Set BF2 to run on one processor, not 2.

I reinstalled BF2, and used the full patch. Guess what?
Same thing, CTD's, connection problems and all that stuff.

I set the "AUTO-READY" thing on; I don't know if it's merely a placebo thing, but it seems to be crashing less.

        I have a Athlon 3000+ XP (single-core, 32-bit, nforce2 stuff)

I CTD if I click the join button on the first time entering a new server. After the first round, I can click on the join button without problems.

In order to not CTD every time on the first join of any server, I have to wait about 30s after the Join game button is available, then the game kicks you to the map view. After that point, I can choose my guns/squad/etc and things are fine.

I just have to stop myself from clicking on the Join button that first time.

Just my experience to deal with this.

Thats actually true for me aswell. As soon as the join button appears I wait at least 15 secs, then push the escape button to join game. When i do that, my CTD upon joining servers are 0.

Its a temporary solution, but we still need a fix.

          cheers

Restart your computer and open Notepad. Write letters to everyone in Nigeria and shut it down without saving. Open Bf2, join a server and let the map load while peeling 200 grapes and placing them in an egg carton in alphabetical order. Once the game starts throw your computer out the window and buy another one when 1.4 comes out. Write a long thank you letter to EA but don't mail it.

I agree, but this method does seem to atleast decrease the number of CTD's
