UHJK never even crossed my mind, thanks to enlightening me i think ill probably try that tonight.

As for me for the moment I use WASD although I still use the arrow keys for delta force and a few other games.

evilzucchini do you think you could tell me a basic setup of the keys you use.

I would. . . but it ALL dependant on the number of buttons you have on your mouse.

I have 8 buttons on my mouse. . .I pretty much put everything there that I need to use in the heat of battle. Main weapon, spot, comm rose, 2ndary weapon, fire, ironsights, squad talk.

Under my thumb I have, right-win sprint, right-alt crouch, space jump (I can also hit this with my pinky so I can do sprint jumps no problem).

I keep prone right under where is comfortable for my pinky (happens to be 'v,' Although, if you do prone jumping, this is not a great place for it).

Y = shockpaddle
I = pistol
o = enter/exit
L = medpack
; = parachute
, = knife
m = talk (commander talk)
g,f = switch seats or camera views
c = zoom minimap
x = bring up map

I pretty much have everything I need right around my finger tips. I can switch to anything and everything with a single button push without moving my hand.

My set up totally kicks ***.

Except that the current setup I have is perfectly fine for me. There isn't a button I need that I can't reach, so why bother changing something unnecessarily? You know, KISS, if it ain't broke don't fix it, etc.

I don't mean to be arrogant (okay, maybe I do :)) but if you are using the arrow keys you have to move your fingers off of them to do certain things.

You have to move your hand, while my hand does not move, I just do a quick finger press.

Believe me, I have been playing FPS since wolfenstein. I have tried a million different setups and using the arrow keys puts you at a distinct disadvantage.

k, arrow keys unless you're left handed and put the mouse to the left of your keyboard is for remedial kids, that are too fussy and remedial that they need to have little pictures on their keys to tell them what direction they go. it's for *** remedial P.O.S's

I use

space is backwards
mouse 2 is forwards
S is jump
A and D same as normal
left shift is run
left ctrl is crouch
Z is prone
X and left mouse fire
middle mouse scroll button zoom when pressed
W is main weapon 3
Left alt is knife
F is pistol
E main radio
T enter exit

This would be hard to convert to. I teach people this way and the people who start this way are happy and find aswd just as strange as this setup will seem to most people.
this works well with a split keyboard but the non splittters tend to use a diff key for crouch

for all you crazies who still use arrows; doesnt it feel weird having your mouse hand right next to your other hand? That would really annoy me...

Well, you could move your keyboard to the left so you won't get that problem :)
I prefer the arrow keys because you have some space left (for resting some fingers :) ) and the chance that you push a wrong button is very minimal.. The distance between the arrow keys and my weapon keys (Insert, Delete etc) and the other keys (ctrl/right shift/keypads) is optimal for me and I use it since Wolfenstein came out so it's a sort of automatism now.. :)

wow i jsut did the extreme. xbox 360 controllers can work on computers when installing a patch for it. u said it. i use the controller for infantry movement etc

Wow, so you use the xbox controller for everything.... how do u aim at people? especially when they are jumping all around the place...... :cry:

mouse 3 (pressing the scroll wheel) for knife
mouse 4 (under thumb) for prone
mouse 5 (also under thumb) for parachute
mouse 6 (middle thumb button) for pistol
mouse 7 (button under scrollwheel) for main weapon

odd setup :hmm: do u have one of those mouses that have alot of buttons on them?

I'm left handed and use my AA setup to play. I, j, k, l for movement. Space for jump, - for crouch and right shift for sprint. I have 4 weapons on my mouse. Mwheel up rifle, mwheel down pistol etc..

I seem to have no problems at all, pulled off 16 consecutive hours with no pain lol

Jump: right ctrl
Crouch: "."
Prone: "/"
Reload: "shift"

For jets I use joy and for helo's I use WASD

If anyone uses arrow keys, here is the ultimate setup for arrow keys. I have tried severl different configurations and nothing beats this:

Arrow keys to move.
KP_INS = Reload
Ctrl = Crouch
Mouse 2 Prone
Mouse 3 - Aim (sec fire)
Map your guns to the num-padkeys. (so you can quickly choose the gun u want).
Shift = Jump

I use WASD however when flying helicopter.

If you use ARROW KEYS, you are more prone to back damage as well.

WASD makes you play in a more natural position. While using the arrow keys, will have your body turned to the right, as your left hand reaches over to the right side of keyboard.

Only solution is to move your keyboard all the way to the left, so that your arrow keys will be where your WASD keys normally will be. This way your arms are both straight forward, and you wont develop back pains after long hours of gaming.

Always thought people used the arrows more.

I use the arrows, not because I like them better, but because I have been using the arrows for movement ever since 1999. (Delta Force :p )

no, like when im going left and want to roll is it possible to press z and roll while im still going, cuz my guy just stops and my thumb is on space etc.
