Possible solution for CTD's?

Ok, so one of my friends and I were testing out something when clicking the join game. We conducted the following "tests": Yes I know we have no life :P

Tried 15 times for each category:

Waiting 5 seconds after Join Game Button appears: 5 crashes

Waiting 10 seconds after Join Game Button appears: 3 crashes

Waiting 15 seconds after Join Game Button appears: NO CRASHES!

I also noticed that when the button comes up the music gets stuck for like 2 seconds, almost everytime the game crashed when we clicked join game at that exact moment.

What do you guys think? Have you ever tried this? Do you think this is just a coincidence?

It is random, despite all your strange findings. It is not reproducable at will (at least for consumers).

But it should be fixed in 1.4...

Sometimes I will have the game loading for 5 minutes while I am doing something else and then I come back to my computer and it has been sitting there for a while saying "Join Game" and it still crashes a majority of the time.

Try this:
Log on to your account. Let the complete BF2 intro play through, go to favourites. Join a favourite. Half way through loading disconnect and close BF2. Shut down your computer. Restart your computer and open Notepad. Write letters to everyone in Nigeria and shut it down without saving. Open Bf2, join a server and let the map load while peeling 200 grapes and placing them in an egg carton in alphabetical order. Once the game starts throw your computer out the window and buy another one when 1.4 comes out. Write a long thank you letter to EA but don't mail it.

I can honestly say I haven't had a CTD in weeks.... but that's probably mostly because I haven't played since the day 1.3 was released.

I started that night four points shy of First Sergeant. Thanks to the wonderful changes EA made with the patch, I'm still three points shy and haven't bothered playing since. I'm really hoping 1.4 fixes things. 1.22 was actually stable and playable - sure it had glitches and bugs that we hated, but it was reasonable... I wish they could just roll back to that, but keep the AF compatibility introduced with the 1.3 patch... Never going to happen though.

**** man you got one point?! Well we all have bad days, i once logged on, got -7 for crashing a helicopter into a tree and then the game crashed. Needless to say i couldnt be fcuked to reload it.

Lol - I don't think I'd reload the game after that either... Although I'd probably laugh... once I'd finished smashing up the computer!

I remember being in a BH on Wake at the start of the round, taking fire as we headed towards the Airfield flag. We looked like we were going to make it, but then the pilot bailed and the chopper immediately blew up (lucky escape for the pilot who timed it just right). Somehow that gave me a suicide, a team vehicle damage, and three team kills for the other passengers on board! I wasn't amused. What made things worse was that the pilot was my little brother!

Heheh. Yeh its funny how these things are incredibly hilarious to anyone else around, but to you its like a pure rage descends on you, as if the entire world has done you wrong and you must avenge it with violence. I usually hit my cupboard when that happens, and then regret it two seconds later when my hand looses function. Anyway, i hope you learnt a valuable lesson from all that- never trust a brother! I have two of the little bastards and I dont trust em for a second!

I noticed that if I loose a server connection while playing I have a 90%+ chance of crashing to destop upon reloading.

Man I can't wait for 1.4...

Hey Sacramento, what version of the 1.3 patch are you using? A few people say that the client incremental is more prone to crash servers. I'm not sure how that would work but, they seem pretty convinced.

One thing i've noticed is that if I press escape, instead of join game, I don't have the CTD upon joining a server. I've heard that from others as well.
