Sad then that I am really really peed off with DICE and EA and will be leaving the game shortly.

This game has actively got a little bit worse with each patch. Yes bunny hopping was a pain –C4 chucking noobish, the Black Hawk owned. These probably needed looking at. But all the other changes have left the game slightly worse off IME. For every re-balance – another set of issues. Well OK I played through these but I HAVE NOW HAD ENOUGH

The constant CTD and Server crashes, the exploits and hacks the lack of support – NO free maps except WAKE Great unwanted additions like cartillery and the major fact that having sold millions and building a community you are now going to blow it apart with 2142

What happened to the idea of supporting a game – building the franchise and community supporting modders, adding features etc. We have had 3 “expansion packs” – one of which you cannot use as part of the main game, one which has totally useless (and now unplayed) maps and one which is fine – but where is the focus on developing the game? More maps, weapons, ranks, badges, equipment, game styles, improved interfaces, kits customisation options. What about allowing mods to be ranked? No – none of this

Instead we are asked to fork out more money for a sci-fi alternative with some of these features. Has it occurred to anyone at EA/DICE that some of us are just not interested in aliens, we do not want futuristic – we want Bf2 to be stable and improved and we would pay something toward that.

I have had enough. The maps are now stale, the crashes are a joke (3 /4 times a night), the lack of support for mods woeful, the number of exploits and hacks making a mockery of stats.

2142 deserves to fail if only to stop the cynical exploitation of gamers. Great new features? Don’t make me laugh.

    Don’t let BF2 die DICE.

Hey, BF2142 WILL be better than BF2. BF2 started off with bugs and other issues, and it will die like that. BF2142 wil be supported much longer because BF3 will have to have a new engine therefore it will take longer than a year to make it, meaning BF2142 will have a longer lifetime than BF2. BF2142 also has a new mode, it'll give the bf franchise a fresher feel to it....And who likes aliens???????I DO!!!!

Re: Had enough - Support BF2 EA

Nice to know I'm not alone

I really didn't want to have a go at EA/DICE in the way many threads go - from people who don't engage brain first. Like I said at the top BF2 is a great game. And if it dies tomorrow i can't complain - I had my moneys worth. Its also the only game i know where the developers have made a game that runs worse now than it did a year ago.

What is very frustrating is the apparent short term outlook (I would guess) of EA. Its attitude seems to be "lets add these great features into a new game - many will migrate and we can make a bundle". But they overlooked a number of things not least the great frustration in the bf2 community. Talk about a million customers whio they are managing to alienate (pun intended)

we have a great community who like bf2 and its"today" setting". We are not being supported adequately - look at the quality of the patches, modders are not being supported at all, and there is no forward thinking to develop the game. There is still money to be made here. I for one would be happy to pay for improved developments (as opposed to 3 half done maps) and well considered new features and game play styles, updated interfaces. Maybe new kits or equipment, maybe unlocks.

But we have none of this and instead all these things are destined for 2142 - which holds little or no interest for me and I would guess many many others. Well Ok then - at least support the modding community - but are they? It appears not. Having introduced the ranked server and stats idea - at least have some "approved" mods be ranked and allowed to count toward stats. Modders can take up the creative slack which EA have abandonned.

I'm not playing seriiously again until 1.4 is out - and then maybe some mods we will see. Lifes jis ust too shor tto be looking at a server crash for the third time in an hour and then having to wait 3 or 4 minutes to join a game (no my RAM is fine and my 2 meg connection is fine too)

As a comparison I have ust started playing WoW - havent come across a bug, lag or crash yet and dont see many problems in their forums.

It can be done if there is a will to.

Re: Had enough - Support BF2 EA

Comparing an MMORPG to a FPS is like comparing apples to automobiles.

I played WoW from release day and let me tell you... the bugs, lag and crashes were un-ending for the first 8 months the game was out, then the released a couple hundred new servers and patch after patch after patch.

WoW was not spawned in its current state. Millions of dollars of developemt money, funded by SUBSCRIBERS, made it possible.

If we paid monthly to play BF2 we would have more right to complain.

*see my first post in this thread

The 'BF2 niche" is what exactly?

Again, Im not fan-boying here but these kinds of comments need to be addressed.

BF2142 follows the natural progression of the game from a chronological standpoint.

WW2 - > Vietnam -> Modern Combat in an imaginary war -> Future combat in an imaginary war.

It may not fit YOUR idea of what the "BF Niche" is but I bet a few hundred thousand people disagree.

                    Lets see.

Battlefield 1942 was the first successful attempt at combining all the elements of "warfare" into one shooter.

                    Aircraft - Check
                    Armor - Check
                    Transports - Check
                    Class-based Infantry - Check.

What will 2142 bring to the table?

                    Aircraft - Check
                    Armor - Check
New kinds of armor - Check
                    Transports - Check
                    Class-based Infantry - Check.

What part of the gameplay model presented by BF2142 doesnt fit the "Battlefield" model?

Good point - its make it possible doesn't it? If I add on the cost of the 3expansion packs I paid for this year - that is basically equivalent to a low level monthly subscription!

I've played all major kinds of games from all the major developers and the "Community Type" that has always puzzled me the most is the FPS crowd.

