Yah, I think it is a bug or unrecognized characters (to the BR format) that cause this, and not hacking.
Nametag hacks exist on the client side, the client basically gets spoofed to thinking that certain things are supposed to happen and the server is not enforcing some of those things. In not so technical terms.
BR files are created with just vector information and some data things (like nametags) and when you dl the file and play it back, your not actually replaying a movie, your game is basically reading a movie script and acting it out to you on your game, if that makes any sense. Every move you make has it's position recorded X amount of times per second, when you replay it, it takes that info and moves your model to all the appropriate positions that you made. So it would never know that you changed something on the client side, as it only records what actually got sent to the server (where you were, when you shot, where the bullets went) etc.
