Re: Anti tank
you know that SRAW or the MEC anti tank weapon is far more powerful in real life than in bf2
the weapon would usually be fired at somehwere around half a mile from the target (usually armour) and if the missile makes contact with the target the tank would be destroyed in one hit
but it would also take more time to reload and would usually have 2-3 people as an anti tank crew
bring back one hit in rear of tank = kill from BF 1942

Gee maybe the part of your rant that wentmade me think you didn't like the AT guys being able to disregard the 17m safe distance. But I cannot accept that an AT unit can lie under the rear or side of an APC launch the AT rocket into the APC destroying it immediately, and yet survive!
And I agreed with you AGES ago that the weight the guy carries is a lot, but it also isn't 120Kg. I also said that this is where the "3 or more" guys you first spoke about comes in as well The AT guy in BF2 carries the equivalent to 3 people's worth of anti tank missiles, but here is the kicker, HE NEEDS TO TO KILL THE LIGHTEST ARMOURED VEHICLE IN THE GAME.
The Eryx and the SRAW would turn all the APC's into scrap metal with one shot, and disable (if not destroy outright) allthe MBT's as well.
I'd be quite happy with only 2 missiles if it was guarenteed to kill the tanks with one missile each.
But they've upped the protection the one man killing machines, oh sorry, Tanks and APC's enjoy, so why not up the ammount these guys can carryas well.

AT is one of the hardest if not the hardest kit to play in the game. AT doesn't need any nerfing, tank drivers need to quit crying that the infantry they want to kill actually has a ranged defense against them. It is already difficult for a individual guy to take out a tank, it does not need to be harder.
Let me point out that the tank has a laser accurate MG, a cannon, and a .50 MG if there is a "co-pilot". The AT guy has a laser guided rocket that can take half the health off the tank at best. The tank, well let's just say the AT guy can bend over and kiss his butt goodbye if any of those guns are pointed at him. In other words you guys that say AT needs nerfing are pathetic.

Actually 4 to 1 k/d ratio in armour is good if you are always seeking to, & destroying the enemy armour for your team, if however you are using the tank for a mobile armoured sniping box you suck @ any k/d ratioOriginally posted by blue_pigletNah, you don't want realistic. You only need a part of it from which you gain some advantage to survive more easily in armour. And you 4/1 KDR along with you big time in armour told me the reason you need these advantage. Yes the Eryx weighs in at 12.5Kg, you are right on that one, but can you see a thermal immager anywhere in the game? I can't. Chop 3.5kg's off that weight then. Oh what? That's a game play sacrifice? Oh ok. Leave it on.
5x9kg = 45kg for the US
5x12.5kg=62.5kg for the MEC and China. (How the MEC and China got a French missile system.....)
Add in the DAO-12 at 4.2Kg empty,( only slightly heavier than the MP5) throw in the 2Kg pistol, a couple of rounds of 12 guage and you still haven't even hit 70kg, and you are now saying that PASGT rated body armour will weigh another 40KG? WTF? What BDU's do YOU wear?
Even a PASGT-V with the over vest doesn't weigh more than 25lbs, again thats only 11Kg.
Still a hell of a long way from 110kg even.
I do happily agree it's a lot of wight, but claiming 120kg's off the bat was wrong.
I didn't "conveniently forget" that the SRAW was the only weapon in the game any more than you forgot the ERYX wasn't the only weapon in the game either.
Another thing you "conveniently" forgot is the ability of the SRAW and the ERYX to both blow the crap out of any MBT on the field today with a single shot.
Yes we can shoot at point blank ranges, but when we need to shoot a tank > 3 times to kill it, you are not even going to give us this advantage?
The Eryx doesn't NEED a tripod, it is also shoulder fired, however to ensure the folding fins on the missile are kept cleer of the floor when firing prone, a tripod is used. Stick a soldier in the setting of BF2 and I'm pretty sure he'd forgo the tripod as well.

