Ok, how are you suppose to find someone who wants a ride with text? You see the little roundish thing by you blinking yellow if they said somthing. (The map, what the people are and vehicles)

Re: No one chats in BF2.

I have a microphone. Sometimes I just dont feel like talking u know. And sometimes, peoples voices really irratate me.

You know, how u got that one squad member, who sounds like a weirdo... and u want to mute them. Chatting is in pretty much ALL online games.

Its present in BF2, but not implemented well, or used very often.

Trust me, its nice to be commander and type out to your team "yuo guys move away from hotel, im going to artillery it". Or as a team mate, type to your team mates, "hey guys, lets take the flag at the square, and then move to the island, since they are blowing up our assets. Who wants to come with me?"

U know, it can add a whole new level of tactical playing to the game, and could prevent a lot of the chicken running without heads on type of playing we have been seeing.

indeed it is hard to chat with your msg scrolling off the screen instantly.

I find it's actually harder to find the time to type a message... You don't really want to sit there typing, because you're just asking to get killed as you do it.

I do agree it's more fun when people chat to each other though. It seems to happen a lot more if you're in a server waiting for more players to join to start a round...

I think it would be good if you could pre-set chat messages to send instantly. Other games have this, with the messages mapped to, say, the number pad - giving you ten pre-set messages that you can send immediately at the touch of a button.

This is just what i was gonna say, its something that has been bugging me for a while, and it would be easy for them to implement it. You do want to type things after the game, the way it is at the moment its so hard to type during a match its almost pointless.

Put in a Message History button. Problem solved.

Re: No one chats in BF2.

                        Use in-game VOIP.

Choose servers with dedicated TeamSpeak or Ventrilo servers.

Bring down the console (I think it displays the text) and scroll up to see old text.

                        Or go back to CS.

BF2 has built-in communication options leaving text-chat pretty much useless. Actually, I wish they'd turn it off altogether. All the CS kiddies just use it to curse and taunt. 'omfg taht wuz ghey!'

As far as i know, you can only VOIP to people on your own team. What if you want to talk to someone on the other side?

No one ever chats. In counter-strike its nice to say things like "wow, that was really cool" or meet people online that are cool and stuff.

No one chats in BF2 because the second you type something, it will dissappear, because whenever someone says "I need ammo" or "roger that" or "enemy spotted" it appears in the chat window. So this makes your text that you typed, appear in a big jumble of other words, that no one ever reads.

So here is how we resolve this. One of two ways.

#1. Have a sperate area where text chat goes. So people can actually talk to each other, and have a good time conversing in the game, and forming extra strategies. (not everyone has, or likes to use a microphone).

#2. Don't display the annoying text that we hear anyways. I already here constantly "Give me a ride" or "I need a medic here", 24/7, so do I really have to read it constantly too?

Lets try to clean up the interface a bit EA/Dice. At the present its a little messy with a lot of things on the screen which dont need to be there.
#2 is a good idea, but your arguement is stupid. One of the worst things about CS:S is the dumb chit chat. You can't fight a ****in battle if you're typing about your ingrown pubic hair. If you want to talk while fighting, use voip, that simple.

people generally dont talk because they focus on the game to much

Because focusing on the gaame is baaaaaad.

Another reason why the "Teamwork" nerf excuse is flawed.

Reason number 253 - People don't even use VOIP.
