Yeah, the patch sometimes ages to get going, if you just wait, and wait, it should eventually start.
Are you using an lcd monitor? If so, make sure you are using the correct resolution and refresh rate, go to: C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\Default\video.con and change the fourth line from the bottom to settings your screen supports.Comment

What is the error message?
Did you update drivers?

Are you clicking the correct shortcut? You should not be clicking any "square" at all. Do this:
Start>All Programs>EA GAMES>BATTLEFIELD 2> Click the 2 and that should do it.Comment

exactly what i do click it boots up like it wants to go, the flash screen pops up that says battlefield 2 wiht a big red 2 behind battlefield, that goes away like th egame is loaded up and ready to open, then a windows error box pops up that says send or dont send error reportComment
