DICE and EA seem to acknowledge the issues and they do seem to be widespread. Here's hoping their radical move to releasing a public beta can improve the next patch to a point where it's near perfect, as a game this popular should be a year from release.

I don't get crash troubles at all and by Christ I've had my fair share of 'error: 20x3445f what? oh to be honest I just can't be bothered' but 1.3 works smoothly for me. I still have fun playing this game and will do for many months to come.

Any suggestions for a better game than BF2 out there? I went and bought the new Hitman to pass time with since my computer keeps crashing. Nice 42" widescreen plazma, a massive couch, PS2 THAT DOESN'T FAULT, no pesky online Noobs. I'm sorted for now. Awaiting PS3.
I'll play again next time it starts to run longer than click Join game. Else.. Yeah I really don't have a choice on the playing or not matter

If you like the infantry aspects of BF2 = Day of Defeat:Source. Flags to cap, runs well, looks nice, and requires working closely with a team if you don't want to get killed all the time.
If you like the vehicle aspects of BF2 = BF1942 or the mod "Desert Combat". They're stable, fast, just as fun as BF2, more maps, and even a low end gaming machine can run them pretty well.

A patch is usually an update to a game (or any other type of software) that proportedly fixes bugs, adds features/maps, and generally attempts to improve the game its for. In the case of the lastest patch for BF2 (1.3), its a steaming pile of dog excrement, installed at your own peril.

To download, just type "BF2 1.3 patch download" in google, then download and install. If it works for you, consider yourself lucky.

Public beta testing of it is to occur next month sometime, so possibly another patch before August.

There's going to be a new map as well. All is documented on the BF2 main website at EA.com (and on this forum as well)

someone in another post told me you can't get stats without it so i think i'll take the risk but thanks for the explanation and warning.

Don't listen to them, you get stats if you are playing on a ranked server, not just because you have the latest patch.

There have been 5 patches (maybe more, I forget), but the server has to be running the same version patch as yours. So if you find the latest patch runs like a dog for you, try an older version, there are still ranked servers around for older patches that you can still get points and ranks on.

In the tick boxes choose same version. Try playing online without patching to get a feel for all the maps first. Month or so might be a good idea
