Can someone explain the whole logic of language filter?
Re: Can someone explain the whole logic of language filter?
I think some server admins add filters just to give themselves a feeling of power. They know that somebody out there will be saying "wtf? I got kicked for saying 'pwned'?"
Re: Can someone explain the whole logic of language filter?
Tell me about it, it's no wonder nobody bloody speaks, they're too afraid of getting kicked. I got kicked from the same server approx 5 times, for saying things like "idiot", "moron" and "n00b", "gay" and "stfu".
I can understand filtering harsher obscenities, but for those stated above it's just petty and frustrating.
Re: Can someone explain the whole logic of language filter?
There is no reason to accept vulgar, coarse or rude language on any server.
If anyone is too dense/slow/stubborn to learn to express themselves in a more dignified manner, perhaps being kicked off a game-server is just the right motivation the need to learn.
We are playing a game and the objective is to have fun and enjoy ourselves. Having to suffer crude language with every single chat-line is a burden we should not have to bear.
In real life, you can usually steer clear of this kind of language by not socializing with the verbally challenged - but in-game it would be impossible. Why should those with reasonable manners and decent upbringing be the ones to leave the game?
For children and adolescents in their teens, the clues to acceptable social behavior is, in part, taken form the multi-player arenas they visit. If enough of this behaviour is allowed, too many will be under the illusion that this is how you communicate with strangers and acquaintances.
Learning to express yourself in a dignified manner is, for many, like learning a new language. It's sad, but a part of the reality we live in. However, as everyone with even a little bit of education knows, learning a new language is healthy for your development as a person.
Re: Can someone explain the whole logic of language filter?
I think some words need to be filtered for people to have a good time on the server. Nobody likes a game where one guy is constantly yelling "F*** YOU!" or rascist comments. But actually typing "wtf" should not be filtered. Words like crap, hell, wtf, noob, pwned. . . come on kicking for that is just lame. But what I don't understand is why the words are bad in th first place. Is it the secific combination of letters? what if you're not using it in context? Also, responsible parents wouldn't let their kids play on servers where they're being exposed to stuff like that if the kids are younger.
"Game experience may change during online play"
There's a warning for this kind of stuff. Read it. Listen to it.

I'll have you know I express myself in a perfectly ****ing dignified manner. Again, I stress the importance of context. I wouldn't describe the F word as inherently vulgar, coarse, disgusting, rude, etc. at all. It's perhaps the most versatile word in the English language and I for one use it economically, and what's more I don't see anything wrong with that. Of course I won't swear like a docker in front of my Grandmother, but amongst friends it comes naturally.
As for being 'verbally challenged', I'd say the complete opposite is true. Why deny yourself a fair chunk of the English vocabulary and opt to hang out with nuns in an effort to avoid these awful awful words? Would you actually be terribly offended to the point of fainting if one of your friends uttered the words 'Bollocks, I left my phone at home'?
I think every case should be judged on its merits. If someone is being an absolute idiot and spouting off on a server then fine, kick him. If someone merely utters the phrase 'Oh for feck's sake' in a deadpan sort of way then they shouldn't get kicked automatically. If such light-hearted use of swearwords offends you so much then move out of the bible camp immediately and grow a hide.
As for corrupting the minds of innocent children (Please, please think of the children!!), they shouldn't be playing the game in the first place.

except you have no idea what kind of words people have added to the filter until you get kicked for it. then it is just a plain hassle to join back to the server after waiting for the requisite one minute.
If the issue is "Profanity" then stick to that... dont wait for somebody to make a counter-point then change the issue.
It seems that just as some people are losing grip of what is socially acceptable, they are forgetting basic rules of discussion and debate.
"What? You made a point that invalidates mine? LOOK OVER THERE! ITS AN UNRELATED POINT IM GOING TO MAKE TO DRAW ATTENTION FROM MY FAILURE!"
Re: Can someone explain the whole logic of language filter?
Some things are so infuriating it's hard to reply to them in a dignified manner, and i've never known anyone to leave a server over bad language. People who play extremely violent computer games tend to have the foresight that there will be bad language involved.
Not everyone who uses bad language is "dense/slow/stubborn", has a poor up-bringing or bad manners. If people didnt abuse glitches/exploits and numerous other things in the game perhaps there would be fewer cases of bad language.
Besides people barely talk AT ALL in Battlefield 2, so i dont see what the big deal is. You shouldnt be penalised for harmlessly expressing yourself.

OMG please stop making that reference. YES we know that it's a game where you kill people. WE GET THAT ALREADY!!! :wall:
We just don't see the need for profane language running through the chat.
Is it that hard to comprehend???
