Cheat or not?

Do you think that using some program to draw a crosshair is cheating? Some time ago a guy posted a pic of a cheater who "was owning everybody and shooting through walls". His "hack" turned out to be an additional crosshair drawn by this program:

Usually Punkbuster doesn't give a **** if you have a crosshair or not, but some servers use so called "Auto-MBL" by Punksbusted.com which does care about it. Their master ban list is full of people banned for using things like RedDot.exe, which is a pretty advanced program indeed. It even detects the resolution your running and can display a clock on screen (pretty handy, huh?)

Now I don't want to hear things like "snipers dont have crosshair while unzoomed", cause they have a minimum deviation of five unzoomed, which makes them completly useless without zoom. There are two things where one can gain advantage over other players with such a program. One is the rocket launcher and another is bunnying when you can aim, even though you can't shoot. No matter what, it definetly doesn't increase your "skill" artificially.

So what do you think? Is a general crosshair equivalent to wallhacks and stuff? Should admins consider removing Auto-MBL because of this? Or is a dot drawn with a pencil cheat or what? (Some screens even allow you to draw a dot on screen on their settings!).

So the crosshair only helps when hopping or using the anti-tank rocket, i would still consider that kinda hacking, but not nearly as much as the bigger hacks.

No who cares.. Aiming is aiming you can aim right? If you can bad luck I feel bad for the people who use these programs very sad.. Just play the game it's a game your supposed to have fun with it.. People see this as fun but I don't. I enjoy tight and hard games where everyone does their best though these games are rare..

Can't imagine how people using crap like this would be fun.. Someone told me If you don't want to be detected by punkbuster just grab some tape and tape a sticker on your screen with a +.. Of course PB cant' scan in front of your screen or something for Tape...

Really sad..

Yeah I would consider it a cheat, but i use right click scrop/zoom, so it doesnt really matter.

Yea lol, that would be funny, and it would actually kinda work, just go into single player, get a weapn with a cross hair, get some colored tape, cut it as thinas possible, and put it where the crosshairs are, or just put a dot there.

It's an additional running program that modifies the visuals of the game. It's a cheat. IMO

Just because it doesn't provide much of an advantage doesn't mean it's not.

You have to draw the line some where and that's where you do it.

Some would argue that Vent and TS on servers that don't have VOIP isn't considered cheating but people do it, but it's not an excuse for every other program that comes out. This is cutting a fine line that opens the flood gates for just about anything.

can just make a dot of tipex on your screen :). people use xhair programs because the game maker doesnt give them options to change them, as it is you can drive a lorry through the middle of the current ones.

This should've never been an issue in the first place. Like many other FPS, DICE should've included multiple unzoomed crosshair types for the player to choose from. In that screenshot you can see how horrible that crosshair is, and while you can see your current deviation you can't see the exact center aim point. I can understand the logic behind keeping the crosshair out of alternate firing modes however, as in order to get that accuracy bonus you should have to deal with whatever modified ironsights they give you.

To respond to the OP thoigh, drawing it with a 3rd party utility is cheating, as light as the cheat may be. A cheat is a cheat. It's a third party utility and it does give you an advantage (especially with AT rockets) and using wonky looking ironsights.

Really DICE is a simple cross or dot style crosshair too much to ask for? It's pretty much a standard in any other FPS game.

Yea, in americas army they got all kinds of crosshairs, a crosshair, a dot, a dot with circle around it, a dot with circle around it and crosshair and many more, and customizable HUD colors.

Well, its true, its a cheat. However I personally wouldnt give a ****. I use a black marker to draw additional HUD lines to my screen for helo and jet flight. So if I used this program, for me it would make the screen look nicer, and for you, it wouldnt change jack squat.

So, whats the name of the "hack", I need it to enhance the horrible crosshair colours in SWAT4 which fade away in high gamma, and Id love to use it in BF2, to set a marker for my most commonly used bomb drop.

EDIT: Then again, if PB MBL raises a red flag, it would be stupid to use it in BF2 I guess...

EDIT2: Hmm, reddot.exe was found when I searched Google.com in a well known hack site... where SWAT4 hackers get their stuff... Ouch.

Slugfly you couldnt do a **** as the OP said because the awful deviation. I dont draw anything on ym screen and I have no trouble guiding rockets unzoomed.

close up you can get no zoom shots quite easily without a crosshair, ive had loads of them, u go round a corner and faced with a guy about to shoot you, but you no zoom him right in the head, funny as **** :laugh:

just make sure theyre in the centre of your screen.. easy.
