They are different cartridges with the same bullet diameter.

These guys are talking about the .50 BMG, which is the round in the M2HB machine gun, as well as in the M95 sniper rifle, both of which are impossibly nerfed in this arcade shooter we all know and love, called BF2.

You're thinking of the .50 AE (Action Express), which is a much much smaller cartridge, but what can be confusing is that the diameter of the bullet is .50 inch, just like the larger cartridge.

In terms of power, these two rounds couldn't be more different: the .50 AE fires a 300 grain bullet at about 1350 feet/second, which means that it generates about 1250 ft/lbs of energy at the muzzle. The standard M33 .50 BMG cartridge is hugely more powerful: a 668 grain bullet moving out at 2900 feet/second, which means it's carrying 12,500 ft/lbs of energy. Scary powerful, far more than could be controlled in a handgun, assuming you had a pistol large enough and with a long enough barrel.

BTW - the OP put up a picture of a .50 APIT round, which is really interesting, in that it's an armor-piercing incendiary tracer. This means that it'll punch through obstacles a bit better because of its steel core, and once it's hit something, it will smolder and hopefully start a fire, while the tracer compound in the base will allow you to watch its trajectory after you've fired it. It's not like Hollywood, but it's good against vehicles. Someone else will mention the Raufoss round next, which is much more Hollywood in terms of terminal effects.

i rekn the one shot kill should be in, within reason of course. havn another awp like weapon is stupid especially when u can simply run jump into wateva position an take a quick shot. the kills possible with an awp in cs is dam right rediculous and having those Same capabilitys in bf2 would be well not right. id prepose making the oneshotkill only possible if like cs's awp yes like cs's awp was only in the gut, chest or head the rest takes two. could even make it so that the snipers have to adjust focus on their scope like a max an min zoom, if the target is too close its gonna be fuzzy and of course a dodgey shot this will also make players have to take time with their targets would think that they would also have to rely on steath alot more. what do ya rekn?

Shmed, I'm not sure if that is English, but I do agree with what I could understand; that's why any such weapon ability, would have to come with decent ‘minus points’.

If the sniper can kill in a single shot, he should also have penalties to stop him/her doing so at will, like in the 360, or as you point out the AWP in CS (never played that though).

I like the sniping in America’s Army; you have to setup your bi-pod to get the best shot, and also have to deal with scope steadiness, waiting for the shot at the height or drop of your breathing.

Anyway, like I said, this game is an arcade shooter; it has been ‘nerfed’ to keep the element on fun, so a one shot kill is unlikely to be added officially. Best we can hope for is one of the mods add something similar to the hidden kits in DC…

          Scort.
