Infantry only will be awesome on Warlord, Ghost Town, and all the night maps. If you dont like infantry then theres about 1000 other servers for you to play on.
it's madness to remove all vehicles though
I would think I would enjoy IO as long as I don't have far to walk - for example IO would rock on Wake IF there was some form of transport
This won't detract from the infantry only experience, jeeps are laughably weak and any class can deal effectively with them and it will also keep Spec Ops, Engineer, AT, assault and even the sniper relevant. As it stands the 1.4 b2 IO version means that unless you choose medic or support, you are screwed and all the large maps bar Karkand and Sharqi and a few spec forces maps are obsolete.
How cool would Daqing be with just transport vehicles and choppers? Or Wake or Dalian?
I don't know - I lose more faith in DICE to do the right thing every day
The only reason I bought this game was because I heard it had pretty much everything and I love it. Getting owned from time to time is just part of the game. I hate the UAV crap though...I like to sneek around but that thing just takes the fun out of it. They should of just made it like a spawn capture type deal where if you capture that spawn point then you get the uav. infantry only maps would be ok to take a break from the helos. They need to make a stronger AT or even an AA rocket as a weapon unlock then it wouldnt be to bad.
I think Infantry Only wouldn't work on Surge or Iron Gator. There would be too much walking needed for Surge. It would be too hard for the MEC special forces to get on the carrier. Other than that, it would probably work.
Disagree - infantry only is the worst idea DICE ever came up with. This isn't Counterstrike and if you want it to be, go play it.
I would certainly enjoy it if all the people who make these ridiculous counterstrike comparisons would go and play counterstrike, as then we wouldnt have to constantly hear about it, conjoined with your ceaseless whining. If you like the idea of running around a maze, and hoping that the enemies dont have better hitbox hacks than you, go for it, and let us not hear of CS again!
Ive played battlefield since 1942 and most of its total conversion mods. People whine about vehicles on all maps, but on some their complaints are actually justified. On mashtuur, when I get a tank (which is extremely rare, as i dont seek them out, and dont tk to get them) I kill about 20 people before dying each time.
Fun when youre in the tank....but not when youre on the other side of it, which is 99 percent for me. I almost always die either surrounded by enemy infantry, by an enemy heavy vehicle, or surrounded by enemy heavy vehicles.
Take the heavy vehicle out of the equation, and suddenly I die a lot less.
Im fine when EVERYONE has tanks or helicopters or aircraft (which I all pilot on vehicle maps) but not when 3/64 people have tanks and LAVs, and tk to get them the whole round, which is what happens on karkand and mashtuur now.
Yes, battlefield is about vehicles. But these vehicles sometimes get completely out of control and ruin awesomely fun firefights, which artillery also does.
Basically, I enjoy playing vehicle combat on vehicle maps, such as operation smokescreen, or dragon valley.
But on warlord, karkand, or mashtuur, tanks and artillery ruin the experience.
I would never consider playing an infantry only version of a vehicle map such as wake or operation smokescreen.
to complain about any vehicle with the exception of the jets in BF2 is embarassing
if you can't handle a tank on the battlefield you suck, simple as that
Agreed. Just this morning I was playing on a sf warlord 16 player 64 map and went like 36 and 7 on foot...it's fun blowing up apc's and tanks with c4 because you're right next to them and it just shows how bad they suck  .
Worst case, spawn as AT and use 2 rockets to take them out, not hard.
As for the discussion at hand, vehicles don't really plague sf maps like it does with vanilla IMHO. I have played more sf than any of the booster packs or vanilla and if you can't take out the helos on ghost town or iron gator or surge and MD then you shouldn't be playing. A transport vehicle can take down a attack helo quick NTM with the use of AA missles it really isn't too hard. I enjoy SF because of it's variety and honestly IO will only make maps like iron gator and maybe ghost town more interesting but kill the rest.

Ya, vehicles are not the focus in SF. So they seem pretty minor. It comes down to SF was DiCE's answer to CS on the drawing board. Might have not worked out like that. Infantry only Well, that is not BF if you ask me.
DICE doesnt need any answer to CS or call of duty 2.
Chances are, if you think either CS or Call of duty 2 are better, you probably play the other game more.
Seriously, I started bf1942 with the secret weapons online demo, and it blew away every other online experience I have ever had (before that)
Call of duty and other rip offs dont stand a chance. People who like CS and games like quake and doom would never admit BF style is more open ended, plain more fun when it works.
Not that it always works, but it will at least work on the total conversion mods.
Heck, only reason im even writing here instead of playing is because i have to wait for the HD projector im getting this weekend.
I'd atleast like to see the transport vehicles stay. Ghost Town would be pretty sweet without all the helo, tanks, and apcs. All the other maps it really wouldn't matter one way or the other. Can't imagine the sub map without any vehicles.
oh... yeah... takes a lot of skill to sit in a tank and mow down infantry. Only reason you losers HATE the idea of having an OPTION is because you know everybody will be on the IO servers, cutting your points down a bit.
Counterstrike, while a crappy game IMHO, remains the all time greatest multi-player FPS of all time. There are still more people still playing original CS and CS:S than play ALL BF titles combined. Doubt me? Look it up.
Infantry only BF is the BEST of both worlds. You CAN'T whore... because everyone can be killed equally by every weapon. Rather than have some hoe sitting in a tank... screwing up a PERFECTLY good infantry battle. Same losers that hate infantry battles just LOVE the artillery. Heavy vehicles and artillery are the only two aspects of SF that need to go.
Just wait and see. There will be more Infantry Only servers than regular ones. We will actually be able to fight it out... without getting blasted by some stat whore in a tank.
Here is the thing that I cannot understand. SF was suppose to be focused on INFANTRY.. yet all the vehicle whores have to insist that it be JUST LIKE vanilla. GO PLAY VANILLA!!!!!!! and leave the infantry to us! fools.

BF has always and always will be about combined arms. Beside, since when do vehicles own on any map? As far as I'm concerned, they're targets and easy kills.
:yay:

When SF first came out, I kinda hoped for.. you know... special forces, covert ops kinda playmode. Imo IO should have been implemented in SF from day one. Thats what SF should have been all about.
I was thinking - IO means no vehicles right? So what about Iron Gator? Are the boats gone as well? I don't like the idea of swimming over to the carrier.
