      Re: Calling all snipers...

I really didn't want to jump in this argument... but I feel I should say that a good sniper will prioritize his targets. If there's a medic in the squad, he's the first to get dropped. Anyone who wants to run and grab the kit will get dropped too. It's quite simple.
I used to play sniper quite often. I had no problem capping flags, and defending flags. Grant it, I'm not an all-star, and I stopped playing for about 6 months, but snipers can be effective teammates. I think the overwhelming number of ****ty snipers give the class a bad rap.

:edit: Oh, and any sniper who sits in one spot is a bad sniper. Sitting on top of a building for a round is lazy, unproductive, and does not help the team. Snipers should shoot and move, shoot and move.

        Re: Calling all snipers...

How exactly is CQC a sniper's "strong point"? Good luck sniping someone who's circle-strafing you from 5 feet away. Unless you use the pistol, in which case EVERY class gets a pistol, so that wouldn't be sniper-exclusive. Or are you talking about rushing into a firefight tossing claymores?

And let me make sure I understand you correctly - you mean to suggest that there are snipers you've seen that could single-handedly take out a squad of 6 people simply using the sniper rifle? And most of the medics I've seen (myself included) do anything BUT stand still when they revive. Usually I walk over the target while crouching and zap 'on the run'.

And like $kelet0r mentioned, snipers have earned a lot of negativity from the BF community, but that shouldn't stop you from playing the class if you enjoy it. But I wouldn't advise suggesting that you could go around servers and succeed as an entire team of snipers, either.

I understand. I just don't feel it's that great of a combination. Now, an all-medic team, or an all-AT squad, those are some damn interesting squads not meant to be messed with. :)

Snipers can be deadly, but as skeletor said, pick and choose the kit YOU want to play with, who cares what we all think.

I'd like all the snipers to place their claymores in front of my tank (that would make 12 claymores and see how much damage they would make to it).

Lemme know when you find out! :)

@ Ranger: Yeah but mainly VOIP in game...

@ skeletor: thanks for sticking up for me vaguely :)

@ wolfgang: come on man, open your eyes for one second as to what support a sniper can support, you say we do no teamwork?! imagine how many of you would be picked off if we didn't have ur back and take out the opposition snipers?! and others camping huh, you would be screwed as you would have no back up. I can think of countless times I have taken out a guy putting C4 on a tank or blowing the commander assets, we put our necks on the line to save your asses and you just flame us, thats low man.

              Re: Calling all snipers...

Don't forget the good old peppering the Tank with nades and I've seen Tanks get taken out with enough of them. A good sniper is a rounded player, along the lines of some one that can play any kit with keeping in mind he is a scout and he picks and chooses his battles (Medic makes a great scout kit), he can dosn't capture flags on the front line, but if there is one undefented he will take it (thats what I normally save my claymores for unless things get hairy.

VOIP is bad cause I'm using the front input on my Sound card and BF2 won't reconize that, but if there are some using TeamSpeak its cool.

If you don't believe that a team of snipers could win a match, take wake as an example... As the underdog, snipers are PLA, if you get on to the island then seriously you are quite talented...

                    Re: Calling all snipers...

Again, rather than being a sniper, go medic and revive me instead. That way, once we get to the (almost certainly) claymore-littered flag, you will still be useful for both healing/reviving, CQC, and flag-capping, whereas if you were a sniper you would just be able to watch the squad get killed from a distance.

Oh, and 'put our necks on the line'? As opposed to, say, an Assault trooper who goes headlong into enemy territory to try to capture an enemy's flag? Or a support guy lying down spraying an alleyway with an RPK-74 so that no enemies dare come near? They don't put their necks on the line, too? Or how about those AT guys that have to try to find ways to flank those huge vehicles that are destroying everything in sight?

Taken out a guy putting C4 on a tank? I've done that with an M16, just before supporting the tank in capping the flag.

