btw, ya as mentioned several times, Gamearena and Internode are our main providers and the ping for US is around 200-250 and EU is about 400 for me, 512 ADSL, so ya, just play locally.

This will help with the slang terms.
What ever you do, DONT make fun of a sport called AFL, bloody Victorians (state which melbourne is in) think of it as a relegion.
You dont have to worry about skippy (kagaroos) in you back yard, there not pet's, but they are pests, we should start shooting them again.
Watch out for Koala's, vicious bloody things, hoop snake's, funnel web and red back spider's and most importantly WATCH OUT FOR DROP BEARS!!!, dead set, DONT stand under trees, unless you'd like your face and head to become seperated.

Yeah I fuigured the AFL out when I got up at 4;30 to watch the grand final, slang I've got down good ya dag.

Mate, your comin to the best place in the world, n i know, i been right the way round. you'll love real footy once you learn the rules, like someone said if you make fun of AFL in melbourne you will be transported to england for the term of ones natural life! :laugh:

GA are always populated, Internode is as well. Never try playing US or UK, they're just too far away. the kiwis have got a few decent servers set up which is nice. ranked, there isnt as many private clan servers, but thats not an issue.

and yes, watch the drop bears, they will literally tear your face from your head.

I did notice that, you guys can come off as quite mean untill you figure out that no he doesn't want you to knock his teeth out he want to have another beer with you.

I wish you guys got snow, I'm going to miss snowboarding in the Rockies. Not like I can do that here in this flat *** country. You can see forever in the Nethrlands.

Also if you go swimming watch out for the sharks, blue bottles (get stung by one of these and start praying), box jellyfish (same deal start praying), blue ringed octopuss (again start praying) any snake you see or worse the ones you don't and get bitten by again (start praying)

Coming from Canada you will like our beer though, none of that weak as piss American beer.

Even the Platypus is poisonous, god how lame. The snake's defense where I come from is a Gardener Snake and the babies slime you with smelly stuff and the older ones just smell.

Canadian beer is stronger than the weak Yankee beer and it's amusing to watch how fast the accidently get too pissed while on holiday.

As for the weather, once it gets to 30C I contemplate suicide so I think Melbourne might be okay. I dislike the bloody heat.

Oh and one thing I will miss is Hockey and not the woman version I mean the five minutes in the box for punching the other dudes lights out hockey.

Don Cherry's Rock em Sock em Hockey is a must see.

mate, 30 degrees n you pass out?? strewth you're gonna be rooted basically anywhere you go, melbourne in january you'll be hitting up to 45!

Snow, we got plenty mate, im in the act (australian capital territory for you uninitiated ones, where the capital city is?) anyways from my verandah i can see the brindabella mountains and into the snowies. we're at 800m, n we get snow every couple of years, the skifields go off with the number of people there.. then again come summer it'll be again, 40 or so degrees..

and yeh, as for the angry part, chances are once you've been punched in the jaw you'll be bloody good mates!

I am looking forward to year round skateboarding like in Vancouver again though!

Australia doesn't look boring just too far from everything and I hate heat and spiders. The first huntsman I see in my bed I'm gonna lose it.

I am looking forward to it though. Australians are like Canadians loud and like to drink. I'm not looking forward to your more strict marijana laws though, I'm from Vancouver and live in Amsterdam at the moment so that will take some adjustment.

As previously mentioned prepare for some crazy weather conditions in Melbourne. Also if your a fairly big Internet user prepare for the worth in Australia, Im guessing you have some crazy 10Mbit Down/Up in the Netherlands with unlimited downloads? Prepare to pay about $70AUD for 1500/256 with 25GB of downloads.

Listen to the guys about AFL, don't watch those tight wearing short pansies, who as soon as they push someone get suspended for weeks on end. Rugby League is the game to watch. As was said no armour,helmet wearing pansies like American football, it will be the closets thing to hockey, violence wise,aggressive contact sport you will get over here. As also was said you just missed out on the State of Origin which is the toughest football in the world.

When you go to the toilet make sure you check it out 1st for redback spiders, you don't wanna get bitten on the butt.

Dakka wise yeah our laws suck, cept in South Australia, but hey its still everywhere easy to get and the quality is very good, but expect to pay a bit for it. You got your foils or sticks, sappies or satchies and ozzies. If you ask for an ozzie you'll end up with a nice big bag :laugh: You just won't be able to walk into your local cafe like you can in the Dam.

VB is my preferred beer, that and Tooheys are the most comonly drunk but as someone said state to state they have their own. Crownies or Crown Lager is a premium beer and made by the same company Carlton United Breweries as VB, but I still prefer my VB's, I never get hangovers with VB's compared to other beers. Then when you buy beers you have cases,cartons or slabs depending where you live is what you ask for. Then they come in different sizes, twisties or small boys are the smallest @ 250/285ml, stubbies are 375ml, and then you have longies or long necks @ 700/750ml or cans @ 375ml but nobody in their right mind drinks cans anymore.

When you say mate, you need to extend it to maaaaaate, you'll get the hang of it.

Those bloody AFL haters dunno just how rough real footy is! worst sport for injuries in the country! its rough n tumble, n you'll be amazed at how quick it can go!

drink-wise, tooheys new, carlton draught (check THIS OUT!: www.bigad.com.au), and Tooheys Extra Dry are the best value, otherwise go with crownies!

dope wise, mate Canberra has ridiculously relaxed laws, its also the one place in the country where porn is legally sold, made, blah blah,.... biggest money industry is the adult entertainment in all its forms.. and its the only place in the country where you can legally buy and use crackers.

Huntsmen, mate you havent seen one till you find one you can hear walking on the wall. fair dinkum, there must be somethin in the water here. we got one pinned here at home, body is almost 2 inches long!

what the others have said about footy, even league, is right though - no pussys.
