    Body armour, useful or not

Dose any one notice the effect of the bulletproof in the game? Do you think it protect you?

I don't feel much difference having armour or not, except it's so heavy that make you get exhausted very easily.

IMO, aromour should be able to protect you against most of pistol (SMG as well) and shotgun rounds. and makes the grenades fragment much less lethal. But rifles are supposed to just ignore them and get through.

    What do you guys think?

bulletproof works sometines, like a shot to the chest damages more to an engineer rather than an assault, There is not much body armor useful in the game. I would think the chest area is the most armored. They are basically all the same to me.

you probably dont realise how much bulletproofs help you. its the difference between winning ansd losing in head on firefights - you have more life. if you come out in red health, then bulletproofs saved your A$$ - now u jsut gotta try and find a freinfly medic who knows what their doing

Yes I see its affect all the time. Use the single pump shotgun and you will see it too. A sniper or Medic will do a cartwheel backwards with one pump to the upper body less then 5 meters. Assault, engi and AT guys will take that shot most of the time and keep coming. But a second pump anywhere on them and they go down. Finally the support guys will take two shots from this range almost all the time. A third one will bring them down. They take three when prone. I use the single pump all the time. And I run away when I see support guys. I stand almost no chance. But I laugh at snipers and medics.

After 2 seasons in CAL-main for BF2 I never noticed much of a difference in classes body armor.

I would chose my class for the weapon that I needed for the situation and not the armor that the class has.

IMO the best body armor in the game is G36E plus self heal.

For snipers it makes a difference, a shot with a L96/M24 will not bring you down to 2 bars health, you infact have about 1/4 of health left instead. You overall take more bullets to die, especially more noticable with SMG's/Pistols.

You notice it alot more in small 16 player matches. Besides, what with everyone and their pet monkey being a medic, all you have to do is use their kit to re-heal yourself and use your old kit again, badabing badaboom, Full armor toting assualt dude ready to go. Who needs freindly medics?

Edit: LOL (comment above me :P)

Armored targets only withstand 1 more bullet before dieing than non armored.
(not accounting for a head shot)

Something like a shotgun should do a minimal damage to armored body; they are not loaded with hunky slugs, right? 9mm bullets should be denied most of the case. Cause that's what the bulletproof is designed to be, right?

The armor is just too heavy. I think it does more harm then good to me. A fully loaded rifle weights 8 or 9 pounds. Why should a 15 pounds armor tire me that much?

Re: Body armour, useful or not

Yeah, play with the pump action and you will notice who has and who has not got armour.

Blue Piglet you are right. While it doesn't say anywhere what level of armour is in the game, soft body armour will generally stop 9mm, .45ACP, .40S&W and 9mm Makerov (as well as a coupe other "handgun" catridges, as well as 12 guage buackshot and sometimes slugs.

While the vest might prevent a slug from penetrating, it is likely that there will be damage done by the force of the impact deforming the vest to such an extent you get injured.

However in BF2 terms all 3 pistols, the PP-19, the MP5, the Chinse SMG, the M11-87, the Sagia, the Jackhammer and the DAO-12 should all have seriously reduced damage to the vests. The P-90 should punch this with ease though, as will all the rifles.

Step things up to Level III and Level III+ vests with anti rifle plates and almost all the weapons fall off the map. All the prevous weapons, as well as the P-90, the AK47/101's the M16/G36/L86A1/M4/Fn2000/SCAR-L, RPK/SAW M24/L96A1/G3 and a whatever else I've forgotten will be stopped.

There is some debate about the RPK and the SVD being stopped. Those rounds are slightly more powerful than the others, and could possibly punch through.

The M2 mounted on the Humvee's and the Tanks and the Vodnik's Kord machineguns will chew through everything.

But basically IMHO it's a waste of time. It is just an excuse to limit some classes running ability.

Adding in the REAL effect of armour would require them to model the real effects of gunfire. While your chest might be 100%, if I plant a 7.62x39mm burst into your hip, you are going down. If they put one thing in they'll have to put another in as well. Side shots will be more damaging as the plates only cover chest and back.

Personally i like the computer game version of the armoru that moderates some of the damage you take. Not even remotely realistic, but easier to play with.

The penetration should IMO, from good to weak.
                            M2, M95
                            SVD, PKM
                            G3, M24, L96
                            Type 88, QBZ-97, Type 95
                            M16, AK101, G36E, MG36, G36C, SA80, SAW, and anything else chambered 5.56mm
                            AK47, RPK
                            AKU-74
                            All pistols and SMGs
                            Shotguns

Well, P90 and MP7 should be exceptions of the SMG. We've been told that 4.6mm and 5.7mm can beat armor like cutting into cheese. But I don't know how good they really are.

This is essentially what BF2 body armor does. Torso damage from most bullet weapons is simply reduced by 34%. (Shotguns are reduced 48% and .50cal and larger rounds are not affected.) Most notably for realism fans, explosion damage is not affected at all by BF2 body armor.
