constant but casual gamers: sound off!

Ok so there's this thing called stats.

We all like to look at them, but many choose not to think about it during games.

For this post - I will use "cbcg" for the term "constant but casual gamers"

CBCG's like to see their stats - but cbcg's don't play FOR the stats. No matter if they're in a jet, no matter if they're on the ground.

So what I want this thread to be about is the times when you give up your stats to help your team. It could be a small moment, or it could be an entire round.

    Here's mine:

Kubra Dam. I was in the F18. I (consider myself) a hell-uva good pilot and I could've racked up a bunch of kills bombing random FAV's and such, but instead, I decided to assume escort position for the F15. I followed him around and engaged any air/ground targets that threatened him.

Luckily he was a good pilot and was able to bomb well AND give his bomber dude some good targets. I was able to slow with him while he gave his gunner the ability to lock on targets. He told me his lock-ons were minimal because I was tailing him. (I fly in f12) Whenever I was locked I broke off and engaged (and of course- killed) many of the targets that threatened the lead plane.

I could've made a lot of kills. I could've flwon around doing my own thing. However, I felt that the survival of the F15 was paramount, so I ensured its survivabilty.

and to be honest I thought it was really immersive to tell this guy I was escorting him. It almost put a storyline on the game and put an objective to me as a pilot (since we can't take flags). It was like it was a mission for me to accomplish. It was very immersive and made the game VERY fun

immersive refers to the impression that someone has of being somewhere while, in reality, he is physically in another place.

I really care about my accuracy but at this moment I wanted to help... Half of my team was sneaking by this tank and he was turning to look at them when I starded unloading my pkm and he turned to look at me so I just bunnyhopped aroung giving my team some time to get by. So... I gave up accuracy and a life for the good of my team

Well, when I'm squad leader and I get a heavy group of squad members. I stay behind the enemy flags so that my guys can spawn and cap it. I just don't get the flag points. I also let them grab the tanks and I take the Vodniks so more people could spawn on me. It really helps the team cap major control points.

in a game it means you start to care about the outcome

its a video game - immersive MUST mean something else (until 3d glasses come into play)

i agree - but please see above.

My name is Greg and I'm a casual gamer. I stopped worrying about stats when I realized I couldn't trade points in for cash or sex.

I enjoy hovering 500 meters up in a blackhawk while my squad does HALO jumps onto a flag, I get to work on my helo skills and Im also providing a constant spawn point for my squad.

who gives a rats *** about the next medal, or my rank, too many people are forgetting there morals just to gain that upper hand and its destroying the community

I play as a tactical SL quite a lot.
I stand off and let my boys spawn on me in positions where they've got an advantage. I do the blackhawk AirCav thing (I don't usually set up for Halos tho, much more fun to buzz in low and I do well that way).

When I'm a squady, I'll often act as the decoy while we're cappin flags. I'm the guy the enemy will see/shoot at/kill and expose their position in the process. Then my mates can clean 'em up... hopefully after zappin me back to life.

Hell, sometimes I'll even play a whole round on (*gasp*) DEFENCE!

This is a term I've been plugging a lot lately in all game forums I go to. Whenever people talk about a game being 'realistic' everyone flies into flames "LIEK OMFGUZORS ITS JST A FKN GAAME1!! U WANA FEEL DEATD WEN U GET SHOTSZZ??"

So, while anyone can easily bring up the arguement that nobody actually wants to get shot in the head (and therefore "realism" is bad for games), nobody can for an instant argue that whatever game they're playing, they don't want to get into the mode, they don't want to be drawn into the world they're playing. Immersion. It means the exact same thing but nobody can argue with this word because it's the primary goal of every game.

I'm a CBCG :p too. And I care about kills, not because of points but because I want to feel like I'm doing well. But like our wingman OP, I care more about teamwork. It would be nice if we got a serious point bonus for winning the match (relative to the balance of the teams) so that more people would care about winning as a team instead of winning as a single player.

cbcg here too. Like to try to cap points for teh team by sneaky roundabout manouvres and be the one taking one for the squad (unless SL) when assaulting / defending a flag. It's more about winning a round / pulling off nice tactics than getting sick mad points by LAV25 spawn rape.
