BF2 Combat: Tour of Duty

Lo all

Has anyone signed up for this? Any good? I'm pretty tempted but firstly am in the UK so would need servers local to me and secondly, cannot really play at fixed times so might not be able to participate in scheduled matches. I only really play an hour or so max a day.

I've read all their FAQ's, etc but can't really understand what it's all about, plus their servers never seem to have people on them.

We just had one of the creators of BF2 Combat 'Tour of Duty' as a guest for a roundtable interview on Battlefield Podcast Episode 13. We also just signed up for 'Tour of Duty' and have started going through basic training and some of the schools that they offer. I am thinking about signing up for the Tour. Don't have enough time though, but I feel that TOD has a larger community then 21CW. The cost is hella cheap to me, I mean it breaks down to $3 a month. Everquest and WoW cost more I believe, and I have a feeling that BF3 could be pay to play too.

I just want to know, can you use your unlocks in the game. I have not talked to the some of the recruiters yet about enlisting, and I want find out more info.

I have been a member of both 21cw uses a mod and is free. Both have thier advantages. 21CW has opened up signups for thier next tour so you can get in at the start.

I was thinking about joining the EU actually. It is kinda hard because their FAQ does not have all the little questions I want to know about each force.

Do the ground units get all the unlocks? If you are in the Air Corp, do you see ground combat time? What is different from the Army and the Marines in the US? In the real Army, the Cav has Helos, so are you not allowed to fly in the Army, even if you are qualified for it? Are you locked into a kit when you enlist?

I am in BF2 Combat and it was pretty fun. I signed up for 3 months for $10. The price is cheap and it keeps a lot of the little kids out. I stopped playing right after patch 1.3 came out, because BF2 Combat is played on unranked servers and 1.3 stopped unranked servers from using unlocks.

Now, I know a lot of people say "Unlock noob!" or "Wussy," but I play AT exclusively, and I just don't know how to use rifles or SMGs correctly. Some people told me to play engineer for the pump shotgun (which I love) but then I dont get the missile launcher and that is half the fun.

Good news though; the 1.4 patch will allow unranked server to use unlocks, so BF2 Combat will have unlocks once again.

Basically, you join an army (I think there are 6) and you fight against one of the other armies on battle day. Battle days are on Thursday and Sunday and pretty much last all day and all evening. If you join one of the 2 U.S. teams, you will ALWAYS play as US when you fight. However, they mod the maps so you get to play both sides. Same thing goes for Chinese and MEC.

I also think they let you join their TS to have some people explain it, but you would probably have to ask on their forums for a temporary password. One of the officers in any given army should be able to help you with any more questions.

Hey, I appricate your time. I am concerned about how much time I will actually be able to contribute, if it lasts all Sunday. It is funny, I love playing MEC, but I would rather be MEC with my unlocks when I need them most. You are 100% right about it not being right to not have an unlock as AT. I would think the Chinese team would get walked over by the enemy armor because they have no self-defense weapons like the DAO.

I know if I join, I have a friend that is going to go in with me. Funny how many guys join the service with their buddies.

What is this about switching sides? So, even if I join up EU, I will be forced to switch over to the MEC for a couple rounds? Hmm...
