We're all playing a game that involves shooting, knifing, nuking each other for enjoyment, but I'm starting to see bunch of pansy server admin that doesn't allow words such as "hell," "balls," "crap," etc... I can understand if someone filter out words like nig... since those are truly inappropriate.
Can someone explain the whole logic of language filter?

Re: Can someone explain the whole logic of language filter?
Some server owners know that kids visit their server so they add words. There does not need to be logic, it's just personal choice. On the other hand you have people that do not want to hear vulgarities at all. Just because you play a game that involves shooting, knifinig, and nuking as you put it, does not mean that dropping F-bombs and stuff has to be part of the game as well. Everyone has a preference, we don't have to like it but it should be respected. -
Re: Can someone explain the whole logic of language filter?
So retarded, get rid of it. Now tell me what would they rather kids seeing violence of blowing people up, shooting people in the head, stabbing people. Or kids hearing swearing? I know there both bad for a kid to hear/see but tell me. Also ever heard of ''Experience may change when playing online''?
Seriously get rid of it, I have tried to find servers with no swear filter. I have like 4 in my favorites, and its pretty damn good. So its like if im playing with a friend, and they are in my squad, and theres say someone hiding around a corner, I'd say ''Flush the mofo out'' Kicked for ''mofo''.
Lmao the best one was when I was Commander and the enemy commander kept blowing all the planes, choppers, troops on the carrier with arty. So I said to my team ''Need someone to blow up the enemy Commanders assets'' kicked for ''***'' so stupid, so now I have to resort to saying ''Blow up the Commanders toys''
So stupid also once got kicked for ''This is some funny stuff'' kicked for ''fu'' because the server kicked for abbreviations.
Also kicked for ''sucks'' because I was on this server and the OUR commander kept dropping vehicle drops on our choppers, so I said ''Our Commander sucks'' kicked for that. Im so damn sick of it.Comment

Re: Can someone explain the whole logic of language filter?
I see what ziggie is saying. What's worse for kids playing a game where you are killing people or being exposed to swearing? If a kid is old enough to play a game where its basically non stop killing why would you care if he swears or is exposed to it. It seems hypocritical to me too, but whatever I can live without swearing.Comment

Re: Can someone explain the whole logic of language filter?
Swearing is a habit you'll catch and use in real life. Killing hopefully is not...so is more relaxed...seeing it's part of the game. Cursing...is not part of the game.
Seriously, nothing more pathetic than seeing some 12 year old who thinks he's all that because he can curse up a storm at wal-mart.Comment

Re: Can someone explain the whole logic of language filter?
Good point. The game is 16+ (in the UK anyway), most 16 year olds are used to and commonly use vulgar language in everyday conversation, myself included. I accept that its not good for children of a young age to be exposed to foul language.Originally posted by Eternal-SouljahSo retarded, get rid of it. As for your point about people being blown up, killed, knifed etc. Yes very true, but I guess this is why their is blood, or dismemberment in BF2 (inc. expansions and boosters).
Their is some servers that are just OTT when it comes to language and abbreviations, I guess theirs nothing more you can do but hold back on the language or just move on to another server.Originally posted by Eternal-SouljahLmao the best one was when I was Commander and the enemy commander kept blowing all the planes, choppers, troops on the carrier with arty. Re: Can someone explain the whole logic of language filter?
The point is to have an option. I can guarantee you that you will at some point in your life come across someone that does not curse at all. I know of several people that just dont want ot hear it.
It's not just for kids, it's for everyone. Like I said, a game is a game, everyone has the right to not want to read all kinds of vulgarities. That is why it exists in the first place, choices.Comment

Re: Can someone explain the whole logic of language filter?
except you have no idea what kind of words people have added to the filter until you get kicked for it. then it is just a plain hassle to join back to the server after waiting for the requisite one minute.Originally posted by Revoluti0nThe point is to ahve an option. Re: Can someone explain the whole logic of language filter?
I've said this a million time on almost every anti-laguange filter thread that has ever come out.
We have heavy language filters on our servers and the regular people in our community commend us for it and tell us it's part of the reason they stay.
Not every one needs to hear vulgarity all the time. If you can't control your language in a public place (Which basically are what public servers are) then you are of no use in my community.
We also have a youth group in our clan and we want to be positive role models to these kids, not a bunch of sailor mouthed ingrates.
It has also proven to provide a better class of recruit for our clan as well.
If you can't control your mouth then you probably can't contol other aspects of your personality. Most likely getting into confrontations with other people and members. Why promote that kind of behavior. I'd rather stifle it from the begining.Comment

Re: Can someone explain the whole logic of language filter?
Well said, Logan.
Some people think the more foul their language in the game, the tougher they are. Doesn't make for an enjoyable game watching obscenities scroll across the screen continuously, nor am I impressed by someone's "ability" to be foul and rude.
Good on the admins who keep the language under control. Thanks.Comment

Re: Can someone explain the whole logic of language filter?
Im unable to understand why is this word so insulting in English? In my language its just a word describing people from black race.. similar enough with the exception of one vocal and not insulting at all..Originally posted by ziggie216We're all playing a game that involves shooting, knifing, nuking each other for enjoyment, but I'm starting to see bunch of pansy server admin that doesn't allow words such as "hell," "balls," "crap," etc... DECIDED SO BY COURT after someone (probably foreigner) tried to sue user of this word here
it makes me laugh when I see this kind of complex
Im fine being a "gringo" or even a "snowwhite"..dont careComment

Re: Can someone explain the whole logic of language filter?
Dude, this language filtering BS pisses me off so extremely I come close to breaking my wrist on my desk chair sometimes. Like when I need to curse out a TKing SOB. Swearing is part my of VOCAB. and I can't help it when talking or typing. It's prejudice if you ask me.Comment

Re: Can someone explain the whole logic of language filter?
So go play on servers that have them off. It's really not that hard.
Is it really worth hurting yourself over someone else's dislike of profanity.
BTW...with you verified my example of "If you can't control your mouth then you probably can't contol other aspects of your personality" by getting so mad that you hurt yourself. People like you are just not wanted in our (My clan's) community.Comment
