this started happening a few days ago. all of a sudden these strange sounds start coming out of my speakers. i can't really describe them. they don't sound like the annoying dial up sound but its the closest thing i can compare them to. sometimes they continue the whole round. sometimes they quit after a minute or so. after i hear the noises the sounds from my gun are barely audible. all other sounds are ok. i played yesterday and had no problems until my last round. today i'm playing and the first round is ok and every round since then it's happening. it was non stop today. even when i disconnected from the server it was still making the noise until i quit bf2. has anyone else experienced this problem? does anyone know what this could be. thanks.

What sound card do you have?

i have a sb audigy 2 5.1. it's a couple years old. i checked the connections and everything is ok. only happens in bf2. if i'm listening to intunes or using another program with sound it doesn't happen.Comment

i did get a mic recently. i had the mic for about a week without a problem though. it's one of those ones that go on one ear with a boom mic that goes in front of your mouth. do you think that could be it. if it is how can i still use the mic and avoid the sound. i'm not next to the speakers or anything.Comment

I have the same issue. I get this really annoying static and I do not get rifles shots when I fire. I can hear others but when I shoot I can hear just the impacts and brass falling.
It just started at the beginning of this week. I beleive it is being caused by punkbuster. I have not changed or installed anything. This happened to me a few months ago, and after PB rolled a new patch out it went away. I only get it on Punkbuster servers, and not on single player. I have an Audigy 4 card. Some others have posted about this issue as well.Comment

i just played about 6 rounds to see if i could troubleshoot some more. of course it didnt happen this time. guess i'll have to wait. do you have any info on the punkbuster issue possibly causing this. do i need to update pb?Comment

I don't have any info. But the issue is being caused by the NEW version of pb. It auto updates which is why it just started happening. They will need to fix it.Comment

I've been away for a week and had the same weird noises and loss of own weapon sounds.

that happened to me...i figured out every time some one called me my fone would ring and my speaker would make a weird noise...that could be it..probably not tho...Comment

ok. i tried the fix suggested here and seems to be ok now. i played all last night and a few hours today on a few different servers and no prob. before the sound happened quite frequently or didnt stop. it did make a weird sound for about a second or 2 when i played the first round after starting bf2 but never heard another noise and the the gun sounds have been fine. thanks for all the help. prob solved.Comment
