An that my friend is your opinion and your prerogative.
However other may not see things the way you do and make rules for it.
Why can you not respect those rules?

I personally don't care if you swear like a sailor, as long as you don't do it on the server that I pay for. Why is it so difficult for people to respect that?

Fair enough, it's your server and you can do what you want with it. I'm just trying to understand this massive sensitivity people show towards colourful language, given this is a game aimed towards adults and not frail Christian pensioners.

Some servers I play on will warn for the word "noob"...
There's another one that kicked me for "WTF?"...

Aslong as there is no swear-filter on our Teamspeak server, I don't care.. We hardly use typed messages..

I also feel the swearing is just part of the fun of playing these type of games with your friends.. Also, this is a violent war-game in a very realistic setting, so it's a bit hypocrite imho to allow your (to young) kids to play it but not allow them to see or hear swearing.. The PEGI age-limit for BF2 is 16+, and kids from that age are not hurt by swearing anymore then they are from seeying other people-like characters being shot or blown-up.. But ok, server-admins can do whatever they want, it's their server, plenty of others servers to play on without such filters (if you care)..

Once again I have to ask to please stop comparing playing shooter game with swearing and what to allow kids to do..
Just like if they watching movies I teach my kids that it is not real. It is simulated violence that appeals to people.
Using swears is a deliberate real act. Not simulated. That is the difference.

Not an inherently harmful deliberate real act though.

Neither is masturbation but people get in trouble for doing that in public too.

It's not doing me any harm at all. But why should I allow the people that come to our servers (especially the ones who donate to it and support our rules) be subject to it?
I'm favoring the lesser of 2 issues. If you swear in game there are bound to be people who take offense to it. If you don't swear no one is offended. Simple.
We choose to support less offensive language on our servers.

There's also another word for it. It's called Maturity. Be a mature person and respect another's right to NOT want to hear it.

Re: Can someone explain the whole logic of language filter?

Perhaps, if an appeal to manners and dignity doesn't help, the simple logic of it might:

Your right to use offensive language and your right to impose your personal interpretation of "context" among complete strangers of all age-groups, is not even remotely as important as strangers' right to avoid having to listen to your foul language.

If you belong to the oblivious group of people who swear and drop the F-bomb in malls, movie-theatres and among other complete strangers in public places, chances are that you will continue to argue your "right" to use the whole spectrum and range of the English language in the game.

By doing so, you have exactly proven the point: we need a language filter for people who simply cannot grasp that people do not care to be the involuntary victim of your choice of profane and vulgar language, whatever your personal interpretation of the meaning may be.

It's simple - very simple - communication is about how your audience understands it, not about how you intend them to undertand it. You cannot expect or force other people to spend time and effort to get to know how you realy meant it. Therefore, the easiest and best way to do it, is to block the use of certain words.

Kids do not learn to kill because the play a game, but they do learn to swear by listening to peer-group members who swear. Look up the social science on that if you don't believe me. In the game you pretend to "kill" a player - until the next re-spawn. When you swear you don't pretend to swear, you actually swear.

Surely, it must be clear to everyone by now?

                    Cheers :-)

You all thus far, not specifically u N2k, take my comments waaaaaaaaaaay too seriously. You think I curse when I'm at school working on labs with fellow students or at work assisting customers with their questions? Of course not. Cursing is way to release frustration for me when doing something I enjoy such as playing BF2 or golfing etc.

Like whoever on this thread really thinks I beat the $hit out of my wrist until it's almost broken. Did you really take that literally? LMAO! All you people that take stupid comments like that to the heart are the ones that need to find another passtime. Its just like Eminem and why he antagonizes the people he does in the manner he does; to get a rise out of them and then laugh his *** off when he does. FFS people, learn to take things with a wink sometimes instead of flipping your safeties off at every thing you see/hear.

Re: Can someone explain the whole logic of language filter?

                        Oh I give up.

For the record, I avoid swearing openly on public transportation and around oldies/children anywhere, if any of my friends swear in the same situations I tell them to put a lid on it. Why do you call swearing the F-bomb anyway? As if mumbling 'feckin' ell' under ones breath is an almighty explosion against decent sensibilities.

I'm not appealing for people to be allowed to insult each other, I'm against that and I believe idiots who run their mouth off should be kicked. I'm also not advocating widespread swear-offs with people spamming naughty words and the like. However, the odd swear word when not used to insult or offend but merely to illustrate some kind of point/amusing quip is harmless.

As for kids, they shouldn't even be playing the game! Anyone over the age of 16 shouldn't need to be shielded from the odd verboten word.

                        Sticks and stones.

I can actually agree with that however the Word Filter does not differentiate between context or intent. It just filters the word.

BTW...Our word filter warns twice before it kicks.

Again that's your opinion. As I stated, our community commends us for the way we handle profanity and that is their opinion and option to stay there.

Re: Can someone explain the whole logic of language filter?

We must deal with the reality we live in. The reality is that many kids under 16 play BF2. There is no way to control that from a distance.

But it's not just about preventing inferior manners to rub off on children. It's also about a large group of people who simple do not appreciate how vulgar and obscene language has found it's way into nearly every multiplayer online game there is out there.

Fortunately the trend is that language filters are being used in more and more games. Servers are owned by individuals and what language you use on their server should be no different than what you use, if you were invited to their homes.

You don't just start swearing all over the place when you visit a strangers house, do you? (this is nor directed at any individual here, but in general). If you do, you just prove the point of having a language filter and a kick-feature.

What happens if you, inappropriately, swear in some strangers' house? Especially if they have a sign on their front door saying "please don't swear, we don't appreciate foul language"? It's just like smoking - it's pollution that you force others to endure, all in the name of your percieved "right" to express yourself in whatever manner you like.

You don't have the rights in other poeple's homes and you don't have this right on their servers either. That's the way it should be - imagine if you owned a server and you couldn't impose any rules on it? I think most people would stop paying for a server, if that was the case.

Whatever intent or mindset you bring with you when you swear and use obscene language, it has no place when you don't know everyone and everyone don't know you. It has no place unless everyone is OK with it.

                            Cheers :-)

atleast u guys give warnings. I for the most part dislike the servers that immediately kick for the first offense.