                        Hear me out.

In an MMORPG the community is pumping millions of dollars into the developers pockets in subscription fees every month, they are basically paying the devs to respond to the popular majority. The community has a promise of support and effeciency in the games operation.

FPS games on the other hand, are purchased once, like any other comodity. The game companies do us a favor by releasing patches that address hardware issues which result from millions of un-tested harware configurations interacting with their software. They patch and react, patch and react, and patch and react... all basically for free. In EA's case, they release pay-for "Expansions" and "Booster" packs like SF and AF to recoop some of their development costs.

Sometimes it just seems that the community built around non-subscription titles have an un-earned sense of entitlement. I know that the game has bugs, and the ones that render it unplayable should be fixed, but the EULA and other agreements you said "Agree" to clearly state that you are buying the software "As Is" and they have no responsibility beyond retail sale to help you, the individual user, by patching the game, yet they do.

Devs have a ridiculously hard job when you consider that litterally, there are millions upon millions of different hardware combinations that a user can have and they are attempting to write code that will operate on all of them. Is it realistic? Heck no.

If anybody wants bug-free, patch-free games, try an xbox 360 or playstation 3. Thats a static hardware set that devs can make flawless games for.

I can't imagine another entertainment medium apart from PC gaming that has such rawkous and demanding consumers. As if $49.99 is a lot of money in the long run.

I'm no lover of EA by any stretch, but as somebody who, like the OP, came from BF1942 and BFV, how could you expect anything other than the current state of BF2. This is EA we're talking about.

Nobody is perfect, much less EA....but I choose to believe that they are operating with the best interest of their customers in mind.

I also know, that regardless of what they do to BF2 in the next 6 months, that 2142 will sell like gangbusters and EA will rake in another massive windfall.

Maybe their stock will tank, maybe the company will go bankrupt... maybe their foul deeds will finally be recognized.....

or maybe, another 17 yr old kid will get an EA game for his birthday and the machine will keep on rolling down the tracks.

Sorry, but maybe I'm just a capitalist pig American, but what else is there for a business to ultimately function for?

Does anybody really think they are in this business for thank-you cards? Warm fuzzy emotions?

They are a publicly traded company. Their sole mission is to make a profit for the shareholders.

If this disgusts or disapoints you, find a little-known independent gaming hovel, play their non-commercialized games and stick it to the man.

walking in here and claiming that "EA is in it for the money", as if that is either surprising, OR bad, is pretty ignorant.
Did you miss the fact EA shipped BF2 minus about half of what had been advertised would be in it for months? Or that they quicly released SF where you could pay again to get a few of the things previously promised and payed for? Or the fact We pay a lot of money for RANKED servers which is money in EA's pocket. Lies told promises broken yet i am still here like BF2 is a hot girlfriend i cant put down for any reason....

Subscription based game for a year.

                          Retail game $ 50
                          Monthly Subscription $12*12 months = $144

                          Total, 194.

Thats almost half the cost. And the fact is, there is no monthly cost so making such a supposition is a little counter-productive to this discussion.

Or the fact We pay a lot of money for RANKED servers which is money in EA's pocket. Lies told promises broken yet i am still here like BF2 is a hot girlfriend i cant put down for any reason....
And here, I have to ask for specifics.

Making claims like "half what was promised" without more information doesnt help. Im not here to fight, but the classic flaw in every forum argument is that people come along making sweeping accusations without feeling the burden of backing them up with facts.

What did EA promise at release?

What did they sell in Special Forces that was supposed to be in release?

Re: Had enough - Support BF2 EA

I have to say I have mixed opinions of EA.

I have been playing games since EA released their first title, all those years ago. I think EA have been doing a really good job ever since and have released some really good titles. Anyone remember Populous 1 & 2?

Although I agree a company is there to primarily make money, it would however be nice to give a games player something back once in a while. A few more free maps here and there or a couple of guns chucked in for good measure. Sure sell some expansion packs too, but the odd freebie now and again would be nice!

I don't really think it helps saying EA are an evil corporation and that they churn out terrible games either. Isn't it a bit hypocrytical as you are playing and getting very worked up about, as a previous chap put it, a work of art?

The one thing I will say that is VERY negative about EA is their terrible Tech Support, but that is another story!

I also feel it is a bit silly to argue that EA are traitors for turning their back on BF2 and releasing new titles like BF2142. I for one really like Sci Fi and I am eagerly awaiting the release of what looks like an awesome game to come. Do people really expect EA to focus on BF2 forever and NEVER release another FPS game again, that is a little narrow minded surely?

Play the game, be happy that EA Dice have released a master piece, and hope that they give us something for free once in a while!!

I think what makes these kinds of requests so "plausible" in the realm of computer games, versus other businesses, is that you can't touch software. It is 1's and 0's on a disk, or even downloaded. Asking for a free map (like Road to Jalalabad) is like asking for free stuff from a car company.

"I've been buying Hondas ever since I was able to drive and I think it would be nice if they gave me a new paintjob or at least some new tires."

Nevermind that it takes hours and hours to code a map, make it balanced, test it.

I don't know... I go in cycles... some times I loathe these game companies and sometimes I feel for them.

This week, I am kinda on EA's side... as if they need my support.
