Had enough - Support BF2 EA

I am an old timer. 1942, DC and FH - great Mods. Loved the game played 2/3 hours every night. Along comes BF2. What are they doing to my beloved game I thought? Tried the Demo. Thought on balance that it was an improvement (though the DC maps were really really good). I have been playing bf 2 for 700+ hours – have really enjoyed the game. Have had real value out of the £££ spent (that’s $$$ other places). Enjoyed the debates about tank/heli/jet/sniper – everyone has a different opinion a sign of a great game. Player id is Yamagod.

Sad then that I am really really peed off with DICE and EA and will be leaving the game shortly.

This game has actively got a little bit worse with each patch. Yes bunny hopping was a pain –C4 chucking noobish, the Black Hawk owned. These probably needed looking at. But all the other changes have left the game slightly worse off IME. For every re-balance – another set of issues. Well OK I played through these but I HAVE NOW HAD ENOUGH

The constant CTD and Server crashes, the exploits and hacks the lack of support – NO free maps except WAKE Great unwanted additions like cartillery and the major fact that having sold millions and building a community you are now going to blow it apart with 2142

What happened to the idea of supporting a game – building the franchise and community supporting modders, adding features etc. We have had 3 “expansion packs” – one of which you cannot use as part of the main game, one which has totally useless (and now unplayed) maps and one which is fine – but where is the focus on developing the game? More maps, weapons, ranks, badges, equipment, game styles, improved interfaces, kits customisation options. What about allowing mods to be ranked? No – none of this

Instead we are asked to fork out more money for a sci-fi alternative with some of these features. Has it occurred to anyone at EA/DICE that some of us are just not interested in aliens, we do not want futuristic – we want Bf2 to be stable and improved and we would pay something toward that.

I have had enough. The maps are now stale, the crashes are a joke (3 /4 times a night), the lack of support for mods woeful, the number of exploits and hacks making a mockery of stats.

2142 deserves to fail if only to stop the cynical exploitation of gamers. Great new features? Don’t make me laugh.

    Don’t let BF2 die DICE.

I've read a few statments on this forum but i think this one has to be the most accurate and to the point one yet.

Im not going to stop playing BF2 as the pro's (at the moment) outweigh the con but it can be frustrating.

I have no intention of buying BF2142, i like the present day semi-realism of the current BF2 and can do without going round shooting aliens, flying in spaceships and wearing a fetching silver jump suit

Were not asking for a miracle were just asking that EA/Dice listen to the people that pay for their software and instill some confidence back into the community which in turn would encourage people to come back and buy future releases.

The 1.4 patch fixes the server crashes and CTD introduced with 1.3, fixes or limits certain exploits, adds a new map and fixes cartillery so that you can't drop it on buildings nor does it destroy assets.

Yeah, good post, it pretty well sums up my thoughts.

It's weird though, even though I feel pretty well the same as you, when I get home of an evening I still tend to fire up BF2 over everything else (I bought FEAR recently, still not completed). Maybe I'm just a masochist :-)

It is definitely a shame the way patches seem to cause more problems than they fix. Compare it with 1942 - as far as I can remember, each patch made things smoother, more balanced, more stable, etc (maybe with a couple of hiccups) until finally things were "finished" with 1.6 (I think).

I find it really odd that new features are added completely out of the blue (co-op, cartiliary) when there's so much other stuff that needs attention. We ask for stuff to be fixed, EA completely ignore us and say "Hey, forget fixing stuff, how about Co-Op? Neat Huh?". It's just a bit weird. Developers had to put in time to make co-op and cartiliary (sorry, vehicle drops) work. That time was spent adding new (unneeded) features over actually fixing stuff. And now they have to fix Cartiliary too.

Why add new features instead of fixing existing features? I don't get it.

Nice post. Yeah, it does seem like DICE is trying to distract us with glitzy shiny new "features", meanwhile ignoring core game issues. THe core game issues are the hardest to fix, so they take the easy way out by just adding features.

Face the facts gentlemen.Ea/Dice is in this for the money, nothing else. That's all they listen to.The bottom line. You want them to hear you ?Don't buy 2142.When it fails THEN they will fall back on good ol cash cow BF2 and take the community seriously and fix things right. Sadly,it will take a community effort to insure 2142's failure.I don't see that happening.Too many people will run panting and drooling to the neareast WallMart to get the latest and greatest piece of crap EA has to offer so they can dial up their buddies and say"GUESS WHAT I GOT"!!!

