Re: BF2's Netcoding is perfect! (video )
Oh man! I wish I'd had some video footage or recorder file from my time on wake the other night. I had this PERFECT example of Bf2 netcode at it's best, but like all practises that happen quickly over a few seconds just once, I could actually repeat this over and over.
So here's my story, map is wake as I said. The USMC had caped a flag off the coast nearest their rib spawn place. My team trying to cap it back, and me in the chopper with my gunner. Something bad happened and I'm forced to bail... landed behind their front line.
Now just imagine seeing a large number of enemies with their backs turned away.
I took care of about 3 with my SA80 but the sniper on the grass who was completely oblivious was asking to be knifed.
My combat style is very fluent being a X-UT2004 player and I never just sit still and attack with a melee weapon. I run over, crouch, stab, smoke, *keeps running*
He DOESN'T DIE...
I run over again (with a slight panic) crouch, stab, smoke, *keeps running* DOESN'T DIE, I fear I'm dead now he's heard me *looks back* No, he hasn't. I run over him stabbing, his head smokes as I catch him, and run on, doesn’t die... :hmm:
By now you can probably just guess that even though my ping was 29 and his was 50, that where I was stabbing was happening a few seconds later in a different position.
But now read on... I stop, crouch a few feet away from him and stab the air... nothing, no death. I stab the air again, then move over to him, and look at his head... He dies about a whole second later! with no smoke, and a [knife] kill message.
It won't be funny reading it, but it sure as hell was scary running backwards and forwards over his body with a knife expecting the kill and moving on... only I had got delayed by the perfect netcode which is BF2.

its usually cause i have a 20ms ping and some twit has 100ms ping, you dive behind a wall and a second later you get shot by him... its even worse if they have a higher ping!!!
