Let me put it to you this way. If you've played the Grand Theft Auto series on the console, like Vice City and San Andreas, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised how easy it is to fly using a gamepad, as it is as easy as it was with these two games. I recommend the Logitech 963325-0403. It's almost exactly like a PS2 gamepad, including force feedback, as well as the buttons that are activated by pressing down the joysticks.

Two caveats.
One, you're most likely going to have to fiddle with your controls manually, meaning opening the controls file and entering some of the gamepad functions that way, as BF2 like to reserve controls that aren't there.
Two, after flying a chopper or jet, I've noticed that when I return to infantry, my view shifts ever so slightly. You only have to bump the stick upward to get the stick to read as a nuetral position again.

Ever play MTA? You always come across people in TS who whine about how hard it is to fly the hydra, when in actual fact it's piss easy and about 400 times easier to fly than any BF2 jet.

I use PS2 joypad, works find and very handy.

I have a microsoft sidewinder from like 2000 and it doesnt work with BF2. If I could find it maybe there is a driver I need for it or something to get ti to work properly. BF2 doesnt even recognize it when I press the buttons on it.

I got my old joystick working, dont know why it didnt work on previous patches but it makes it alot funner to play on big maps now!
