Interesting Game Crash, Help Please.

This has happened ever since I got my new PC, its a homemade one my father built, anyway I installed BF2, DoW, WoW, Rangers 2, CoV, and Oblivion. Now out of those only Rangrs 2, CoV, and Oblivion work without any problems. With BF2, DoW, and WoW the problem is exactly the same. The game will freeze(with DoW i can play around 11 minutes, BF2 i can only navigate the menus, and in WoW it freezes right when I start it)and the sound will begin to skip and stutter with high pitched tones and screeches. So I try and ctr; alt del out of it but it seems the keyboard has stopped working, when I hit caps the light doesn't turn on so I have to restart. So that pretty much sums up my problem. I have every driver I need and every patch that I need.

I should also mention that i thought it was the AMD dual core so I went out and bouight a single core. Well that didn't fix anything.

Look in event viewer and see if there are any outstanding errors.

It doesn't look like anything is out of the ordinary but of course I don't precisley what to look for.

The big red and white X signs would be a good thing to look for. Look in the system folder in Event Viewer.

Well there are a number of those and the source is "nview_info" and one says "application hang" and tehre are 12 of those over the course of 2 minutes, and based on the frequency its whenever I tried to start the games.

Try disabling the Nvidia Nview Desktop Manager, see if that helps at all.

FootBeef, try to lower your refresh rate to 60Hz, and disable any refresh lock software, there maybe some in your video driver settings... 1280 x 1024 change it to 1024x768 cause the game may simple not support that resolution...

The game supports 1280x1024 just fine.

hmmm,

I'd say overheating, next time it happens, after restart, go into the BIOS and check the temperature of the CPU, if its over 60 degrees, ask your dad (if you don't wanna) to re-seat the processor and apply more thermal compund evenly over the processor before putting on the heatsink and fan.

if that doesn't solve it or isn't the problem, check the temp on your GPU (graphics card temp), you can do that by right clicking on desktop -> settings -> advanced....in there somewhere in the nvidia settings and stuff.

could also be faulty RAM/hard drive (unlikely though). from your dxdiag i see you have 3GB of RAM. i presume its pc3200 and and 3 x 1gb sticks. i can say now that your RAM is only running in single channel mode, not dual channel, so its only running at 200Mhz instead of the proper 400Mhz. with DDR memory, you have to twin/pair the DIMM's so if you have 3 x 1gb sticks, you'd have the first 2x 1gb paired and the 3rd unpaired (as in 3 out of 4 slots full on the motherboard). because the 3rd one isn't paired with a 4th, it will only run in single channel mode and make the rest of the RAM only run in single channel, not dual channel, you'd need to either add another 1 x 1gb or take out 1 x 1 gb stick. THIS ISNT YOUR CURRENT PROBLEM but it will affect performance, 2gb @ 400mhz is better than 3gb @ 200mhx...trust me im a technicain anyway, good luck, pm me if your still having trouble.

If your a technician then you should know that Dual Channel doesn't affect the actual speed in Mhz.

Dual channel only affects the size of the memory interface, (64bit vs 128bit).

That sounds very normal, actually quite good.
Are you sure you've got the latest drivers? Have you tried updating your BIOS software?

I never really kow where to get the correct drivers. I download some here and there but I always second guess myself on whats right and wahts wrong, so what are some places I should check out to get drivers?

There is a very good freeware program called EVEREST. Search for it on Google and download it, it will tell you EVERYTHING there is to know about your computer, where to get drivers and firmware and stuff.
Your card is an Nvidia 7800GTX card right? Go to nvidias homepage and get the latest official drivers from there instead of 3rd party sites which not always are reliable...
