Re: Bf2 nickname, how did you get it?

I've never been a great nickname-inventor, but this is my best yet (you can imagine how bad the others were... ). At the time BF2 came out, I was recently back from the International Fleet Review and the Trafalgar celebrations in Portsmouth, so that gave me the Horatio (Hamlet's friend helped a bit too). Bloom came from the novel Ulysses, where Leopold Bloom is an Irishman of Hungarian Jewish descent, and I am a Hungarian with some Jewish ancestry, who is really fond of Ireland :)

I was nicknamed Hotrod when I was 7 by some gas station employees. Years later, I got a game called Diablo. However, Hotrod was taken...so I made my name TheHotrod.

Years after that, I founded a clan for StarCraft...the Reapers. Our tag was (RP). My name was...............(RP)TheHotrod. Eventually, I left the clan and moved on. However, I dropped the ( and ) and kept the Rp to keep my name unique (I was sure that TheHotrod would be taken online eventually). Instead of having 3 big letters RPTheHotrod....which seems to run into eachother too much, I simply made the p lowercase.

          There you have it.

          RpTheHotrod

Well, EC- is my clan tags. I carried this name over to BF2 from BHD. I got the name Paulus from the oddest source. The History Channel. I was watching a doc on The Battle of Staligrad and the name General Friedrich Paulus came up. I needed a good name so used it. Nothing special. I was originally going to use Tj-Strikeforce. But thats absolutly retarded.

It's been an online moniker of mine for years. Aspartamania that is, derived from the sugar substitute Aspartame which had a bit of contreversy during the late 80s due to links with cancer. Donald Rumseld came out and defended it. Plus it just sounds sort of Spartan, 'cept sugary. Or something.

In 1980 working with Novell networks, I played the lan flying game that came with the old 2.x version of the software using my first initial "B". The other admins started calling me "KillerB" so I started using that name. I used this name for Doom, Wolfenstien, Rott, Decent, etc.

In 1997 while again playing some lan games, we also started playing Quake over the internet. There was already a popular player named killerb so I started looking for another name. At our lan games, I always brought a bunch of good cigars for the guys and I was always smoking one. Eventually someone that did not know my real name was asking for the "Cigar_Man", so I started using that for game play.

In 2004, I played bf1942 desert combat as "Stogie" with a different clan cause my team did not play DC competitively. On their TeamSpeak server, most called me "Cig" but they had another player named "Cig" so they started calling me Stogie. When BF2 was released, I started playing it with my original team and went back to Cigar_Man. I like using Stogie better, but I have been with my team since late 2000 so I stay with Cigar_Man.

Um. . . I guess I was just bored and I needed a good online nickname that wasn't generic like "Killer#####" or something. . . I love it. It's original but I get a lot of crap from 10 year olds about "ewww Bio has poopie in his diapey!!one1" and stuff like that.

back when i was playing counterstrike my name was G-Man, then i joined a server - US WestCoast server: KillSm1 here!
so i thought it was pretty ingenious to shorten: Kill Some one so then boom! my nickname for 3 years now

The 63 in BlueBunny63 refers to my birth year. Oh my. Now you know why my stats suck.

The BlueBunny has nothing to do with the ice cream... it's more of an inside joke among the people who work for me, from when I used to play MOH on our LAN a few years ago, using names like DickCheney or ThatBastard, or my personal favorite, BlueBunny.

When I signed up for BF2 last year, I saw that everyone was using names with words like "Death" and "Demon" and "69" or "666" in them, so I thought that something like BlueBunny63 would be a nice counterpoint.

Others have since jumped onto the "frivilous name" bandwagon, or were already there, but I see way more silly names now than those "I take myself extremely seriously because I'm 14 and full of raging hormones" names.

Re: Bf2 nickname, how did you get it?

Was sim racing and using various monikers for that but with nothing permenent. Nicks were not very essential for that genre.

Started playing Rainbow 6, under Jason Bourne (years before Matt Damon made him famous, I'm a big Ludlum fan), or Yuri. I also used Legion for awhile in a RUMBLE (early TWL type set up) clan called POT (POWER OF TERROR).

Apparently Yuri was (man still be) a very common Korean name. RB6 and the later RogueSpear series were very popular in Korea. Almost nightly a young Korean boy playing under a "rambo" type name would ask me if I was Korean.

Not that there's anything wrong with the name or having it, but it seems I was giving some people false hopes there was another person of Korean heritage playing on any particular server. Not to mention it did start getting aggrivating.

Back then the reaction to Jason Bourne from anyone other then a Ludlum reader was, "who?", which sadly was most people. Clancy drools, Ludlum rules. Yuri wasn't working out too well either.

So I picked a name that would fit both the sim-racing and FPS genres, and came up with disfigured.

I've been disfigured now for quite a few years, it's essentially my online persona. So if you knew a disfigured from the RB6/Rogue/Ghost Recon era, it's me. Or from the the Nascar series , and Grand Prix Legends sims, it's me. Or even BF42, it's me.

And I snagged it with no modification for BF2.

It's a good name if I do say so myself. It's a bit defeatist since it alludes to being hit or harmed. But I think of it more from grisly old warrior type angle. Or a race accident victim who still driving type of angle.

I am sorry for any disrespect to someone who actually is disfigured, that's my only regret in picking it as a nick.
