Someone tell me why this isn't a one shot kill.

For those who don't know what a .50 caliber round is....

The relatively tiny one on the bottom is a 5.56x45 - what the M16, M4, F2000, etc fires.

The bad boy at the top is a .50 caliber, in real life it will punch a hole the diameter of a fist through an engine block. I know what you're probably thinking..why is that cannon not a one shot kill in this game?

I guess they did not want ot make another Counter-Strike type of sniper rifle. I know that the .50 will shread about anything in RL, but not in the videogame world =D

It would mean the M95 and the PKM would be the only weapons on the battlefield. That would be boring.

in reality a .50 cal bullet would blow a limb off with ease... bf2 is a video game which they made fun by balancing out the weapons, there fore .50 cal bullets arent 1 hit kills.

Balance. As revolution has already said we don't want a CS:S style one shot one kill, BF2 would most likely turn into a sniper fest if that were there case.

            Damage wise...yes.

But then again if all of the weapons were adjusted to actual performance, the fire rate of the P90 and its 5.7x28 SS190 armor piercing round in a 50 round clip would rule the close quarter combat.

            Info on the FN P90:

            Caliber: 5.7x28mm SS190
Weight: 2.54 kg empty; 3 kg loaded with magazine with 50 rounds
            Lenght: 500 mm
            Barrel lenght: 263 mm
Rate of fire: 900 rounds per minute
            Magazine capacity: 50 rounds
            Effective range: 200 meters

The FN P90 submachine gun (SMG) was developed in the late 1980s as a defensive weapon for the troops whose primary activities does not include small arms - vehicle and tank crew members, artillery crews etc. Standard pistols and SMGs chambered for pistol rounds were proved ineffective against enemy soldiers, wearing armour (bulletproof) vests, so FN Herstal developed a new round with enhanced penetration - the SS190. This round looks like scaled downt 5.56mm NATO round and forces the pointed, steel core bullet to the 600-700 meters per second at the muzzle, thus being capable to defeat standart CRISAT helmets and armour vests at reasonable distances (50-100 meters).

The first time I held a .50 cal bullet in my hand it was weird. You don't normally picture bullets beings so darn big.

Try a 14.5mm bullet, then you'll find who's the boss.

Shooting at ppl with HMG is such evil behavior.......

Isn't that the same caliber Bruce Willis used with his automatic gun in the movie "The Jackal", or was it even bigger? Remember when he shot that poor guy's arm off.. ha, ha. The poor guy was Jack Black, by the way. Not that it makes him less poor.

Bah, artillery shells are just big bullets when you think of it. The artillery is a huge gun itself in a way.

Not really, artillery fires shells. If you want to compare it to a hand held weapon, go with the M203/GP-30.

I honestly do agree the .50 is a big assed shell, and I groaned and moaned when I found I could shrug off a hit from a .50BMG in the game.

One thing I think they should have done is used a .338 Lap Mag. I do agree this would be stepping on CS's toes too much, but this seems to be where the world is headed at the moment.

The .338 Lap Mag delivers superior ballistics to the 7.62x51mm Nato, and can deliver a killing blow through Mil Spec armour at 1000m. The 7.62 in the hands of a "normal" sniper is maxed at around 800m, and then it's going waaay slowly.

They should have made the vehicle guns M240's or the like. While they won't do the same sort of damage as a .50 to vehicles, they could have coded this differently. Simply make the guns work better against vehicles. Not totally true to life, but it's a damn sight more ralistic to shoot the crap out of a light vehicle with a 7.62 than to walk, or make that bunny hop and jump/dive twist, away from a .50 hit.

As for the P-90? Well it is a semi decent weapon system, but it DOES only have the ballistics of a .22 Hornet. It is a very underpowered round, who's only claim to fame is it can penetrate the armoru that stops ammo from comparatively sized weapons, mostly 9x19mm SMG's and .45ACP SMG's. Any 5.56mm in the game will punch the same armour, and do it at longer ranges.

If they had to model everything as IRL, then the Engineer would be neigh unstoppable with his pump shotgun. The guy in BF2 pumps it about 1/4 as fast as it can be done. I will admit he reloads a damn sight faster than i do, but still. A face full of 00 buckshot will ruin anyones day.

Sundiver, on a side note, didn't Bruce use a 23mm cannon for that picce?

well the M95 yes, the PKm is 7.62 soviet round, and if they wanted a real bad boy they could include the steyr IWS2000 or above, i think its 15.2mm calibre (then again its anti-material not anti-infantry but it sure would make a mess of sum1)

this is a game. its real nice to know that jus becos there are guns firing .5 rounds in the game means u dont die instantly. i really appreciate the balance.

and of course if they are a good enough sniper with the M95 it would be a HS which is 1 shot 1 kill

i personally woulda loved it if they had made it a one shot kill weapon, perhaps then i could get my basic knife badge with all the snipers in their scopes!