And I've played this game a great deal, and the times that we've been capped out of the game and the enemy team is hunting down the last remaining player on our side, take a wild guess as to which class that soldier is. You guessed it - sniper. Oblivious to the fact that the flags are all gone, just waiting for someone to 'support' with his sniper rifle, only there are no more people to support because they all died while trying to take flags and win the game while the sniper sat there 'supporting' them. You want to be a good support to a squad? Go AT so when a tank or APC comes along you aren't completely hosed. Go medic so you can heal and revive your squad. Go engineer so you can fix your squad's armour. I guarantee the amount of times you've 'supported' your team by sniping that guy C4ing a tank would be far outweighed by the amount of times you could have helped them by doing something else. Snipers have their uses, yes, but teamwork is not what they're known for. I'm not saying all snipers suck, because I do know quite a few people who go sniper and are good at it, but even they'd be willing to admit sniper's the least teamwork-oriented class in the game.

                    Edit:

Uh, since when is the PLA the underdog on Wake? Are you sure you're playing the same BF2 as I am?

Yes, there are certain snipers that do that but I can think of a few that do that and could wipe out a whole squad by doing it. You guys dont seem to appreciate what a big role a sniper can play in a squad.

this is a pretty funny post. Snipers contribute nothing to a squad. At best they kill a lot of infantry at a point and provide some defence at a flag with the (horrendously unbalanced and annoying) claymores (which should take 5 seconds to set up, be destroyable by grenades, and tk... but that would make snipers useless, right?!).

I thank god if I don't have a sniper in my squad. Taking up a perfectly good spot in the squad. Would rather have any class but sniper in my squad. I have NEVER said, "boy, thank god I have a sniper in my squad!", but I've said it MANY times for medics, support, assault (on occasion), spec ops (on a few occasions), anti-tank, and engineer, but NEVER sniper.

I like to think of sniper as the entitlement class. The class that everyone that thinks kills should be handed to them plays. The class that attracts the people who come on forums and say things like, "omg, it should be 1 shot kill to the foot!" and "snipers should be invisible to everything!!" and "If you hit the tank in a good spot, it should kill the driver, LOLZ!" or the people that b*tched about accuracy and claymores and have turned it into an overpowered class.

Yah, sneaking to a roof top and waiting to get shot or shoot at something that moves on the other side of the map all game is TONS of fun!

                      bah.

I dont see why everybody is against snipers ;s sniping takes skills, hitting somebody on the head in movement and jumping is goddamn hard

Only a few guys stand doing nothing so u can hit them in the head easily

There are other classes on a higher lvl of cheapness

You are completely missing the point, if a sniper plays well then he can be one of the most useful on the team, he will stop the medic's from reviving the enemy he will take out that person mowing you down with his rpk-74 by using tactics and flanking round, do you guys ever think of tactics?! No, you just go route 1 and complain when you get shot that a medic didn't revive u and then blame whatever u hate most, which happens to be snipers, whats the betting you're only bashing snipers because you don't understand the kit and/or are really bad at it?!

Make the sniper rifles shoot bunny rabbits. I've been saying it for months, it would make the game much more interesting, especialy if there was an entire team of snipers. I mean, who wouldn't want to see an entire team shooting bunnies instead of bullets, and once they reach their targets they just start gnawing at their necks (think Monty Python)

What the hell is that matter with you all, this is a sand box game, play it how you want to. If you enjoy sniping, then snipe, if you enjoy running arround like a counter strike clown in karkand, then run arround like a counterstrike clown in karkand. We are doing something we enjoy and thats what makes the differnce. I've stayed behind and covered the command assets before and had the ppl who I was killing waste valuable resources comming after me as a resolt. Its a great feeling to see how far away you can make a kill.

Your saying, great the Pistol dosn't make you good in CQC because everyone has it, how may ppl bother to use it, they really don't realize how good a weapon it is. Sure its not gonna help if a whole squad is on your tail, but against 1 to 2 guys I can get away breathing. Most of you ppl are on the damn front line, if it wasn't for the random [l96a1] popping up, you'd be loosing alot more flags on your tail.
