Re: Can someone explain the whole logic of language filter?

I don't see what the problem is.. If some want to kill others in a completly swear-free enviroment, let them.. Aslong as it's not forced upon all of us on every server I'm ok with it.. Freedom of choice is where it's at..

And like I said, I use a 3rd party voice program with a couple of friends of mine on which we can swear as much as we want, nobody else hears it, or can block it.. And if we wantred to swear in the game with typed messages we could always do it in our own language, as most of these filters only seem to block English swearwords.. But we won't (in most cases, unless someone is laming arround baseraping or something)..

i swear often, i dont see the harm in it.....it hasnt injured me or anyone around me, and quite frankly, if it does harm you, you should walk your fragile sorry self to the head-shrink, and resolve these issues......words are empty, they have no intrinsic value in and of themselves, its about how they are recieved.......if you give words the powwer to upset, offend, or injur you, then that is your own choice, and that is where the problem lies....

i like to be all about respect.....although i dont agree with peoples personal aversion to text, or sound vibrations, i will respect whatever rules they apply.....i have no reason not to, its not hard to exrcise a little bit of restraint over our language....

basically, i fall in the middle....i dont like ppl who are overly sensative, and fragile, and cannot withstand the power they give these words.....also, i dont like the people who have no respect for the rules of a server, and feel they have the right to ignore any rule they disagree with....

like it or not, i try to be respectful, or find a server that doesnt ban me forevers because i said 'asset', or 'cockpit', etc...

so all in all, i think its about being respectful to the rules of the server, regardless of whether or not you agree with them....its not too hard, infact, its easier than typing an obscenity

I know I swear a lot, cant really help it. Most of my kicks and bans are from violating the swear rule. And while I do this a lot, I also see why the rules are set. Theres a lot of kids playing, and a lot of servers want to enforce a friendly and nice game-only environment. Frankly, you shouldnt swear in the chat anyway. Thats not why its there.

I'll argue my right regardless. But I don't belong to that specific group of people, and I myself curse very infrequently, and when I do it's "Holy cr*p that was nice" or "what the h*ll was that TK for?" I personally don't like the F-bomb. When somobody insults me in-game with the F-bomb and "you're so gay, you're a f*g, go suck my c*ck" I don't respond with that same language. That would make me just as pathetic as them because I can't express myself without the use of blatant swearing. Don't beleive me? Ask all the people I've verbally owned without using "F*ck you" and stuff like that. Usually I respect other players, unless they themselves are being disrespectful or offensive. So basically all I'm saying is that everybody has a right to say what they want to. That's fine if some servers will put up filters. Those players who like to curse will just have to refrain, or jsut play elsewhere. But it's still just a word. The context is really all that matters, imho. So this makes admins more useful than filters and auto kicks: Admins, unlike computers, can tel what the context is.

Re: Can someone explain the whole logic of language filter?

The bottom line is that it matters very little what opinions we all have about it.

The only thing that matters is what the server-owner decideds to put in place.

A server is not country where you may have some freedoms and rights, it's a private domain form where you can be kicked and banned for no reason at all. You have no rights beyond what the server-owner gives you.

Fortunately, most places have language filters in place. By all means, give people a warning first to that they can learn, but after that kicks and bans are perfectly reasonable.

If you can't understand and accept the need for a language-filter, you are most likely a good example of why they are in place to begin with. It's no different that TK'ing - most players simply will not tolearte anti-social behavior that disrupts gameplay.

                Cheers :-)

Perfect example of how the filter thing can ruin a great game; I was playing operation Harvest last night flying the AH1Z and my gunner was badass I mean hitting everything in Armor,on foot, or in the air. And after so many "roger that" or "hey thanks" I just came out and told him "****ing A! Nice shooting!" and boom immediate kick. So yea it can be good or bad from different aspects. But from mine, its usually an annoyance.

Re: Can someone explain the whole logic of language filter?

It is true that a swear-word can sometimes be used to convey a compliment or to enhance a positive mood. However, everyone who does not have a pathological need to swear can learn to use a different language if they get kicked.

In fact, most people with some semblance of self-control and awareness of their language will only ever get kicked once, before they learn to use an alternative way to express themselves.

Everyone benefits from achievent a higher level of self-awareness when expressing themselves - consider language filters a free education tool that will help you in your life and with social relations.

                      Cheers :-)

Foul language is just as wrong as racist language. Whoever taught you how to judge of what is "inappropriate" did you a disservice by not smacking you upside the head when you cursed.

Is it that hard to comprehend???
Clearly it's hard for YOU to comprehend the fact that taking someones life is a lot worse than a few words

Refraining from the use of bad language when in the company of strangers is nothing more than an expected common courtesy when offline, so why should it be any different online? Social decency says that you don't use language like that unless you are well aware that all those involved in the conversation are happy with it. Unfortunately, when playing on a public server online, you simply won't know everyone else who's there, and therefore the more formal rules of basic respect and decency should apply - ie no swearing.

I myself do swear - when in the company of those I know for a fact won't be offended by it. For those who talk about context, I take the point, but you'd never try to draw that distinction in a verbal conversation face to face with someone offline, would you? Online behaviour should be no different. Why is it that people seem to think that the rules should change when you're on the internet? We all know they do, but why...?

For those that say that swearing is a release of frustration, I agree... But when I get killed in BF2 I swear out loud in the room I'm sat in, I don't type it in a chat message.

EDIT: I'm with the people who point out that the filters can be set up poorly though, and give out kicks to people who say things like "asset" and "cockpit"... To talk about game features and have it earn you a kick is wrong. And annoying. 5 of my 6 kicks have been for this reason.
