground where the chopper was not... clicking frantically trying to go up, i basically did a barrol-role with the missile, trying to turn it towards the chopper where i last remembered it and get it up high. the beauty of it was that, almost empty, i nailed that guy! i wish that that game was recorded... best moment yet! lol

Not a bad gunner myself but some days I cant hit crap.
As for the flying, well I like to sit back, keep it steady and let my gunner put a TV into anything red. Then theres dys when your gunner doesnt know his crosshair from his arsehole. If I have one of these I put it down on the carrier or airfield any surley enough, someone will come along with an M95 and I have a new gunner.
Comms are a must, if some one jumps in with me, I scan the squad list and join theres.
I'll admit, after a very frausting day I hovered on the out of bounds area with the nose out but me in. after 10 seconds I needed a new gunner and I was lucky to get a good one, we top scored for the next 6 rounds.

I consider myself to be pretty good as a gunner, but I'm only decent as a pilot. If I'm sitting at the helipad waiting to get in the copter and I end up as a pilot, I'll fly over 100m, ask the guy if he's a better pilot, then switch.