Meh, the problem is surviving a 1 shot APC instakill in your face and surviving.
Now suddenly this is all about the finer details of the AT kit. Yes PASGT-V is 25lb, but as anti tank has the best body armour I included the extras such as the ceramic side plates (9lb). Then add the helmet 3.2lb, the knife 1lb, boots 5lb, trousers 2lb, shirt 1lb etc. I had worked out the ammo and webbing etc too but I really can't be arsed doing it again, it's late. It totals more than 110kg, but less than 120kg.
However using the rule that 1/3rd body weight = max operational carrying weight even at say 90kg total we would need our AT guys to be 270kg and around 20 feet tall.
Regards shooting at point blank and me not even giving you that, wtf are you on about, I've already said thats fine, as is the unrealistic kit in it's entirety. I do mods, and these things interest me. There is no link between the getting killed and any research I've done. I based the total weight on each rocket being 12.5kg (the heaviest weight of the BF2 rocket types).
I used the weight of the DAO, not MP5.
I got the other weights from government websites etc for helmet, body armour, webbing, uniform, boots, camelback etc etc. The total IS more than 110kg, but less than 120kg (can't remember exactly).
Thats TWICE what Kayback claims.

And I'm proud to say my 4:1 kdr with armour is NOT on infantry maps. It's hard won on Zatar, Oman, Songhua etc. I play infantry classes on infantry type maps like Mashtuur, Karkand etc, it's faster paced action than lumbering around in armour, and that's why generally, I prefer infantry.Originally posted by blue_pigletNah, you don't want realistic. BF2 forgoes some good RL features (e.g. fire and forget) and some bad RL features (e.g. minimum range of 17m for SRAW) for obvious reasons, which assist, not hinder the AT class.

Calling me a liar huh.Originally posted by KaybackHa ha. Dude, where do you get your info from?
The SRAW is a 1 man system. The only thing in BF2 that's multi person about it is the number of weapons the AT carries, THAT would take more than 2 people.
However, both you and SERIALBUTCHER need to ralise that the SRAW is a LONG way from both the LAW and the AT-4 even. The SRAW is a smart, fire and forget weapon that uses top attack. It bypasses all your fancy dancy armour and reactive plates. It dives down onto a target from the top and cuts through the very thin armour found there.
Even the T-90 has this problem.
The SRAW is especially wicked in the fact it uses a breaching charge, followed by a grenade. It's a multi part warhead. The first is a HEAT style charge that blasts burning metal and plasma into the tank, and folloowing through the hole is a grenade style warhead. This then shreds anyone inside a vehicle not blasted, cooked or liquified inside.
It's "fire and forget" for any moving vehicle out to 200m, and for a stationary one out to 500m.
How does this compare to BF2? Well in BF2 you have to aim the weapon. This makes you vulnerable to return fire. IRL the missile uses the laser range finder and an internal magnetic detector to find the vehicle and kill it. In BF2 you've got to laser designate, which is something vastly different from the "How far away is it? Oh" to the "Where is the dot".
Incidently, the weapon only weighs in at 20 pounds. Whats that? A little over 10kg? so 5 of them is 50Kg. Thats one hell of a lot when you add in the MP5 and 3 mags of ammo and a pistol. (4kg for the MP5 and 3 mags and another 1.5kg for the pistol for a total og around 60kg of equipment, and then add BDU's. Thats HALF of what Lazza claimed.
They are also shoulder fired and don't use bi/mono/tripods.
While I don't want the AT in BF2 to be one shot kills (that's too cheasy and no one would use armour) I would like to see the AT get a little more respect.
My suggestion to everything is make it either that the gunner/driver is seperate OR anmd this is the one I like the most, make the drivers a seperate class to whatever he is on foot. If you are an engineer you can't repair nearby vehicles while driving. Make is to a PASSENGER is needed to repair other vehicles.
If you are in a tank and want to make repairs to your buddy APC, either you need to switch to the M2, or you need to take another person along. Same with the APC's. If you want to repair, you have to move to the back. Or carry a passenger.
How does this make th AT's better ? Well now you have the change to get +4 for a sucessful kill, instead of simply +2. If they are solo driving, you don't have the main guns to compete with. Which will lead to increased surviveability.
Makeing the game more fun. And more team play orientated.
