    Re: TVing Jets

    the easiest is when you are solo, often you will get those who slow down quite a bit or "hanglide" to shoot at the chopper. usually they shoot at you with missiles and pass (i then spot them and kinda follow their path through the map) then turn and slow down to make a run at you. this is the perfect time to shoot them although you have to have the jet almost dead center in the tv window to shoot (since you have very little time to readjust it). of the jets ive tv'ed, most were head on shots (i try to aim at the point of the nose cone or slightly under because as someone else said, you go right through the cockpit for some reason)

      Re: TVing Jets

      The best time (for me) is the second-pass, if you skilled enough the first jet pass doesn't cause big damage to you: it's just the first gun shots, then you figure impacts and you can avoid the rest + release flares for the missile; then jet then will try a second pass, follow him on the map and rotate your heli nose to follow his route hovering, at a certain point he will come directly in front of you with slow speed, he start to fire at you again with gun, at this point it's all cold blood: do not move, it's your evaluation how many impacts you may still support, give to your gunner a perfect TV view and he must wait for the right time (the jet is enough "near") in the meantime release flares when the jet locks you for missles... at that point the jet pilots doesn't have enough time to avoid your gunner TV missle.

      It's pretty easy when:

      a) You're a good (fair) heli pilot;
      b) Your gunner already know what you are going to do and be prepared (voice chat help alot here);
      c) Your gunner is a good (fair) gunner;
      d) The jet pilot feels so SUPERIOR, so he doesn't get scared for a low speed second pass.

      It's damn hard when:

      a) You're not so good, then the jet made you "red" at first pass with gun, and with a second pass you die fast enough to not do anything;
      b) You're on a public server with wannabe gunner: and he start to shoot at the jet while he's turning (gives no time for a second TV missle when he's back);
      c) Your gunner has no idea of what you're doing, and star to fire at jest with his chairgun!
      d) Your gunner doesn't know how to pilot the TV missle! He just fire it (if you're lucky) and you must be lucky to have a straight impact.
      e) The jet pilot is smart enough to know your "tactic", then he doesn't do a second pass, or he attack you from a higher altitude waiting 15 seconds (then you'll loose him on the map).

      Have a good luck!

        Re: TVing Jets

        I find it easier to TV jets when I DO have a pilot, because you must have perfect timing; it's not like slower moving targets (you can correct the path easily). When I solo if I switch to the seat I must align the chopper first, and this becomes a problem since you are now a sitting duck and any decent pilot will cannon you to death.

        ARCTiC is right; but it's easy when ALL items are true, and hard when ANY of the items are true ;P

          Re: TVing Jets

          Ive fired TV missles at planes numerous times and never hit, the missiles are definately not fast enough to be fired at the rear end of a jet as the jets are much faster than the missile.

          So anyone that says they have hit a jet with a tv missile from behind is lying unless the jet was stationary! (hovering or on airfield)

            It depends on the speed of the plane; usually it's NOT faster than the missile. Also remember that pilots tend to slow down to engage the chopper.
            Yes, it's definitely possible to TV planes from behind.

            The biggest problem though is the RANGE of the missile, which was shortened to ~450m instead of 600+m. Several times I guided the missile towards a plane only to see it blowing 2m away.

              I killed two jets from behind in my video, you should watch it ^.^

                That was pretty sweet.

                Don't you love the lagging hitboxes in BF2 though? Wow.

                  TV'ing planes is challenging, but can be done.

                  Hitting/destroying planes with dumbfires seems to me to be the most humiliating to a jet pilot...

                    You wrong, beside the best tactic (best because it is easy) is the one mentioned in my previous post (waiting for a second pass and be prepared), there's a second tactic that requires some skill (pilot): when a jet engage you (with gun or missle lock), you need to know immediately where's coming from (impact colors would help), best is using external camera, smart camera management is something "advanced", most of "sunday" heli choppers usually uses the normal cam (with cockpit removed ofcoz), best ones constantly switch their view to have a large visual of the entiere field (enemy helicopter, planes searcing for easy targets), then he knows BEFORE where a jet is coming from.. at this point he's already prepared to avoid the jet gun, release flares, and move his nose toward the enemy jet path before it passes him (ginving your "***" :) ), as soon the jet passes you, your gunner have to fire and follow the plane.
                    This requires (again) skill and coordination, and the planes aren't faster than your TV missle, it's the short range tha "bad" part.. that's why you need to "move" fast.

                    And it gives to the heli crew great satisfaction... after watching a jet whoring around, kill it with a TV missle... then he will spend the rest of the round hunting you (because of his flames-inside), then kill him again and possibly again! And the story finishes with a "disconnected"!
                    Unfortunately isn't ever so easy, jet still have big adavantage, even if you're the best pilot flying with the best gunner around... but with some lucky.

                            Yeah I know, you see how far the missile went past the jet before it exploded. I thought the 1st time I watched it in slo mo I missed the jet. :laugh: You see the small correction I made just before the missile got to the jet, I think without that small correction it would have missed the jet, because I hit it from underneath by the looks of it.

                                Coming from a jet whore, I kinda feel bad for you helo guys sometimes trying to engage me when I strafe you. If the pilot you are trying to tv is in any how competent, your wasting your time and will die. first things first:

                                #1 - 4 out 5 strafe passes I will kill you in the first pass with out warning you with a missle lock.

                                #2 - yes I will follow up with a second pass to finish you off from the side with out a lock.

                                #3- My preffered tactic when I dont have time to set up a good attack run is to come down on you with a missle lock at the last minute, the missle almost always hit when fired from a downward angle on attack helos.

                                If you dont believe me and want to put theory into practice, by all means, come to the ||3rb||ranked server and try to tv me out of the air, I will warn you though, your thrashing will be a thorough, painfull and fruitless one.

                                the best way to take out aircraft is with other aircraft IMHO that is my purpose when in a jet, second is kill the helos. Dont squander your teams rotary assett by trying to shoot down jets, kill the tanks, let me kill the jets thats what I'm there for.