Re: Had enough - Support BF2 EA

The game is old, its successor is on the horizon and the company is shifting its focus. BF2 will live as long as its community chooses to play it. If they truly acknowledge the BF2 community into the BF2142 universe by some form of account transfer that will be a nearly unprecidented leap in activity.

I've played all major kinds of games from all the major developers and the "Community Type" that has always puzzled me the most is the FPS crowd.

                  Hear me out.

In an MMORPG the community is pumping millions of dollars into the developers pockets in subscription fees every month, they are basically paying the devs to respond to the popular majority. The community has a promise of support and effeciency in the games operation.

FPS games on the other hand, are purchased once, like any other comodity. The game companies do us a favor by releasing patches that address hardware issues which result from millions of un-tested harware configurations interacting with their software. They patch and react, patch and react, and patch and react... all basically for free. In EA's case, they release pay-for "Expansions" and "Booster" packs like SF and AF to recoop some of their development costs.

Sometimes it just seems that the community built around non-subscription titles have an un-earned sense of entitlement. I know that the game has bugs, and the ones that render it unplayable should be fixed, but the EULA and other agreements you said "Agree" to clearly state that you are buying the software "As Is" and they have no responsibility beyond retail sale to help you, the individual user, by patching the game, yet they do.

Devs have a ridiculously hard job when you consider that litterally, there are millions upon millions of different hardware combinations that a user can have and they are attempting to write code that will operate on all of them. Is it realistic? Heck no.

If anybody wants bug-free, patch-free games, try an xbox 360 or playstation 3. Thats a static hardware set that devs can make flawless games for.

I can't imagine another entertainment medium apart from PC gaming that has such rawkous and demanding consumers. As if $49.99 is a lot of money in the long run.

I'm no lover of EA by any stretch, but as somebody who, like the OP, came from BF1942 and BFV, how could you expect anything other than the current state of BF2. This is EA we're talking about.

Nobody is perfect, much less EA....but I choose to believe that they are operating with the best interest of their customers in mind.

I also know, that regardless of what they do to BF2 in the next 6 months, that 2142 will sell like gangbusters and EA will rake in another massive windfall.

Maybe their stock will tank, maybe the company will go bankrupt... maybe their foul deeds will finally be recognized.....

or maybe, another 17 yr old kid will get an EA game for his birthday and the machine will keep on rolling down the tracks.

Sorry, but maybe I'm just a capitalist pig American, but what else is there for a business to ultimately function for?

Does anybody really think they are in this business for thank-you cards? Warm fuzzy emotions?

They are a publicly traded company. Their sole mission is to make a profit for the shareholders.

If this disgusts or disapoints you, find a little-known independent gaming hovel, play their non-commercialized games and stick it to the man.

walking in here and claiming that "EA is in it for the money", as if that is either surprising, OR bad, is pretty ignorant.

Forgot to mention that the BF2 Stats system has destroyed what was a tight community. I also blame the stats for all the nerfs and gameplay changes.

Instead of being driven on fun the game is now driven on stats.

I agree, Stats did kill the fun factor of BF2, and spilt the community between ranked and unranked. Stats should run but not play a big part, there should be 1 kind of server were people could put mods etc. All the fixes have been done due inpart of stats. Would people stat pad on an unranked server...no is there even a point to stat pad on an unranked server? Fun was the key and thats why BF 1942 was so fun. People played for fun, and didn't have to deal with teamkilling for jets and helo becuase they knew they would get 50 kills 20 min later. I feel there is no saving Bf2 now, to much time would have to be put in and away from 2142 for them to care. If anything the next patch is the last patch. They did the open beta to fix as many problems as possible before they say goodbye.

Well this has been one VeryGood thread. Not much response yet but what there was was level headed. Haveing come from the old days myself and dabbled with programming, it laways amazed me how little thought went into our (yes I complain too) complaints about programs. The thousands, perhaps billions of lines of code that has to be traced and such. Boggling.

It's actually good to see BOTH sides of the argument and I congratulate both gentlemen for their words. It is discuraging when you fork out 49.95 and it doesn't work well or doesn't work at all on your machine. The cost though meagar in the overall bucket is still not chump change with a tank of gas costing 50-60 dollars a whack just to go back and forth to work to make the money to buy thses games.

The games are, in my opinion, all buggs and problems aside, works of art. Trust me because I started on text games that evolved to 8 bit graphics. But enough. I will struggle to play BF2, because I like real world scentios and my sone will soon be in Iraq for his first tour. Perhaps I feel that I can kill enough bad guys in cyber space that he will come back to me safely. Silly? Perhaps. But none the less.

                              Good playing All....Good playing
