This is my AA tip and tricks.

For the essex AA this is what I suggest.

"For the carrier AA:

A) there are TWO of them on most maps, use them in tanddem, and the carrier is practicly impervious to planes, unless there are 2 uber pilots, and take out both in one sweep.

B) when a plane is comming at you, don't bother with the missles, unless you want to give em a scare, but mostly its a waste, save them for if you survive and launch them as the plane flys away. rely on your gun when a plane is comming at you (for choppers, just unload everything as soon as you see it, just save some missles), and KEEP IT WARMED UP. you have a couples seconds before the planes guns rips through you, however, your guns are stronger, so if you pick it up on targeting, or its guns give away it's position, you can take it out of the sky easily enough, or atleast make it break it's attack, which means it might be vulnerable to your missles. If you warm up your guns once you see it, you might as well get out of the AA, save your team a ticket.

C) if your a engie, and the AA has been destoryed, DO NOT REPAIR IT back, wait for it to respawn, since it comes back at full health it's much better. Bringing it back at a touch of health, means that if a plane comes by and nicks it, with you beside it, you'll die easily enough, heck even a AT, or APC missle round can take it out at that point. If it's low on armour, like in the red, repair it, but try to get someone decent at AA, to man it for the short time your repairing. Hopefully they are nice enough to give it back."


The guns SEEM weak because no one keeps them warmed up, if it's warmed up when a plane comes into view/range (because it can shoot beyond missle lock range) you can take out a plane before it takes you out, however actually catching a plane before or right at, takes alot of scanning the skies, or it being spotting, or plain luck.

If ANYTHING... they need to make that **** even MORE powerful, and give it more range, with more missles..

you will rape a base that has pathetic defense, where they have to take out a couple of AA turrets, which come back seconds later.

mec and china should have HUGE MOFO AA thingies at their bases imo :)

Against a moderiately good pilot, the USS Essex AA gun in a death trap. A good pilot will come at random directions. Their guns can hit you before you even see them.

The 8 missles are nice, but its not going to help you because you're already dead because they dropped their flares on the way in.

What the USS Essex AA gun needs is a 400m Ground-to-Air radar. This radar would only be viewable while inside the AA gun and basically give you a UAV centered on the ship. The UAV, however, would only allow you to see air targets (helicopters/jets), not infantry or ground vehicles.





Someone correct me, but do you get a square in your reticle outside of fog range (350m), in jets?

I have shot down tons of planes from the Essex using both the missles and the main gun. The best strategy that I have found is if they are flying low and headed straight for the Essex, aim slightly above and ahead of the cockpit and you can take them out pretty easy. Don't fire the rockets at them until you can see the rear of the jet. If you fire at the front you will miss almost everytime.

Actually no, the essex does not show up as a square.


Cars, tanks, and AA show up as squares.

Or boats that do the "wheelie" thing...:laugh:

The Essex needs it's ranged beefed up, I think, many a times I've been obliterated by the J10's cannons way before I can see them, and yet the J10's bombing mode shows us plump little squares from a mile away.

i always wait for the flares to run out first then shoot the remaining missiles, after all, the essex has 8.... evasive? nah, 8 is much more than enough to shoot a jet down, unless it shoot me first.. :P

Maybe a random missile hit because it happens to me alot. I'll be flting and look behind and see nothing suddenly there's a lock on me look behind again and start doing evasive manouvers and 1 missile will jsut come out of nowhere and either miss or hit.

Is anyone botherd about the range of the US Essex, its pathetic, i got past south base and it still shot me down with a missle lock. if there's one thing they need to change its that decrease the range.

actually gunna have to bring summat to peoples attention that ive just rememberd, when i wa tryin to shoot the commander outta the essex he shot me down using only the cannon no missles and i had a full bar of life on the jet so the cannon aint that weak
