    Gamepad or Joystick?

I need to start flying better. Would you suggest a joystick or a gamepad? I had an XBOX and using the controller to fly was so easy. In BF Vietnam I used a joystick to try and fly and it was hard as hell to fly helicopters.

Let me put it to you this way. If you've played the Grand Theft Auto series on the console, like Vice City and San Andreas, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised how easy it is to fly using a gamepad, as it is as easy as it was with these two games. I recommend the Logitech 963325-0403. It's almost exactly like a PS2 gamepad, including force feedback, as well as the buttons that are activated by pressing down the joysticks.

        Two caveats.
One, you're most likely going to have to fiddle with your controls manually, meaning opening the controls file and entering some of the gamepad functions that way, as BF2 like to reserve controls that aren't there.
Two, after flying a chopper or jet, I've noticed that when I return to infantry, my view shifts ever so slightly. You only have to bump the stick upward to get the stick to read as a nuetral position again.

        Hope that helps. Good luck.

I would say a joystick. I use one for flying a plane but use the keyboard for the chopper.

              mouse / keyboard

i switched my yaw with my roll so when i move my mouse left and right the jet yaws left and right rather than rolling. with this method i can take any joystick pilot on and still i dont have to fumble around when bailing.

I used a Playstation gamepad with a USB adaptor all through DC.
Once BF2 came out I got a Logitech Freedom cordless 2.4 flight stick.
I noticed right away how much better the flight stick was.
                  WAY more accurate.

Makes me wish I could go back and have this flight stick for my DC days big time.

Gamepad with a good analog stick and lots of easily usable buttons. People who havent flown games with a gamepad, or in BF2 using a mouse or a keyboard will never understand why.

Reason is simple- reaction time. Ever wondered why its so hard to use machine guns on some pilots, who can evade but cant track? They dont use a joystick. With a gamepad/keyboard/mouse, you get immediate reaction, while it takes (a little, but still longer) time to swing that joystick around.

Gamepad is just like a joystick, but you control your jet way faster than with a stick.

I use mouse + keyboard for everything. Joysticks seem kind of expensive, and if I was to buy one I'd want a very good one.

I'd say Joysticks, if your only going to get this for BF2 I recommend a cheapy one. Presuming that your not always in a jet or helicopter.
