was told today - if you 'spot' an enemy and he turns white
it is the commander
I have not played much commander lately
(got all the commander awards - I let the younger guys do it)
anyway - I do recall seeing a white dot on occasion
but never paid much attention to it
so . . . any significance to the color?

I've heard of that before. From personal experience that seems to be true, but I can't give a 100% guarantee.

It's true 100%

In 21CW we occasionaly hunt the enemy commander because it is the best way of keeping his assets down.

It's the commander, and I can garentee that. Sometimes white dots appear on the screen that are your own team, but that is because you have a squad selected and they just are highlighted.

But spotting an enemy that is a white dot, not a red, is the enemy commander. I know this because many occassions I have spotted them...then took my time to go way out to where they were and knife them :p. When you get to them and they are just sitting there, or laying there...looking blindly at you...you know they are too busy in the command mode to actually see you and say "Oh look a guy right in front of me, better shoot them"

Have often spotted a guy who I THOUGHT was the enemy commander
based on non- movement and where he was hiding on the map
I do NATO recall it turning white on a regular basis
but time to confirm

This "commander is a white dot" thing has been going around the forums for a year now, and I don't know. If it's true, it's glitchy because I've spotted numerous commanders over the past year, and never have they turned white.

What does turn a dot white is selecting the player in the Squad menu. This allows you to find a specific team mate on the map.

Confirmed. I figured this out in the early days of BF2.

If true (without a SS, I'll take no one's word for it :p), it's glitchy because just yesterday I spotted the enemy commander and his dot was the normal red, not white.


But again, it is a fact that clicking on any teammate's name in the squad list (any squad, not just yours) will turn that player's minimap dot white. Try it and see.

Maybe it's just one of those bugs, like when enemy units are spotted as green. I've spotted commanders, and it's always red. Actually, I've never seen the spotted white before...
