It's very difficult. I try to hit them from the side because there is more surface area on the side of the plane. I've only managed to pull it off once or twice though.
I've had much more success getting kills and assists by using the cannon than I have using the TV-M on jets. If you're in the havoc then of course you can obliterate or eject the pilot of a jet that's coming straight towards you. No need to roll the DICE and see if your missile will be on target.
I find that it's apparently easier to TV jets coming towards you, but most of these shots will magically go through the plane. When you hit them from behind this is less likely to happen.
TV-ing jets in a non-parallel trajectory is harder because usually the TV-M ends before you can reach the thing, or the missile can't turn sharp enough.
I also find it easier to hit a jet heading towards you because when they are flying away, they could be heading off in any trajectory and rarely keep on going straight. When they come around for another straife or AA missile shot, what pilot doesnt fly directly at your chopper? Given the time to lock on, most jets come at you straight and dont expect to have a TV come back at em.
Getting the missile to actually explode though is another story. I've seen an awful lot of helmets pass thru the TV screen without contact. I aim low and pull up as it seems they pass thru the canopy pretty easily.

Last week I took out an F35B flying at full speed and a cobra at the same time with 1 TVGM. The cobra was in front of me but then I saw the F35B coming at right angles and mid flight I changed my mind to try and hit the jet instead of the heli. By the time the TVGM reached the jet, the jet was directly underneath the heli and the explosion from me hitting the jet blew the heli as well. I had to download the BR to find out what happened because I only expected to kill the jet, well I hoped I would but it also said <<R2>>Capt.HKS [F35B] someunluckySOB

Yeah it was difficult for me but someone on hear posted where to change the mouse senstivity for the co-pilot. Its in land controls same as the tank and when I lowered it I was nailing stuff like all over the place it has made a huge difference for me.
